Nar Shaddaa

Another night on the Smuggler's Moon also known as Nar Shaddaa. The decadent Ecumenopolis is as corrupt as it ever is, being the heart of the Hutt Cartel itself. Jack Lawson, the operative and slicer employees by the Hutt Cartel itself, is in secertive slicer's den which is controlled by the cartel itself. This location has some advanced computer and electronic equipment for use so that slicers and hackers like Lawson can do their thing.

Right now, Jack Lawson is sitting on a black seat in at a desk in the den, working on a dual-screened terminal. The area is barely-lit. On one of the screens, it's playing an address the Supreme Mogul declaring a great hunt, on the other, Jack is focued on browsing the holonet for any other significant happenings through out the galaxy. With the Supreme Mogul's address, he payed very little attention to it. A 'great hunt' for Jedi has no relevence to someone of Jack's skills. And on the holonet, more or less nothing of importance, or at least anything that directly concerns him. Done on the holonet for now, and nothing else to do at the moment he then leans back in his chairs and turns his view on the Supreme Mogul's address with disinterest, with nothing else to entertain him at the moment.

So here he was, in what many would consider "The Big Time". He was now working directly for the Hutts instead of just contracting out to them every now and then. So far it didn't seem so different, though of course he hadn't actually been givin' anything to do yet. After becoming part of the ka...Kaji...the family, he was just told to wait for work..or to go out and make his own. That suited the slicer just fine and he now made his way to one of the few places you'd ever actually see people like him together, a Hutt controlled slicer den.

He made his way down the back alley that he was told was the spot. It appeared empty, to the untrained eye. Charlie smiled as he made his way further in and took note of the various graffiti on the alley walls. To most it would look normal enough, but to any slicer worth their salt; they'd see the hidden language within. The Language of code. Deep down the alley the hidden messages and codes all coalesced into a narrow spot. Charlie looked closer and was barely able to make out a network port under the various lines of paint. He took out his datapad and linked into the port and was instantly met by lines of intersecting code. After a quick examination of the walls again he managed to find the links he needed to weed out the processes to open the door. He executed the function and was pleased to hear the sound of the wall slide up to his right. He disconnected and made his way down the dimly lit stairs and the wall closed again behind him.

He couldn't help but let out a whistle as he stepped inside the den proper. The place was loaded with equipment and monitors all showing various feeds of either code or surveillance. He smiled and bobbed his head exitedly. This was way more than he was expecting and this wasn't even one of the large cartel slicer dens. He noticed somebody off in the corner and made his way over as the place seemed to be empty except for the 2 of them. He approached the well dressed fellow, seemed to be a few years younger than Charlie, and gave him a big smile. "Hey man this place is great huh! Names Charlie and man I dig the vibe in here. Gonna be able to get up to all sorts of crap in here!" He offered his hand to the guy after his pleasant but of course load greeting.

Once the Supreme Mogul finished his speech on the screen, it then went to a thumbnail of the Mogul, with a giant play button being plustered in the middle of the screen. If Jack Lawson wants to, he could replay the Great Hunt address from there, but he won't. Some time after the Mogul's addressed finished, Jack Lawson heard a familiar noise in the background. Looks like a visitor is coming in. Lawson slowly rotated in his chair. It was nothing to worry about, as the location of the den is a guarded secert. After a few moments later, a new face then came into view, with Jack's eyes already on him.

The guy, 'Charlie' he identified himself as introduced himself and seemed really excited. Doesn't look like much. He's older, he looks like he just woke up from bed, and if Jack would be honest, wouldn't look out of place in the Lower City. Still though, he Charlie wouldn't be here if he didn't know what he was doing and wasn't rolling with the Hutt Cartel. Once Charlie finished introducing himself, Jack then responded to to Charlie. "Nice to meet you Charlie. I'm Jack Lawson." the dapper slicer said. Lawson refrained from getting up from his seat and then gave a brief look at his hand, before turning his eyes up at Charlie without taking him up on his offer of a handshake. Ever since Lawson settled on Nar Shaddaa, he refrained from putting other people, you never know where anyone may have been, and you never know how people are. Turning around his his chair slightly back and forth, looking every which way, Lawson's eyes then wondered. "I guess this is a nice place, it could be better but it works." Lawson said with a rather bored tone, then he wondered. "You just joined the Cartel?" he asked. Maybe it comes down to personality, but Charlie seems very excited.

Charli simply put up his hands a moment after Jack kept talking and didn't shake his hand. He'd respect the guys space as he wasn't completely trashed at the moment. He took a look around to Jack. "Oh yeah man, just joined up, something about a Great Hunt or something right? Aaah it's whatever man. I ain't lookin' to take on any Jedi's anytime soon. Just looking to make some dough and get up a bit ya know."

He took a seat next to Jack at another holonet terminal also with dual monitors. Jack didn't seem to impressed with the place but Charlie supposed that more than likely had to do with having already been with Cartel. Also juding from his clothes the skinny dude probably came from a bit of wealth. The sight of him made Charlie think back to the days with his gang. Better times than now to be sure, but he'd get himself and Mary back to that standard of living...if she ever woke up. He shook those thoughts from his mind for the moment and looked back to Jack who'd have probably noticed him space out a bit by now.

"Anyway how long you been on the Payroll bud? Say a bit judging from your duds huh?"

That's something they can agree on. A slicer such as Jack Lawson isn't interested in taking on Jedi now, or ever. He would much rather remain behind the scenes or elsewhere he can apply his skills. Fighting against dogmatic laser-sword wielding people who can use space magic isn't anywhere on his agenda. The ever-so-dapper Lawson nodded his head in agreement with his new colleague. "I'm not interested in the Jedi either" Looks like they are already finding some common ground. As Charlie then took his seat, Lawson then turned around in his seat to be facing the terminal once again, he isn't a very social person and he isn't sure he is quite comfortable with Charlie being next to him. He tries to wheel off a little bit to the opposite direction of him, so he can have some more personal space to himself. After hearing Charlie's question, Lawson answers "For about a year". Lawson then started looking upwards, pondering. It doesn't really feel like it's been that long since Lawson was forced off of Corellia after the Corenet authorities came after him after they found out Lawson was illegally wireing credits remotely. He ignored his statement about his 'duds'.

However, Lawson would be lieing if he wasn't just a little bit curious about his colleague's background. He is a slicer for the Cartel, just like him, they wouldn't be having this conversation otherwise. He then turns to face Charlie. "So, what's your story? Where do you come from, where were you taught at, and what brings you to the Cartel?" He asked. He then raises an eyebrow and forms a finger pyramid as he awaits Charlie's answer.

The scruffy hacker nodded and watched Jack slowly wheel away from him, to which Charlie mentally shrugged. Even he recognized that he could be a bit overbearing and at the moment he was sober enough to not push it. A year huh and this guy was already this dapper, though could've just been his style. Either way Charlie was ready to start making some credits for himself, but mostly for Mary. He cursed to himself knowing that her next round of medical bills were going to be due in the next few days. He needed a job, or at least a quick avenue into some credits. He glanced around at the den. This would be the place to do it. Maybe in a bit he could go diving for some easy bank accounts to crack or hell if this place had proper access maybe even a few companies he could siphon from.

He looked back to Jack realizing the man had asked him a question. "Oh me man? Aaaah well I was born here on Nar Shaada. Kinda had a classic story of parents who didn't give a kark, mixed with being poor as dirt. So they left just left one day and I had to take care of my sis." Charlie fumbled under his jacket and pulled out his datapad, which to Jack would probably look like a jumbled mess of wires and dingy duraplast and a screen. He pulled up a holopic of his sister. "That's her, names Mary and she became my world dude. So just kinda started taking odd jobs to take care of her."

He put away the datapad again and leaned back in his seat. "Believe me or not I'm self taught. Don't know man code and numbers just always made sense to me I guess. It was the only skill I had so I joined up with a gang, we did some jobs and made some money over the years. Gang fell apart, sister got sick, and then I heard that the cartel was looking to hire...well pretty much anybody they could get." He leaned up and held out his arms, "So here I am hehe. Mostly here to pay for my sis' bills man." In a rare moment Charlie became deadly serious and looked down at the floor. "I can't lose that girl man.....I just can't."

"I see" the Corellian native replied, having heard Charlie's life story. It was touching or so Jack Lawson guesses, maybe. Jack Lawson never was a people's person, but now that Charlie shared his background, he feels the obligation to share his own. He lets out a sigh before doing so. "I was born in Coronet City on Corellia. Had a well to do family. I grew up around computers, my parents worked in the IT field. I went to university and was planning doing the same thing. But over time I've grown bored, and at that time I decided that living a boring, stale life isn't what I wanted to do. I developed an affinity for hacking and stealing money electronically, and so here I am. " Lawson then forms a finger pyramid again. "Not exactly where I planned to be, but it will do for now." He non-nonchalantly said. Lawson didn't tell him everything, but that should suffice. Lawson then nodded his head, he didn't have anything else to say at the moment, 'sharing time' is over he guesses.

Charlie nodded as Jack shared his own experiences. After he was done Charlie had to admit that his fancy get up now made a lot more sense. Even most well off Nar Shaada natives didn't dress as well as he did. Being off world and coming from wealth made alot of sense now. Charlie was kinda jealous of him to be honest, though he would try not to show it. He looked back on his life and wished the choice to become a criminal had been his own. As far as he saw it his skill set only really ended you up with the wrong crowd on a moon like this one. Though not much could keep you from a life of crime if you had to stay here.

Charlie swiveled his chair around and eyed the terminal in front of him, as he eyed it he couldn't help but think back to his first criminal job. He'd been offered a buttload of credits to just slice past a security door and disable a holorecorder. In all his junker shop wasn't doing too bad. He came to realization that maybe he had grown bored to. Maybe he in Jack weren't that different after all. He shook those thoughts away for now and began to tinker around with the terminal. He lazily browsed the holonet, trying to think of a way to make some quick credits. He slowly scrolled down a list of headlines until he came to one about a local casino. He wasn't sure why it caught his eye, but he opened the page and took a quick look. It was owned by an up and coming Hutt it seemed. He dug a bit deeper, putting a bit of his skills to the test. After he pulled up a rooster of current Hutt's associated with the cartel, he could see that this Hutt was actually a rival of his new employers. Interesting.

He'd swivel around and was glad to see Jack was still around. "Hey man, I know we just met but come check this out." He'd swivel back around and if Jack came over to see he'd show him the casino in question. "Don't know if you're looking to make some credits guy, but this place seems like a pretty good target. It's got alright security, but I don't think it's anything we couldn't handle with a bit of muscle along for the ride." He'd turn to Jack and raise his eyebrows implying the question, "we gonna hit this place?"

When Charlie nodded his head, the conversation dropped from there abruptly with silence. When Charlie went off to be left to his own devices, Jack Lawson did the same. He turned his chair and then then went back to the same boring then he was doing before Charlie came in. He was getting tired and it was getting late, he wanted to end the day now but he still had *things* to do. When Charlie called for him, he shrugged and before giving him his attention. He pulled his chair up next to Charlie, entertaining him. He saw pictures of the casino. Upon further reading, it gives the name. "The Hijjod'Kall Casino?" he echos. And what Charlie says next afterwards however, "You're suggesting that we go over there and rob the place?" Just so he is one-hundred percent clear on what he suggesting. He's not sure on what to make. On one hand, it's safe operating in the den, on another it's less boring and there is bound to be a good profit going along with his idea. And who knows, it might be fun. Maybe. Lawson knows how to handle a blaster pistol and get by security systems, but he doesn't get many opportunities to do so. Color him interested, but he isn't sure yet.
