TYPE CQ ARMOR

During its campaign to pillage the Outer Rim in the early days of the Old Republic's expansion, the Republic Frontier Corporation equipped its personnel with a variety of tools and weapons to make them more effective in combat. While state-of-the-art in their day, many of these implements are entirely inadequate against the conditions of modern war, although they do still have some limited utility. Mainly, they are of great historical interest to modern collectors and scholars.

The RFC equipped its troops - mostly adventurers and mercenaries - with its own distinctive pattern of body armor, known as the Type CQ. This armor would be considered light in the present day, and was a compromise between mobility, versatility and protection. It consisted of a cuirass composed of kiirium-plated desh, light enough not to provide undue encumbrance but strong enough to turn projectiles from the slugthrowers and heatbeams still used by many Outer Rim cultures of the day. There was also a distinctive helmet, made of the same material. To save on cost and complexity, neither cuirass nor helmet contains any very sophisticated technology, aside from the expected buffers and heat dumps required to deal with hits from energy weapons. The kiirium plating of the armor also reflects at least a dull shine at all times, even when it has been neglected.

Beneath the actual armor, wearers of Type CQ generally wore a loose armorweave shirt and trousers, as well as high synthleather boots. Although not actively climate-controlled like some modern survival garments, the shirt, trousers and boots were made of materials which were resistant to extreme heat, cold and humidity, allowing them to be worn more or less comfortably in a wide range of environments.

In general, CQ armor is not worn in the present day, being of an antique design unsuited to modern battlefields. It is, as mentioned, highly prized by historians and collectors of ancient armaments, and can generally be found in museums and private collections in the present day.

LEGALITY

Legal. Regarded as little more than a historical curiosity on many worlds, despite once being a highly advanced and effective item of battlefield technology, CQ armor is not regulated on most worlds except as an antiquity. That said, wearing one in public on more civilized worlds is bound to draw some scrutiny.

INTENT

To create an iconic piece of armor worn by the mercenaries of the historical pillagers known as the Republic Frontier Corporation. This armor would mainly exist as an historic curiosity, or possibly as gear for NPCs who are really badly out of date.
