DESCRIPTION
From the factory, most vehicles do not operate at their full potential. Due to various governmental regulations, many drive systems used by ground and air vehicles such as landspeeders, jumpspeeders, airspeeders and swoops are artificially capped at a certain performance level, though they are typically capable of much more. Though there are numerous and valid safety reasons that this is done, the fact that someone else has any say in just how fast their own craft can go rankles some pilots, and thus a popular "fix" was developed.

De-limiting a vehicle's engine removes the factory performance governors which normally hold them back. Doing this is considered illegal in many jurisdictions, and is purposely made difficult to do by many manufacturers in order to avoid liability, but it can be done with the right parts and expertise. De-limiting a vehicle's drive systems normally wrings about 50-400 extra kilometers per hour of speed out of them.

De-limiting a vehicle's drive systems is not consequence-free. Though it increases top speed, the mod adds additional weight and increased power drain to the vehicle, putting a strain on repulsorlift systems. Vehicles lose 0.5 meters of ground clearance for every 50 kph of speed gained; vehicles with a ground clearance below 1 meter cannot be fitted with this mod.

LEGALITY
Illegal. Though de-limiting a vehicle's sublight drive is normally not an especially visible mod, and most beings are able to get away with doing it, it is considered illegal under most jurisdictions.

INTENT
To create a simple performance upgrade for ground and atmospheric vehicles.
