DESCRIPTION
The TIE/IT starbomber, formally known as the TIE Interdictor, informally as the TIE Heavy Bomber or the Penta, is a variation of the TIE family of starfighters originally developed by Sienar Fleet Systems. Derived from the lighter TIE/SA starbomber, the TIE/IT was the Empire's primary strategic bomber during the Galactic Civil War, and remains a feared weapons platform even in the present day.

The TIE Interdictor is a linear development from the original TIE Bomber, extrapolating from the older design's twin-pod configuration into a five-pod design. Capable of reaching 70 MGLT top speed, the TIE Interdictor is slightly slower than the TIE Bomber, but has a far superior payload capacity, consisting of twin bomb chutes capable of deploying up to 64 bombs of variable types from a quartet of internal magazines, as well as 4 versatile launchers which can alternately equip either 8 concussion missiles or 4 larger torpedoes each. In its heyday, this payload was enough to level most targets a TIE Interdictor would be sent against.

Although not equipped with any useful defensive armament, the TIE/IT does go one better than the TIE/SA in that it is equipped with a light deflector screen, allowing the bomber to take a few more hits than the smaller craft. This is necessary, however, as the TIE/IT's extra mass makes it sluggish to maneuver, and wholly incapable of nekfighting, though it does retain the twin fixed forward laser cannons of the TIE/SA. In general, the TIE/IT is meant to be operated with a strong starfighter escort, or in areas where complete aerospace superiority has already been achieved.

TIE Interdictors, when not loaded down with ordinance, can also make decent transports. Like the TIE/SA, the ordinance pod of the TIE/IT are modular, and can be swapped out for pods that can carry either 6 fully equipped soldiers or up to 15 tons of cargo each. Unlike the TIE/SA, which only had room for a single pod, the TIE/IT can "mix and match" pods for different mission profiles as needed, making it extremely versatile. Unusually for a TIE variant, the TIE/IT is also equipped with a full life support system, meaning that crew and passengers are not required to wear full environmental suits.

As with most Imperial equipment, the TIE/IT was retired from New Republic service soon after the end of the Galactic Civil War. As a heavy bomber, the type is fairly rare today outside of museums.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Civilians are generally not permitted to own starbombers such as the TIE/IT without extensive licensing. Even with this, the type receives heavy scrutiny from most authorities. Recognized military and paramilitary organizations may have an easier time of it.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from canon into our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Individual characters are barred from owning heavy starbombers. Ownership of a vessel of this type is restricted to factions.
