Tatooine was just as hot as ever, but for what was considered so, it was a nice day. A couple of fluffy white clouds drifted lazily across the sky, and there was a warm breeze that was just ever-so-slightly cooler than the weight of heat burning down from the planet's twin suns. Conversation - shouting, whispers, small talk, and bartering - filled the streets with a cacophony of noise, and the restless humming of repulsor vehicles zipped in and out of the lull.

The streets of the capital were filled with all sorts of folks, most of which were partially or fully covered by hoods or scarves to keep the summer suns off their faces. All sorts of aliens and humans roamed and gathered around in the streets, all looking their own various shades of shady. A man on a street corner was being accosted by two Jawas pestering him about his droid. Two Gamorreans were day drinking over a game of marbles, looking about two shots away from getting into an altercation. A woman appeared to greet another by shaking hands, but a bag of spice slipped through their intertwined fingers. Tatooine had a reputation, and it lived up to it. This was, after all, one of the crime capitals of the galaxy, and the former stronghold of the infamous Jabba the Hutt.

Mars, or 'Aacklay' to the man she would be working with, had her reservations about working for the Hutts. It wasn't that her brand of crime was any better morally, per se, but there were two many stories about the Hutts and their double-crossing ways. Thankfully, Mars was only involved in the setup for their little operation. Her job was to get in, get what they wanted, leave, and get paid. Simple enough.

She arrived at Tatooine's capital a few days prior and had spent that time doing passive reconnaissance and otherwise just enjoying the city as much as was realistically possible. The cyborg hardly stood out among the population, especially while wearing the same headwrap every other human here was wearing too. She had yet to run into any trouble. Hopefully, that would remain true.

At the moment, 'Aacklay' sat alone at a table in the corner of a bar, waiting for Silvus to meet her. Her metallic fingers were curled around an untouched glass of vodka that she swirled around and around in its glass, and her other hand was curled into a fist so that she could lean her cheek against it. The woman's eyes wandered the bar, traveling from person to person, and drinking in the sound of the rowdy crowd more than her own drink. As chaotic as it was, Silvus wouldn't have any trouble finding her.

Silvus lowered the scarf he loosely had wrapped around his face for cover, as soon as the cooling shadow of the bar gave him the opportunity to do it. That the natives could live this way was a wonder to him. The red eyes, carefully hidden behind a pair of visor glasses jumped from person to person until he could find a table matching the description he had received.

Once he moved close, he towered far above the hooded figure and bended down, peaking over the visor.
He moved a hand to the table for support. Even if he had tried to stay incognito, the Zeltron still wore his gold rings, and they knocked against the surface, colourful stones reflecting light from the ceiling.

“And you must be Aackley, I presume? What an honour”.

Silvus eyes locked calmly with those that were hidden within the veil. His lips parted in a wide pearly white grin.

The bar continued to be rowdy, singing a song of drunk chatter and the sound of cheap mugs slamming down against cheap tables. Mars continued to swirl her untouched vodka, watching and waiting for Silvus to arrive.

He was tall, she noted as she tilted her chin up to look at the violet-skinned man. His features were sharp and chiseled, and his downturned eyes were colored entirely red. Did he have some sort of infection, or was this typical for a Zeltron? Unfortunately, Mars had never visited the hedonistic planet, so she couldn't say for sure. She wouldn't ask, either.

"You've presumed correctly. Silvus? Nice to meet you," 'Acklay's' eyes narrowed ever so slightly, indicating that the woman was smiling underneath her desert scarf. She gestured for the giant of a man to take a seat across from her, then procured a datapad from one of her pockets.

"Here, look at this." She slid the datapad across the table for Silvus to peer down at or take into his hands. On the screen, written in small font Galactic Basic, was a rough plan of what lay ahead for the two of them. "This is where you come in." She hovered a finger over the section she figured he would be best suited for: a distraction. How he chose to do so was up to him, as long as their target was kept out of his office long enough for Mars to download the data she was hired to acquire.

Once he finished reading over the material, the cyborg woman would fish a couple of crowns out from her pocket and leave them on the table. She stood, returned the datapad to her pocket, and motioned for him to follow her.

"How about we get some fresh air? It's a bit muggy in here," she suggested. Outside, they could head toward their destination and avoid listening ears as they walked.

Every line of the datapad became examined with the careful eye of someone you would believe worked in an office. A black wavy lock fell down into his face as Silvus read, but he proceeded undisturbed and nodded in silent agreement when he was finished.

“Let’s. After you my dear”.

With a hand gestured towards the door he followed his contact as a huge wall that prevented anyone behind them from reaching her. Before he exited the bar, he looked over his shoulder to make sure no one had caught an unpleasant interest. Instead of pushing the veil back, he rose his arm for cover against the sun.

“This may prove a bit more difficult than my usual performances. But I will take that as a challenge. I have a wide variety of experience behind me. It shouldn’t be a problem to make them play along with me in a game of tag”.

Mars was quiet as the two of them walked through the streets, and the depth of her mood could only be discerned from the two brown eyes that peaked out from under the desert scarf wrapped around her head. It was clear she was listening to Silvus from the way her eyes darted back and forth between him and the road ahead, but she said nothing.

It was only once they reached the residence of the governor that she spoke from underneath the lightweight fabric.

"When we go in there, I don't know you and you don't know me. I just need you to get him out of the room somehow so I can get in and get what I need. If things go well, it shouldn't take me longer than ten minutes. If not-" The cyborg woman lifted up her arm and tapped the comlink inserted into the outer side of her wrist. "-I'll let you know."

From here on, Silvus had the hard part of the job. In Mars' opinion, at least. "I'll head in after you."

The tall Zeltron didn’t respond at first. He fished a cigarette holder of black jade out from his messenger bag and tapped a cigarette into it with careful ease. But it was as much to hold something between his fingers, to create a tool to channel any unease he didn’t show into an object.

“Roger that. What do we know about the big guy so far? A profile would be much helpful”.

In his other hand he picked up a metallic inhaler and looked at it, as if he considered something.

"He's a Rodian," she answered. "He hasn't been governor of Tatooine for all that long, since the last guy up and quit after some debacle in the Senate." She should really pay a bit more attention to galactic politics seeing as the Crimson Dawn stood to gain something from it, but the slicer couldn't really be bothered. She just didn't give a shit. "Do whatever you want, just don't hurt the guy," she murmured.

'Acklay' looked up at him and waited to see if that was enough info, and then, to wait for him to walk in so she could walk in after him.

Silvus beckoned to her and placed the inhaler back in his messenger bag.
“That means he’s fresh in the game. But we shouldn’t find him gullible, as we have no idea what he did until he came to power and received the position. I’ll see what I can do”.

With a wink and the wave of a hand, he signaled for Ackley to through the door and followed soon after.
“Ladies* first”.

(*In case Mars is using a voice changer, he would refer to her as you).

Mars suppressed an irritated sigh when Silvus gestured for her to go forward after she'd explicitly stated she wanted him to enter first. It wasn't a huge deal, but it was the difference between those inside the building getting a good look at her or Silvus first. Not in the mood to repeat herself, the slicer nodded and strode forward toward the building. Perhaps the giant of a violet man would immediately take the attention off of her and make things easier.

'Aacklay' turned to look at the man right before she entered and whispered, "You have an appointment with the governor." She then entered, and immediately made her way off to the left, eyes relaxed and body language indicating she knew where she was going already.

Silvus snickered with amusement, when he followed Mars into the residence and her brief annoyance washed over him. Of course, as a man of honour, it was only appropriate that he allowed Aacklay to go first! But he didn’t comment it, and as soon as she disappeared left in the hallway, Silvus proceeded straight ahead.

When it ended, he knocked on the wall, and as he did, dust fell down from the ceiling, and a crack above him expanded slightly. On that note, he decided it was no good idea to destroy the sorry state of the supposed residence any further. So, to announce his arrival, he whistled instead. Loudly and insisting. If someone didn’t know better, they would think he was looking for a dog that ran away.

“OI! Excuse me? Anyone home?”

"Come on in!" A man's voice called out from behind the door, a twinge of a foreign accent lacing the undertones of his vowels. The door, upon opening, would reveal a rather classy office with dark wood floors, jewel-toned walls, and modern furniture intentionally designed with classical flairs. A rodian man with warm-toned green skin was reclined back in his office chair with his hands folded neatly on top of the desk. He wore an expensive suit with a silken tie, and there was a polite but curious look on the governer's face. A metal prism sat on the front of his desk with the words "Governer Teeg Eendivor" embossed into the gold metallic surface.

"Marcus, was it?" he called out, gesturing for the tall Zeltron to take a seat at one of the two chairs in front of his desk. Even though he was seated, Silvus would be able to see that the man was not very tall. "An interesting name for a Zeltron, but I suppose you're probably not from there."

"So, to what do I owe the pleasure to?"

-----

Meanwhile, while she waited on Silvus to get the governor out of the room, Mars waited patiently.

*Was that Markus?... I think he said Markus*.

*He said Markus!*

Silvus fought himself to avoid rolling his eyes way back into his skull, in the senator’s presence.

*Of course, if you want someone to make up trustworthy and reliable names with class, you choose someone that goes by the cover of Aacklay…*

”Yeesss. That’s right. Marcus Monroe. A pleasure to meet you Governor Eendivor”.

With those words Silvus took seat a seat and leaned back to make himself comfortable. Then he sent the small alien a large smile worthy of a toothpaste commercial.

”I am a substitute member of Jawa’s Species Rights and Culture Dissemination Committee.
We coordinate, mediate, facilitate AND validate. Unfortunately… our past representative became victim of a sudden illness. Poor thing”
he sighed theatrically and allowed his voice to shake slightly. For added effect, he placed his hand above his heart.

“Ahh, I can barely stand thinking about it. It’s so cruel”.

While Silvus worked on schmoozing the governor out of the room, Mars found a chair to sit on, pulled out a datapad, and began working on a job-related program. There wasn't much she could do until Silvus finished his part of the job.

The Governor folded his hands, a little unsure of how to respond to this and the large purple man in front of him.
“My condolences. It must be a tremendous shock for everyone”.

Silvus shook his head.
“Ha! Nono, it was much worse than what you may think. Fatherhood!”

With befuzzled blinking, the Governor tilted his head, narrowing his eyes slightly.
“Mr. Monroe, I must say that I never have heard about this organization before”.

“Governor Eendivor, have you ever seen a Jawa in an office before?! Me neither! Let’s be honest here, the Jawas aren’t the most charismatic fellas you would run into. Which is where we come in! There is a general consensus in public that Jawas are wile, savage creatures, and this subjects them to cruelty and general misunderstandings. And it could not be any further from the truth. This is a matter that is very close to my heart. My mother was saved by a Jawa once!... May I ask, will you take a walk with me? It’s a little emotional, and I don’t feel too comfortable in closed walls”.

There was no space for the Governor to answer, for Silvus was already up from his chair and held his hand towards the door. He saw doubt in the mimic of the Governor, but it was quick to evaporate, when the Zeltron hybrid focused on projecting confidence and serenity with his empathic ability. Soon after, he heard the Governor say:
“Of course, I am always in for some fresh air! Good for the health, after all”.

“We have a lot to discuss”.
Like a cattle dog herding a stray animal, Silvus walked behind the Governor, should he get any sudden ideas of returning to the room, and the door closed soon after them, and they could be heard down the hallway, moving towards a staircase.

As soon as she saw Silvus leave with the governor, Mars stood up and casually made her way toward the office. She passed by the two of them, seemingly absorbed with her datapad and only offering the both of them a slight upward nod in acknowledgment. He was the governor after all, but he didn't acknowledge her back.

She walked straight into his office made her way to his desk. She pulled a little thumb-drive like device out of her pocket and immediately inserted it into the console. While the program loaded in past the security measures, she briefly glanced around his desk for any clue toward what the password to the system would be. She found nothing, so she then took a seat at the side of the room like she was waiting for the man to return. A notice popped up on her datapad, and she immediately got to work breaking into the system.

”The Jawa’s have for many years been a great example of utilizing whatever materials they can find in order to survive, despite dire situations. But moisture farmers are frequently competing them for territory and driving them off the land. Thus, forcing Jawas into a never-ending circle of moving, scavenging, stealing and even cooperate with Tusken Raiders. Leading to possible main of both Jawas and the moisture farmers.

And the thing is – There is no support to find anywhere to break the cycle. This is where you come in!”

Silvus waved a hand out towards the Governor, that looked a bit lost.

“I would love to help, but as much as I can hear that the situation requires attention, Jawas are not our first priority at the time being”.

Silvus shook his head.
“I’m sorry to hear that. Jawas are compassionate, intelligent sentient beings. Treating them as lesser could have a very negative impact on your political campaigns, should the media present you as someone unsympathetic that doesn’t care for the weak…”

He held a theatrical break, already sensing how the Governor began being nervous.
“You don’t want that… do you?”

Since her attempt at finding a password were unsuccessful, Mars had to spend more time working on the system before she was able to break in. She watched the progress bar on her brute force program slowly tick forward toward the end, eyes flicking between it and the door. She only needed a few more minutes before she was in, then the data would be hers to grab.

Silvus continued to debate back and forth with the governor. Each time he felt doubt, he stabbed into the little marks of insecurities that once in a while became visible in the politician, all under the impression of being concerned for his wellbeing or career. But it couldn’t be further for the truth. And the Zeltron had no problem with telling some made-up stories to give the impression that he was man of passion with personal experience in the field. He just had to keep going – if his partner hopefully could hurry up.

A few minutes later, and Acklay was into the system. She let the algorithm do its thing, flipping through the files and searching for keywords and indicators of anything blackmail-worthy. It wouldn't be too long before she struck gold -- "Oh, this is juicy." -- and immediately downloaded a copy of the data onto her device. She nabbed a few other items for her own personal gain as well: security information, protocols, and other information the mayor didn't have under further encryption. And right before she "unplugged" and headed out, she left herself a backdoor. Who knew when having access to Tatooine's governor's administrator account could be useful?

Mars cleaned up the log, then disconnected and exited the room. Silvus would get a notification on his comm device not long after Mars had exited the building. Once she was in the clear, she would make a copy of the data and leave it on a drive hidden under a pot not too far away from the building.

< Device location is sent, > she spoke into her device as soon as Silvus replied with the signal that he was out of the building. Once he acknowledged it, she made her departure from the scene.

”Yes! You are right. So, in order to create a more peaceful connection between moisture farmers and Jawas it’s important we speak with all connections along the line. We must create cooperation between them. This will require that we gain the support of influential families in the area. Your help will be absolutely irreplaceable here!”

Silvus caught glimpse of the blinking lamp on his datapad in the messenger bag, and rounded off the conversation.

“That will require an additional meeting. Thank you for taking a little piece of your time out of your schedule to listen to me. Let’s stay in touch. I will get back to you once I have contacted the families”.

With a handshake, Silvus and the governor departed.

When he reached the area and had turned stones and finally the pot, he held the data chip up with a smirk and a whisper.
“You did it girl… But what exactly did you do? I can’t wait to find out”.

He stuffed the data carefully into a closed pocket in the messenger bag and left for his ship.
