“Long ago, a cosmic object fell to our planet, Aether, exploding with great force. A rift was torn in time and space, and a strange power flowed over the world. Where once there was one Aether, there were now two. One of light...and one of shadow, each existing in its own dimension."

The planet of Aether was about as strange as one could get. The planet itself had no sun, the only way of sustaining life was something the local Luminoth called "The Light of Aether." And the locals were strange as well, what with their super-advance tech, while still being highly spiritual.
But that wasn't even the strangest part. On the eastern hemisphere sat a meteor of titanic proportions. Its impact had hollowed out half the planet, destroying its ecosystem. And so the other residents began to fight for the only stable place left on the planet, creating a long and bloody war between the moth-like Luminoth, and the dark beasts called Ing.
So the Galactic Federation sent in a single squad of troops to the planet, not aware of the war, or the darkness creeping in...
"Systems check complete. Everything's A-OK." The technician, PFC E. Deyns called.
He sat hunched over a screen, diagnostics flowing in and out.
The little base didn't take long to set up, but boy was it secure. The entire thing was underground, with security hatches locking every feasible entrance. Nothing could get in, wheter on accident or purposefully.
"Hey, did Lucas ever get back? He hasn't checked in for five cycles." Deyns called back again, frowning at the missing soldier. Everybody on this mission had a vital job, so they couldn't afford to lose anyone.
