Open to all NR characters and elected NPC's

The speaker looked to his left, the seat of the Supreme Chancellor sat empty, as it had since Emil Ro had met his untimely demise. It was a constant reminder that he was the current leader of the New Republic but would one day be replaced by someone taking that seat. He had thought of running himself, but Xerxes and Hedarial had most of the Senate between the pair of them. Running against them was folly, so he had instead chosen to spend the last month whilst the two ran, buttering both up hoping to keep his seat once the dust settled in this great race.

Standing up he took one last glance at the empty seat before clearing his throat. Dozens of Holocams floated around the central spire where he stood, all glued to his face. “Ladies and Gentleman of the New Republic, Esteemed Senators.” He began holding his arms out to all that assembled in the chamber that day. “Today is a monumental day for us all. After the tragic death of Supreme Chancellor Emil Ro, we have gathered here today, to honour his legacy of a strong and united Republic by electing his successor.”

“You have heard both of our candidates speak, both have told us their dreams and desires for the future of our Republic. It is now down for you, my fellow honourable Senators to elect who will lead us into the future. Senator Raycom Hedarial of Byss or Senator Alexander Xerxes of Hynesita. Come forth and cast your vote, let us decide the future of our Great Republic!”

Jin had entered the Senate Rotunda with little fanfare. He arrived quietly, keen to avoid the invasive questions of journalists and reporters huddled outside. He didn’t wear anything too lavish—just a traditional embroidered jacket, stylishly baggy pants caught around the ankles, and a pair of crystal-shaped earrings that shivered against his neck like shards of ice. This was no extravagant party or social event. It was merely an assembly that required his vote and nothing more.

Still, a small retinue of guards accompanied him through the main foyer, among them Fleet Admiral Ceris Odrosess. As a major military contractor, Jin had carved up a tidy circle of friends among the Republic Navy, and Ceris had been a useful ally in the past year, if not a bit eccentric. Her presence at today’s session was purely symbolic, but he at least wanted to have her around. As long as it helped inflate his ego and made his rivals from Kuat look weak, why the hell not?

Of course, he’d have to keep an eye out for her, too. He hadn’t quite forgotten the last time she’d attended a Senate assembly.

Ceris,” he told the young woman once they’d reached his pod, understanding it would be best to keep her at his side. “Please, as tempting as it might be, let’s not choke anyone out during today’s proceedings. No matter how the election goes.” He didn’t know who she supported, whether Senator Xerxes or Hedarial, but he also didn’t care as long as she didn’t do anything rash. Jin already had a candidate in mind. He wouldn’t be swayed otherwise.

He had a pledge to uphold, after all.

So, when the Speaker had finished... speaking... and the Senate had fallen into orderly silence, Jin was among the first to voice his thoughts. With a smile that could charm a rattlesnake, he leaned against his mic and voted in favor of the man who’d promised him a trading empire. The man who would fill Fondor’s coffers.

I vote in favor of Senator Xerxes of Hynestia,” he said, “for Supreme Chancellor of the Republic.” Then he leaned back, relaxed into his seat beside Ceris, and watched the show unfold.

Politics was really not a thing for Ceris. Sure it was fun the last time she attended something like this, but that's only because of her old geezer of a boss is a fool. Wearing a simple embroidered blouse and chestnut colored skirt, she was invited by her good ol' friend Jin. Invited meaning begged to come.

"Trust me you're the last person I want to touch, I'm trying to keep my hands clean you know? I don't know what you and Venka do in your spare time. Also, while I'm glad you saw me fit to play the attractive woman that follows you around to make you seem cool, don't send me two-hundred plus messages saying 'pretty pls'." Ceris wondered how Venka, Jin's personal bodyguard and potential girl toy, was feeling. She couldn't help but grin at the thought of Venka losing her mind knowing that Ceris was taking her place.

Ceris leaned back in her seat all willy-nilly completely drowning out whatever the speaker was saying. "God I wish I could smoke in here." The freshly promoted Fleet Admiral has also recently become a nicotine addict. She recalled her early days as a captain, disgusted at the smell of cigarettes that Brum frequently smoked. "Maybe I should get one of those weird electronic flavored ones the kids walk around with these days..." Ceris regained her focus as Jin put in his vote. "Xerses eh?" she commented as Jin sat back down. Ceris didn't really prefer either candidate, in her mind she probably could have been a better candidate. Taking a moment to think, Ceris started to notice something else. "Voted in favor of the more stern type. Ya know Jin I think I'm getting to know you better. You seem to like stern older men. The only difference between this one and the last is that this one is taller." Everyone knew about Jin's relationship with the late chancellor Emil. Jin is what the young kids now commonly refer to as a 'dick rider'.

A few pods to the left was Grand Admiral Brum. He stood up soon after to cast his vote "I vote for Senator Raycom." The old man hobbled back to his seat; he still seemed to be in rough shape.

The Senator from Empress Teta was a woman of few words. She rarely engaged in the cockfights of the Republic Seante, even under the previous Chancellor. This had its advantages. The media had its eyes on her during important votes like this. Because she rarely aired her thoughts openly for publicity, she was usually seen as a swing vote. And no one ever really knew which way she would vote until she did. On this, though, she doubted there would be anything to swing.

One candidate had campaigned voraciously. More, he was taking all the right stances to reverse the harmful policies of the previous administration. The Jedi were too incompetent to openly ally with. Or to even appear friendly with. The war they found themselves in was also not one the Republic ever belonged in in the first place. Emil Ro had wanted to flex Republic might, might he admittedly brought to the Republic, but what had it cost? More than a third of the systems the Republic once had fled to the Consortium.

No, Emil Ro's ways had been tried. Now, it was time for a new way. "Empress Teta votes in favor of Senator Xerxes of Hynestia, as well," she said. Short, plain, to the point. She sat back in her pod without another word.

The senator of Venjagga was not fond of Senator Alexander Xerxes of Hynesita's views. She was old, crippled, and had a hard time standing up, but she still had her wits.

It did appear that senator Xerxes was willing to take a backseat in the war, and allow the Sith Empire to grow into a size where the Republic wouldn't be able to defend against them in the future. She was very certain the Sith, like they have in the past, would make their move against the Republic eventually, no matter what peace treaty or agreement was put into place now.

It was also not her peoples stance, especially not after the tabloid that pled with world leaders to not allow the Sith to keep getting away with what they have. Senator Oplly had to listen to her people, respect history and respect the dead. The millions killed by the Sith. She simply could not vote for someone who'd, in her opinion, would ultimately lead to the downfall of the Republic.

She worried that he would still make it through and the republic would be doomed. Perhaps her world would not stay with the republic, though she chimed in with her own vote, "Venjagga votes for Senator Raycom."

"Hmm."

There was a lot for the esteemed Senator of Werma Lesser to think about in the days coming up to the election. Policies, where to stand, and which person between Xerses or Hedarial would cause the least amount of clean-up in a hundred years.

"Pootie, darling, please fetch me some nibbles! I want to be proper sated before I vote!"

It was important to make a decision worth more in the long run because it was likely he would be dealing with the policies of said Chancellor a hundred years from now. The Wermal lifespan was much less diminutive than their heights.

"Ah, thank you Pootie." The senator accepted the glass, then made his way into the chambers where the voting would commence. As he entered the room, he shoved a thick finger into the glass, coating it in a thick white substance as he twirled his finger around to scoop out more of it. His sallow skin squeaked against the surface of the cup, and the sudden force into the almost-solidified substance caused it to let out a wet squelch. He then shoved that finger right into his mouth hole, sucking it clean of the substance in one, powerful suck that most definitely came with some sound effects. In the quiet room, it was hardly ignorable.

"Ah, mayonnaise. I wonder who discovered that emulsifying an egg could make such a delicious and delectable snack? And what genius discovered that letting it age for fifty years could make it even better?"

"Mmhhgh." The Senator cleared his throat to rid it of the white sludge he'd shlurped off his finger moments ago before he continued. "I, Senator Pootimer Pootrae Pootson of Werma Lesser, do vote in favor of Senator Alexander Xerses of Hynestia for the Chancellorship of the New Republic."

War wouldn't be good for the wermals, or the galaxy.

Vaz stood on his hovering pram, having just finished his tea, he'd been here some time now and had been awaiting the speaker to begin the procession patiently, days before he'd already made up his mind who's platform best fit the needs of his people, and by extension the Republic's people. Although war was good for a great many things, inevitably the drain it would cause would be too great an expense.

Staring out amongst the other senators who's votes were cast one by one, Vaz prepared to take the stand himself, clearing his throat beforehand so as not to broadcast it amongst the whole of those in attendance.

Senator Vaz Du, of Kuat, I cast my vote in favor of Senator Xerxes, of Hynestia, for the office of Supreme Chancellor of the Republic.. Vaz stated calmly, before backing his hovering pram away from the broadcast microphone and settling back down.

It was all he needed to do, a small decision in comparison, but one that would ring about the Republic, hopefully bringing about peace and prosperity.

Bartholomew Gunthtertorn the Third was not a pleased man. All 4'9 of him was bristling with rage at having to vote at all between these two imbeciles. One was in hot waters the press not too long ago for calling the people of Denon 'unlucky' and causing protests, the other was some upstart he had never seen or heard of before. It made him want to kick them both in the shins. However, one of the idiots made a slightly bigger effort to campaign and Bartholomew wasn't too keen on getting his planet into conflict proactively.

"Vakkar votes for Senator Xerxes."

After the speaker sat there was a moment of quiet across the chamber. You could almost hear a pin drop as the Senator’s built up courage to be the first person to cast their vote. You didn’t want to be the first person to jump into the losers camp. Luckily one of the more Senior Senator’s Vaisra of Fondor voiced his opinion and gave his vote.

The Senate then finally burst into activity as worlds all across the New Republic began to place their votes. Although there were ample votes for both candidates it seemed that Senator Xerxes had the lead throughout the process. One of the final votes arrived from the Senator of Coruscant all but securing the election for Xerxes. There was still a few minutes left of voting, but the major blocks had voted now. It was only the independents left and all they would achieve is padding out numbers one way or another.

With their verbal votes also came electronic ones, these were counted by a computer system before the official vote was given to the speaker. Standing up from his chair, once again the hovering cameras swirled around him. “Honourable Senators, I thank you for your actions today. For with your help and support we have once again elected a head of this esteemed government to guide us into the future. Senator Hedarial of Byss has received ninety four votes, Senator Xerxes of Hynestia has received two hundred and thirty five votes.”

“Ladies and Gentleman of the New Republic, your new Supreme Chancellor of the Republic is Alexander Xerxes. We will welcome him and Senator Hedarial into the chamber, please be upstanding for both of these outstanding politicians.”
As the door’s would open to both Hynestia’s and Byss’ pods the speaker would begin clapping for both men, quickly followed by the rest of the gathered senators.

Alexander sat within the small waiting room before the Hynestian senatorial pod. People all around him paced the room, his chief aide was nervously chewing his fingernails in the corner. Even his brother, the King of Hynestia who had flown here to see his little brother's crowning achievement was nervous. “How are you not nervous right now?” He said to Alexander. “Because I am confident I will win.” He replied quickly to his brother. The older Hynestian raised his eyebrows at him. “And If I don’t there is nothing I can do about it now.” That seemed to quieten down his brother a little.

“Senator Vaisra has voted in favour of you, Alexander.” His Sister-In-Law said, her eyes glued to the Holo which was broadcasting the Senate Chamber. Alexander had kept the main Holo turned off, he didn’t need people jumping up and down cursing at each vote. “As has Senator Du.” “Well at least they both kept their word.”

As more votes came in the excitement in the room gathered, they could all see Alexander had the edge, it was now just down to the official count to confirm it. Standing he tried to straighten his suit, but was immediately brought into a crushing embrace by his brother. “Well done brother.” He said rather loudly into his ear. “Thank you. Now please stop squeezing all the air out of me.”

Let go of his embrace Alexander gave the older man a smile before finishing straightening his suit. He was just about ready when the speaker called both he and Hedarial back into the Senate Chamber. Taking a deep breath Alexander pulled on a bright smile and walked through the door into thunderous applause.
