DESCRIPTION
The TIE/RB heavy starfighter, better known as the TIE Brute, Heavy TIE, Infiltrator or "Bubba," is a variant of the TIE family of starfighters originally developed by Sienar Fleet Systems in the last days of the Clone Wars. Something of a departure from other fighters in the TIE series, the TIE Brute only has about 20% parts commonality with the standard TIE/LN, being larger, bulkier and more heavily armed and armored, incorporating a number of fully custom systems.

The TIE/RB is an intimidating craft. Flown by a single pilot in a fully pressurized cockpit (unlike the standard TIE), the ship is not as fast or maneuverable as the standard TIE, only able to reach 90 MGLT, but makes up for it with extra durability and a heavier armament. Although it does not possess a conventional deflector screen, the TIE/RB's hull is reinforced with titanium armor, allowing it to take a few more hits than a normal TIE and keep flying. Armament consists of a pair of heavy laser cannons; unlike the normal TIE's medium cannons, these weapons do not share a power source with the engine, having their own reactor located in the same outrigger pod they are attached to. This allows for a higher rate of fire than is normal for heavy cannon-equipped starfighters. The weapons also have improved accuracy, being linked to a slit-type high resolution targeting sensor located in the same pod.

Of note, the TIE/RB is equipped with an integrated droid brain, similar to an astromech droid and performing many of the same functions. Old Imperial doctrine was to perform a memory wipe of this droid brain after every mission, however if this was neglected the fighter could develop a distinct personality and mannerisms, resulting in unique flight characteristics, usually developed around a specific pilot. In the present day, many TIE/RBs display such personalities.

Although well liked by their crews, TIE/RBs were never widely used by the Galactic Empire. Due to their many unique components, they created a number of logistical headaches, and were relegated mainly to hazardous environment postings such as inside nebulae and dense asteroid fields. The Imperial Army was the largest operator of the type, using them mainly in a ground attack and bomber interception role, however the majority of their fighter strength remained standard TIEs and TIE Bombers. Imperial fighter schools were known to use the type as trainers, their durable construction making them more difficult for over-eager cadets to damage.

In the present day, TIE/RBs are relatively rare, although not unheard of.

LEGALITY
