DESCRIPTION
The TIE/R automated starfighter, sometimes referred to as the Auto-Fighter or the TIE Robot, is a droid starfighter which was developed for the Galactic Empire during the later years of the Galactic Civil War. Said to have been created on the direct order of Emperor Palpatine himself, the TIE/R is similar in concept to the TIE/TD training droid in that it is essentially a droid brain dropped into a TIE space-frame, however unlike the TIE/TD the TIE/R has been optimized for its role as a full combat spacecraft.

The TIE/R automated starfighter is 6.1 meters in length, smaller than a standard TIE, with thin, bident-shaped solar collectors and a unique "cockpit viewport," actually a large multi-spectrum photoreceptor for the fighter's droid brain, a Cybot-Galactica Ace-6. Armament and speed is identical to the standard TIE, as is maneuverability; these factors would be better, however the TIE/R's hull uses a thicker gauge of Quadanium steel than is typical for TIE's, making the ship heavier.

Although the TIE/R's droid pilot brain is considered at least on par with the most advanced designs fielded by the CIS during the Clone Wars, these starfighters are still best suited to simple swarm tactics, with large numbers being employed in a given engagement. TIE/Rs are capable of coordinating to what is considered an eerie degree, with large groups able to move in perfect unison. Despite this, they cannot be said to individually be a match for a skilled organic pilot; individual TIE/Rs are considered a step above disposable.

TIE/Rs first entered service after the Battle of Hoth, initially in small batches. Although not well liked or trusted by Imperial commanders, some of whom remembered the type's Separatist ancestors, TIE/Rs became increasingly valuable as the attrition of skilled TIE pilots took its toll; after the Emperor's apparent death at Endor, TIE/Rs began appearing with more frequency. During Operation Cinder, massive formations of TIE Robots equipped with single-use hyperdrive sleds attacked several worlds in the Mid Rim, swarming the planets' defenses and suiciding into vital infrastructure and population centers. In combat, TIE/Rs seemed to have little regard for the difference between friend and foe; Imperial pilots who strayed too close to any combat by TIE/Rs were as apt to be shot down as Rebels.

After the defeat of the strongest and most unified Imperial remnant forces at Jakku, TIE/Rs became less and less common, eventually disappearing from most of the warlord fleets. In the present day, they are extremely hard to find, although occasionally one of the hidden factories which churned out the type will be rediscovered.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Private ownership of TIE/R droids is difficult to do legally, requiring extensive licensing and registration.

INTENT
To add a vessel from canon to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
Except as a chassis for a droid character, ownership of TIE/R droids by individual player characters is not possible. TIE/Rs may be acquired by factions. Characters based on TIE/R droids may be created, but will be subject to increased scrutiny by members of staff.
