DESCRIPTION​

The TIE/VT starbomber, also known as the TIE Vitrificator, is a recent model in the TIE series manufactured by Sienar-Jaemus Fleet Systems. Meant to compliment the all-new TIE/ST starfighter, the TIE/VT is meant to replace the venerable TIE/SA, although it shares almost no parts in common with its predecessor. Like the TIE/ST, the TIE/VT is meant to be a "clean sheet" design, refreshing the TIE series for the next generation.

Like the TIE/SA before it, the TIE/VT is a twin-pod design using Sienar's Twin Ion Engine for propulsion, but it is here that the similarities to the old design end. Incorporating a different cockpit design to any previous TIE, the TIE/VT has superior visibility and - unusual for a TIE - incorporates a 3-being crew compartment, with space for a pilot, co-pilot and single passenger. Amenities include a life support system, small refresher compartment and even a limited food preparation area for long-duration missions. These missions are made possible by the inclusion of a class 2 hyperdrive, which allows the TIE/VT to easily traverse interstellar distances.

The TIE/VT's armament is slightly less versatile than its predecessor, but does take advantage of refinements in the miniaturization of munition launchers since the Galactic Civil War, its smaller but higher capacity magazine pod giving the ship an asymmetrical look. This does preclude the carriage of extra passengers or cargo, as with the TIE/SA, but the TIE/VT can still carry up to a ton of cargo behind its cockpit.

The TIE/VT is armed with a dual-purpose ordinance launcher located in the outrigger pod, capable of firing either torpedoes or "dumb" bombs, as well as a pair of forward-firing medium laser cannons. Unlike some earlier TIEs, the TIE/VT is equipped with a light shield projector, giving it enhanced durability in combat.

The TIE/VT is easily the fastest and most nimble of the TIE bombers to date, with a top speed of 90 MGLT and decent maneuverability. This puts it in the realm of some starfighters, and reduces the craft's need for dedicated escort fighters to some degree.

Though it has certain disadvantages compared to the old TIE/SA, the TIE/VT is well made and has enjoyed at least decent sales so far.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Civilians are generally not permitted to own starbombers such as the TIE/VT without extensive licensing. Even with this, the type receives heavy scrutiny from most authorities. Recognized military and paramilitary organizations may have an easier time of it.
