The Shadow Conclave

Theme Expanded Info Contracts Sign-ups Missions

Self-proclaimed arbiters of peace, the Shadow Conclave is a reclusive organization, rarely stepping forth from the shadows other than when duty bids them.

Eons ago, the Conclave at its core strove to create a balance between the greater powers that ruled the Galaxy. Over the years, especially with defeat of the Sith Empire 100 years ago, the Conclave dwindled in power and influence until they were merely a whisper of memory. Today, there are those who still hold to the ideals of the past, but there are others that take up the Mantle with their own interests in mind.

The more idealistic of the Shadow Conclave don’t believe that any of the major factions are outright evil, but no single organization should be allowed to gain complete control over the Galaxy. While not above aligning themselves with any of these factions for mutual interests, they hold no permanent ties to any. It is not uncommon to see the Conclave working with any of the factions to hinder the destructive efforts of the others. Aside from assembling bases of operations, ‘acquiring’ resources, or interfering with the other factions, the Shadow Conclave also runs a contract system, where other factions and people may hire members of the Conclave to hunt down specific targets for a large fee.

Stationed across the galaxy are multiple expertly hidden safehouses, listening posts, and residences. The Shadow Conclave does not claim governance over the planets on which these bases are located, but instead utilize them primarily as pit-stops for their agents as they travel abroad. While many of these stations are fairly small in size, some of them are great fortress-monasteries, standing strong and prepared to defend the Conclave’s numbers should the need arise. Though these bases are well-kept and well-defended by their residents, the main force of the Conclave is nomadic, drifting across the galaxy and intervening whenever they please.

When adherents of the Conclave don their armour for a mission, referred to traditionally as “taking up the Mantle”, they must not wear any kind of identifying marks or insignia. It is also highly recommended that members utilize darker armour shades and ample amounts of Scatterweave to prevent detection.

The Umbral Creed

Thou shalt not intentionally harm, wrong, betray, or deceive thy brother or sister; this is the highest offense and is punishable by death.

When thou takest up the Mantle to do thine duty, never reveal thine identity. Protect it as thou wouldst protect thy life.

Ignore not the power that knowledge wields.

The Force, be it Light or Dark, is an instrument of thine will. Use and respect it accordingly.

The falsification of a Marked kill brings the greatest dishonour upon both the Conclave and thyself. This is punishable by death.

Follow the Conclave’s traditions; they are most sacred and are the foundation of our order.

Above all, strive to preserve the balance. Cause not needless strife, but do not leave the powers that be unhindered.

Intent

The Shadow Conclave provides an entirely new kind of faction to the table, with some themes and elements that have not been implemented before. A great deal of the faction’s interactions are fluid and rely primarily on the activity of the main factions, though there will be internal missions as well. As such, it will allow for many different stories, plots, and interactions both amidst the faction and with the other main factions.

Ultimately, the Conclave functions around the theme of stealth. Another primary underlying theme is a semi-cultist set of traditions, which serve to keep the faction unified despite the difference in ideology shared between its members. While some can be idealistic and follow the beliefs that the Conclave held eons ago, others may not, simply working among them for their own personal gain and self interests. The faction also hoards as much information as possible, and in some cases will deem certain knowledge to be too important or dangerous for others to know, and will often go about stealing holocrons, artifacts, and information from other factions. The Conclave isn’t going to be focused on territorial gain, and will have comparatively much fewer assets than Main Factions and other Independent Factions. The faction will instead rely primarily on the assets of its members and their individual strength. In addition to the various ranks within the faction, it will also include a special title or achievement system to provide interest, motivation, and dedication.

The Shadow Conclave also utilizes a unique contract system that hasn’t been used yet in Dawn of the Republic. This differs from a normal bounty board in that only members of the Conclave are able to take on these contracts to attempt assassinating an NPC or PC. Other factions and PCs may approach the Deacon (Conclave NPC), who resides on Denon, to sign the hit contract for the Shadow Conclave to fulfill. Other factions and players that wish to form a contract may do so here.

Due to its secretiveness and the professionalism of its members, it is nigh impossible ICly to contact the faction outside of the Deacon. He refuses any discussion aside from his duty in peddling the Shadow Conclave’s elite services. With this in mind, ICly new members only join by having the Shadow Conclave reach out to them even though members still sign up OOCly on the sign-up board.

@Dmitri any way you could take a look over this, since it's been posted for nearly a month? We have a lot of people wanting to get going with the faction.

An error on my part. When I skimmed this a week ago, I thought there was less than 5. I've looked it over earlier, and gave it another read now, and neither time did I find any issues with it. Thank you for bringing it to my attention that you guys actually did have 5. If a petitioning faction ever reaches the membership required, don't be afraid to notify me. I don't always notice when it occurs as my general first glance tends to focus on content.

Approved.

I gotta say @Shalken I think I'm gonna make a character for this faction just because of the Dark Souls references lol. I saw that to join a character needs to be approached ICC. Would be ok with me saying my character was already in the faction due to parentage? If not that's cool I'll write around that.

Glad to see you're interested! already being in the faction from parentage is fine.

Alright people, it's time for our first newsletter!

We've kicked off our first couple of missions, which are going along smoothly enough. Our member list has grown slowly and steadily, and we couldn't have gotten this far without you guys. I've got a couple more missions in the works, and I should have them posted fairly soon. I do admit, I've been putting off some of my forum duties for some time now, but I've kicked myself into gear and I'm ready to dedicate more time back into it.

I do realize that a lot of aspects of the faction are still rather ambiguous (namely the ranking system and the faction's various rituals), and I definitely need to hash them out. When I do get around to posting them, they will go up on our Expanded Info page, which I highly recommend you guys check out anyway.

Another note about our missions, and about the faction in general, my ultimate goal is to push for story above all else. Missions might take a little longer to produce, but that's primarily because I want to pack in as many details into them as possible - especially including elements from our characters' backgrounds. If any of you guys have ideas about cool stories and plots, please do not hesitate to bring them up to me. Since we aren't going to be interested in capturing squares, our focus is going to be building and expanding on our individual characters' stories and the depth of the faction as a whole. That's actually the reason why I started the Conclave off with not much in the way of backstory - starting off with a bunch of assets and things is fun and all, but slowly building it up overtime is more fun, enjoyable, and satisfying.

Another announcement I'd like to make is to welcome @Vosrik on officially as our AFL! Feel free to speak to him about any official Conclave matters.

One final note, I highly recommend to you all to 'watch' both this thread and the mission signup threads, as I will be posting updates in here as well as updates about new mission packs in the other thread. While I will still be posting member tags, better safe than sorry. Who doesn't like more alerts, anyway? ;P

That's all for now, and best of luck to you all!

Just another small update everyone, we're gonna wait until they post the new battle format for the timeskip before we push out some missions and goals for the faction. Stay tuned!

I've said this to everyone on Skype but I thought I might as well make it official.

It pains me greatly to write this, but due to a dramatic decrease in my and @Vosrik's free time, we are no longer able to lead the Shadow Conclave as we should. In addition, I've realized the faction is extremely 'niche' and has a wild mixture of various themes that not many people on a Star Wars forum would typically play. While this allows for a small tight-knit group of roleplayers, we've been borderline inactive for a very long time. As such, I've decided to entirely disband the faction, and I intend to write up a final lore article detailing the Conclave's history and timeline.

@Darasuum, @Cainhurst Crow, and @StratusGold, thanks for sticking around until the end. My deepest apologies to everyone else I knew was interested in joining. Bonfire's light guide you all.

@Dmitri, please archive the Shadow Conclave.
