DESCRIPTION​

The Republic’s Tooth-Class Interceptor is a new product rolling off the assembly lines of the Corellian Engineering Corporation (CEC), after the senate voted to begin the rearmament of the Republic.

The Tooth is capable of accelerating to high speeds very quickly, allowing its pilot to pursue an enemy and close the gap between the two easily. As a result of this, the ship is equipped with four light laser canons, since the ship would be expected to get into close range easily, and to also save on production cost. Each laser canon is mounted to the end of each “wing”, giving the ship’s weapons the ability to focus on an enemy fighter without other parts of the interceptor getting in the way. Due to the low armament of the interceptor, it is unable to damage anything larger than a corvette, and so it must be used in tandem with either heavier fighters or bombers in order to inflict significant damage to such vessels. To further lower the production cost of the Tooth, the pilot is not provided with shielding, but rather just their own flight jacket and helmet, which are advised to be vacuum-rated, should the pilot need to eject. However, if the pilot is not in danger, then they can enjoy the comfort of a gimballed cockpit, moving separately from the “wings” of the vessel, which allows for the pilot to remain focused and calm during spins, and sharp turns. The interceptor should undergo maintenance after each flight or battle, to check for damage to the cheap components used. Despite its materials, the Tooth is usually quite a reliable craft.

The Tooth-Class, in summary, is a cheap, fast moving interceptor, capable of destroying enemy fighters, should it get into close range, but it is weak to attacks and is easily destroyed, and relies on its high speed and capability of performing sharp turns, to survive.

LEGALITY​

Restricted. Legal within Republic space, but limited to GAR combatants.

INTENT​

To expand the Republic’s space combat capabilities, and arm it with a fighter capable of high speed manoeuvres. Made as a result of the recent passing of a vote to rearm the Republic.

ADVANCED TECH​

YES. The Tooth-Class is a Republic military ship, and its design is a closely guarded secret, as a result. Stealing one would require breaking into a Republic base, hijacking(?) etc.

Cutting edge new starship designs for faction tech needs to be developed through plots. Since this is markedly better in armament than the hawk-bat interceptor that the Republic already has available, it will fall into that category. You cant just retroactively vote months or years of research and development into existence, unfortunately.

Out of curiosity, though, if I reduced the four light laser canons to two, would that be more in line with the hawk-bat’s armament?

It would be. I'm still curious though why this submission is necessary, because the intent is pretty lacking. Why would the republic replace its already readily available model of tried and true interceptor?
