DESCRIPTION
The TIE/AD starfighter, better known as the TIE Avenger and unofficially dubbed the "Bright" by pilots who fought it, is a highly sophisticated starfighter which was manufactured by Sienar Fleet Systems during the Galactic Civil War. The culmination of the long-running "TIE Advanced" program, the Avenger was the only model in the Advanced series to enter serial production, although by this point it was more or less surplus to requirements.

The TIE Avenger is a capable fighter; just under 10 meters in overall length, it is equipped with a class 1 hyperdrive, deflector screens, a total of 6 medium laser cannons and a quartet of 2-shot concussion missile launchers. Top speed is an impressive 115 MGLT, making it one of the fastest snubfighters of its era, coupled with excellent maneuverability. Even in the present day these craft are feared on the battlefield.

Unfortunately for the TIE/AD, by the time it reached production status its role had more or less been filled by the less conventional TIE/D "Defender", which itself had trouble fitting into Imperial starfighter doctrine. Due to its more conventional appearance, the type found some adherents over the Defender, with a number of Imperial aces requesting the Avenger specifically. As a result, although the Avenger saw even lower production numbers than the Defender, it had an outsized kill ratio in combat, leading to the notion that if the Avenger had been available in larger numbers it may have had an impact on the outcome of the Galactic Civil War. In actuality, by the time the Avenger was available, the momentum of the war had firmly turned against the Empire; some of the first Avengers in Imperial service fought in the delaying actions following Endor. Due to the deficit of qualified Imperial pilots, additional units would likely have been squandered.

In the present day, TIE Avengers are exceedingly rare. Those that still exist tend to be displayed in museums or are part of private collections.
