Thyferra wasn't such a bad place, Renfry decided. It was warm and had jungles, forests, and mountains that were filled with life. She could sense the ebb and flow of the world even from the city she was now standing in. A nice balance of the wilds that she loved and the cities of the more populated worlds. Fortunately, it was unlike Sullust in almost every way.

And it was the target of their latest scheme. She pulled a datapad from her small backpack purse and scrolled through it, sipping on a cup of caf as she read about the day's latest political debacle and awaited Emryc's arrival. She was dressed in a skirt, blouse, and small jacket, and were it not for the tattoos she might have looked just like anyone else on the world, beginning to acclimate more rapidly to being an "off-worlder."

She had consumed everything she could about the world's current political system and her oversimplified explanation was that it was bad. Oppression, subjugation, and exploitation seemed to be the big three, and very few people's were actually interested in doing anything about it. That spelled opportunity for a pair of Sith who saw something more to it than simple political unrest.

Emryc had arrived shortly after Renfry, parking nearby before heading into the pedestrian district. He knew this endeavor would be the first of several for them to get a foothold over the planet. The temperate climate was enjoyable, and it was a nice reprieve from being on a space station or Sullust.

He wore a button down shirt and jeans, a nice chrono on his wrist, and a pair of sunglasses custom fitted to accommodate his pointy ears. Hair, as always, was gelled and styled. He fit into the appearance of a civilian easily, the sleeves rolled up and tucked near the elbows. He spotted Renfry a short distance away and slid into the chair across from her.

Emryc pulled out a cigarra and lit it, calling over the server droid to order a mixed drink. He gazed up at Renfry, eyes hidden behind the shades, “Let’s hope we’re not in a rush,” He said simply, getting comfortable in his seat as he exhaled a plume of smoke.

She glanced up as he arrived at the table, smirking slightly as he settled in. He was looking quite fashionable as always and one might have never even realized that they were a pair of Sith plotting to take over the planet.

I'm certainly not, she said, waving her hand around to the day. In fact, it's such a nice day today I was thinking about taking the day off, heading down to the beach, and enjoying myself in the sand, she said, only half joking. That was precisely what she felt like doing today, but there was business to attend to.

She picked up her caf and sipped at it as he lit up the cigarra, scrunching up her nose as the smoke promptly polluted the fresh air.

I guess a girl can dream, she said with a wistful sigh as the waiter brought over a small, berry scone that she had ordered earlier.

Been to any good parties recently? she asked, still unable to believe that he was apparently a partier and hadn't deigned to inform her! She was still reeling from the affront!

Emryc looked at the drink that arrived - it certainly looked more fruity than he expected. He simply shrugged and took a sip, finding it oddly refreshing. There was silence after she spoke as there often was. Emryc looked away, quietly dragging from the cigarra and exhaling in the opposite direction.

“Perhaps a trip to the beach can be arranged,” He said blankly as he ashed the cigarra. He wasn’t exactly big on beaches, but he wasn’t really in a rush. Emryc sipped from his drink in between the smoke, turning his focus back on Renfry.

“I have been to many social gatherings,”
He muttered as he eyed her, “What is the true purpose of your inquiry?” Emryc asked back bluntly.

Renfry tried not to smile as he seemed less than ecstatic about going to the beach, but she was going to get him to enjoy it, stang it!

Don't sound so excited, she said with a chuckle, munching away on her snack.

Always right down to the heart of the issue. Sometimes it was difficult for her to imagine that he was the one who had been dancing at the party on Sullust or watched holomovies and read comic books on his ship.

Oh, no reason. Just never seen you dance before. Deeply upset that you've never taken me dancing, she teased, expecting to get little to nothing but way of a significant response.

Okay, say I wasn't here and we didn't have business. What would you do if you were just taking a day off? she asked. She knew he liked to do things. Most of the "free time" that the two had spent together had been spent aboard a ship with few options, but here was an entire city and plenty of things to do. Or perhaps he was in far too "business" of a mindset for anything so trivial.

Emryc swirled his drink before sipping from it again, glancing over to look at the tourists. There were a few attractive women with bikini tops and shorts walking by that certainly caught his attention. However, he was never too distracted to hear dialogue spoken his way.

He blew out smoke before turning to look at Renfry again, “I don’t recall you mentioning it either,” He said icily. He wasn’t the type to go anywhere for the sole purpose of dancing. Anytime it happened, it was spur of the moment. He focused back on people watching, enjoying the sounds of seagulls in the distance. Her next question was met with silence for a long moment as he quietly sipped from his drink. He finished up the cigarra, killing it in the ashtray.

“Hopefully I wouldn't be subjected to hypothetical questions,” He threw back his drink and set the glass down, “Are we going to this beach or nah?”

Always so grouchy, she thought, shaking her head at his icy tone and curt answers. But she was not to be discouraged. Not if they were going to make a beach day, though she did notice how he was busy checking out other women. He could at least be looking lasciviously at her!

She rolled her eyes as he mentioned that he didn't want hypothetical questions.

Yes, she said, finishing off her caf and standing from the table.

You know, it wouldn't kill you to smile, she said, squinting her eyes and staring at him for a moment before continuing to walk toward the beach. The sun was shining down and they reached the edge of the beach area in short order. There was a pier off to the left side and the waves were crashing against the sand not far ahead. She slipped off her shoes and dug her toes into the warm sand, letting it swallow up her feet. She closed her eyes and savored the feeling around her feet and toes, enjoying the cry of the seagulls, and the crash of the waves. It had all the good parts of a jungle and none of the dangers or hazards. It was perfect.

Do you enjoy nature? she asked, opening her eyes and looking out to the horizon where blue sky met blue ocean. She doubted he did, but it was worth the ask. Despite feeling like she'd learned a great deal about him, she still felt there was far, far more she didn't know.

“Smiling won’t make me immortal either,” Emryc grumbled back a response almost immediately. He stuffed his hands into his pockets, walking alongside Renfry as they made their way towards the pier. It was nice to feel the warm air brush against his skin, though it probably ruffled up his hair more than he liked.

As they reached the sand, he also took his shoes and socks off, not keen on getting sand into the designer brand kicks. He was already beginning to feel hot, the sun glaring down on the beach. He walked till he spotted some seats under an umbrella and set his shoes down. He was perfectly content with easing back and relaxing on the chair all day.

“I do,” He said in response to her question as he set up the umbrella for some extra shade, “Because it can be unpredictable,” Emryc admitted. He sat down on the chair and adjusted it so he was lying back on it. He glanced up at Renfry.

“I’m not sure if you know this...but you can’t simply strip naked and prance into the water here,” He questioned her understanding of most civilized practices and he didn’t want to be chased off the beach so soon after arriving.

Renfry waited a moment, watching him get ready to make out for the beach, taking his shoes off. He looked like he hated being here until he found a chair to relax in.

She walked alongside him, enjoying the sun beating down on her and selecting a seat of her own to recline in.

Do you really think I'm that stupid? she asked. She knew the answer was "yes" but she'd been living among the galactic citizens for a couple of years already and was plenty used to what was and wasn't appropriate in general situations.

Though, I'm glad to hear that my naked prancing is sticking in your mind, she said, smirking and not looking at him.

She thought about what he said about nature for a moment. She knew it was unlikely she'd ever get him back to Dathomir at this point. It had particularly unpleasant memories for him and despite her nostalgia for the world, she recognized that it wasn't the most "pleasant" place in the galaxy. Particularly not now that she had seen all the beautiful worlds in the galaxy.

Maybe I'll still lure you out into a wilderness hike yet, she said.

But you didn't grow up in nature. Will you tell me about where you grew up? What was it like? she asked. She had no idea whether or not he would be willing to share, but it was worth asking because she was curious. By this point he would know that about her, and he would also know that she was curious about him.

Emryc called over a droid to bring over a beer. It was cool and refreshing in the heat, and he took a sip. His gaze was trained ahead on the waves that broke against shore, “I’ve seen you naked enough to where I don’t need to use my imagination,” He said bluntly while taking a sip. The same could be said for him - if anyone knew about every scar on his body, it was probably her.

His knowledge of hiking was purely academic - he knew what to pack and what to expect, but he was still wary of doing it in practice. Emryc said nothing in response to the hiking comment. In fact, he was pondering a nap just then, the sound of the waves soothing and relaxing.

Her next questions, however, pulled him back to the present. Why was she so curious about such mundane details? Why didn’t she ask about his pursuits of power? Or what he planned to do with the Kravos teachings? It caught him off guard, and it left him pondering.

“I grew up on a space station,” He said in between drinking from the bottle, “I was raised like a soldier with a very rigid and strict routine,” He tilted his head to look at her, “I’m sure you can’t tell,” He added with a rare hint of sarcasm before looking forward again, “I never knew terrain outside of the station for the first few years of my life. I didn’t know the feel of wind in my face or grass beneath my feet. Or….gravity,” That was certainly an unpleasant discovery. He was surprised at how much he wanted to actually say all these things aloud. The realization made him catch himself and he withdrew again, turning back to the drink and watching the waves.

She ordered a drink from the same droid and then sat back once again. She listened intently to everything he said. It was so different to how she had grown up, and yet there were parts of it that she could relate to. It was the exact opposite of her. She'd never experienced artificial gravity until a few years ago, she'd known nothing but nature, and she'd only known where she was raised.

She smirked at his sarcastic comment, thinking back to how everything in his ship had been neat and orderly. Everything was in its place at all times.

She didn't interrupt as he spoke of what he wanted to and could sense... something in him. A different stirring than she had ever sensed from him before. She was silent as he finished speaking as well, looking out at the waves, thinking about what he said and enjoying the breeze.

She took a sip of the drink she'd had. She found herself wanting to be there for him, but she knew that wasn't ever going to be something that happened. That had been made clear on Korriban. She opted not to press her luck further yet so she rested her head against the seat and closed her eyes.

Her mind turned to what he had said on Korriban to her. The straightforward and truthful answer he had spoken. She thought of Kravos and the look in his eye and the things she had learned from him. She thought about what it meant for her in the future and the odd relationship she had with Emryc. There was a great deal more history between Andraste and Kravos to be sure, but there was more to it than that. She very nearly asked him a question but bit it back.

Was meeting Kravos what you expected? she finally asked after several minutes of silent thought. She knew if there was one thing he enjoyed talking about, it was this, and he would have no doubt picked up by this point that her generally flippant nature was placed on pause during such discussions, though the precise reason for that wasn't entirely clear.

Kravos. Where could he even begin with that? He took another gulp of the beer, silently watching the waves for a long moment.

“He remains someone I will stay devoted to,” He said simply, the sentence speaking volumes, “My mind is certainly different now,” He cast a halfway glance her way, “Those Dathomiri spirits would be hard pressed to try anything again,” It was satisfying to think. He knew his mind had become more of a fortress than ever, and even the ancient spirits attempting to possess him would be repelled.

Emryc set the beer down and put his arms up to rest his head atop them, putting one foot over the other to sway them side to side. It was obvious he was completely relaxed, and he allowed himself this time to unwind.

“I’d probably go see Amelie Leorna perform live while sipping from fine, aged whiskey,” He said suddenly after a long moment. She was an infamous jatz singing legend and tickets were exclusive, well beyond his means. He closed his eyes as he settled into the chair, “...If I had a day to myself with no plans.”

She listened to him speak about Kravos and Dathomir. Although she still didn't know precisely what had happened with "the woman" on Dathomir, she could tell that it had impacted him deeply and he seemed glad to have it behind him now.

Unstoppable, she said quietly, unsure if he would even be able to hear her. It was what she had said to him when she'd offered her services. He was slowly ticking off his weaknesses from the list, and she silently wondered if she would ever qualify and, if so, if she would warrant a checkmark someday.

No point in dealing in what-ifs, she reminded herself and sat back, drinking in the sun. Her skin had darkened since leaving Dathomir, but she still found herself prone to easy burns if left out in the heat too long. But right now, she didn't care. She cared about relaxing and enjoying the time she had to just... be.

His words caused her to open her eyes and look over toward him. She took note of the name and the description he gave, filing it away in her mind.

That sounds nice, she said sincerely.

Without warning, a beach ball flew through the air and landed promptly in Emryc's lap, followed moments later by a little human girl who couldn't have been more than eight or nine years old chasing after it.

She stopped short, looking at him and suddenly looking surprised and a bit trepidatious as she realized that her ball had actually landed on someone.

I... I'm sorry, sir. Can I have my ball back? she asked.

Emryc felt the ball land on him and he didn’t react at first, glancing down to inspect it. He heard the little girl’s voice and there was a moment of silence. For a few seconds, it was impossible to tell what would happen. However, Emryc rose from his seat, taking the ball and spinning it on his fingers before tossing it back to the girl. She lit up and stepped back before tossing it his way again. He caught it, following her out towards the beach to toss it back at her.

For a moment there was nothing but silence as he tossed and caught the ball a few times while guiding the girl back towards where her family was. He rolled the ball back to reunite them, turning to leave when the mother called him over. A quick glance told him it was a bunch of moms having a beach a day.

Emryc sat down on the towel with them and it appeared to be a lot of back and forth conversation, some twirling of hair and giggling. Almost half an hour passed by before he finally rose from the group, peeling himself away from the protests and smiles as he walked back, new comlink numbers crumpled up in his hand.

He walked back to the seats but didn’t sit down. He glanced down at Renfry and then back out towards the ocean, “Ever been on a boat?”

Renfry watched as Emryc tossed the ball back and forth with the young girl for several minutes, once again puzzling at him. He was strange to her in virtually every way, doing what she never expected.

As he made his way over to the group of women, she could see the women beginning to... oh brother.... She rolled her eyes as she watched the hair twirling begin and then the minutes ticked by. After a few minutes the annoyance began to subside and she decided to take a nap instead, closing her eyes and starting to drift off.

It was just as she'd started to fade away that he returned and asked if she'd ever been on a boat. She quirked an eyebrow.

No, are we going on a boat? she asked, swinging her legs off the seat and stretching her arms. Was she going to have to go with those women? She pushed the thought out and stood.

Looks fun, she said, glancing back over at the women. It was odd to watch how he slipped into a social mode with others, almost as if he put on a mask. It was fascinating to her and she couldn't decide if it was all fake or simply a different side of him. It was totally different than when the two of them were alone. Was it just that she was boring? Or was he just doing it to get something out of them? Curiosity abounded as usual.

Do you find people interesting? she asked, glancing back at him.

Emryc kept his gaze towards the water, “We are going on a boat,” He confirmed. He walked towards the pier where sailboat tours were being given. He forked over the credits for a small, private sailboat. They were led towards the docks where the boat was parked and he hopped in, extending a hand to help Renfry in.

He sat down near the cockpit, kicking up the engine to ease them out away from port. He applied vague knowledge he had from piloting, hoping it was slightly similar. His hopes were improved when he managed to get them out without any damage. The boat turned towards the ocean and he raised the sails up to catch the wind.

Emryc finally remembered she had asked a question, “For the ambitions that I have, I want people to think I find them interesting,” He said simply as the wind began to brush through the boat. The air was salty and the sounds of seagulls resonated in the distance. The water was calm for now, the gentle rise and lows of the boat climbing over the waves.

“I’ve never actually done this before so here’s to hoping we make it back in one piece,” He said bluntly out of the blue once they were out in open water.

They headed down to the docks, and Emryc rented a boat as she looked out over the small harbor. Boats of all different types were docked here and she knew... absolutely nothing about any of them. She would have thought "how hard can it be" but she had a feeling the answer was "harder than you think."

She took the offered hand as she climbed aboard, watching as he prepped to cast off. Unless he instructed her to do something she was going to be virtually no help at all, but that was also fine with her.

She took a seat near the side of the boat, leaning forward against the rope side rail when she heard him finally answer her question. She had gotten used to these extremely delayed responses, never quite certain whether she would get an answer or not.

Makes sense, she said, turning back to the water and thinking about what he said. She watched the water churn by and carry them away from shore. She reached into her bag, pulled out an undergarment to put on, and then promptly stripped away the skirt, blouse, and jacket until she was in something that was at least slightly comparable to a bikini.

She was just finishing folding the clothes and setting them down when she heard him say that he'd never done this before and he hoped they made it back in one piece.

You what?! she asked, feigning anger and stifling a laugh. She certainly hoped that he could get them back. She looked back to the shore far off in the distance and shook her head with a roll of her eyes.

Unbelievable, she muttered, swinging around and grabbing her datapad. She took a seat on a ledge just in front of him as she began scrolling through.

This says that there's a whale watching area not far away, she said, turning the pad around and holding it up so he could see the map. It was only a mile or two away from their current location and was alleged to have the most active wildlife in the area of all different sorts. Of course, she would find the animals out here, but this would not come as any surprise to him. Plus who didn't like whale watching!?

They were out in the water and he switched off the engines, relying entirely on the sails. He came out of the cockpit, stretching and gazing out into the deep blue. He glanced over to briefly take in sight of Renfry in her new choice of attire. After surveying her for a few moments, he decided to do the same, tossing off his upper body clothing. He welcomed the heat of the sun on his skin, and he had to stop and admire the feeling. It was still strange to him - something he had never experienced in space.

Emryc gazed off towards the sun, lighting a cigarra and smoking it as he watched the waves. He looked over when Renfry spoke, seeing the datapad she was scrolling through. With a subtle nudge of the Force, the datapad was sent flying from her hands and across the boat. He half considered tossing it overboard, but he held back.

“None of that,” He said simply, “Aren’t you supposed to be a nature girl?” Emryc grumbled as he blew out smoke, “We go wherever the wind blows.”

The boat was heading that way regardless, and he hopped up along the edge of it. He grasped onto a mast rope to steady his balance.

She felt the datapad pulled from her grip and it then went flying. She turned her head quickly to see where it landed and was glad to see it didn't fly over the edge. She knew he could have done that and would have been pretty unhappy.

You just can't stand me not looking at you, can you? she asked teasingly, letting her eyes now run over his less-clothed body. She made no attempt to hide it at all and let her eyes linger for several moments.

Oh, how spontaneous of you, she teased as he mentioned they went where the wind blew.

She sighed and leaned back on the ledge she had been sitting on, laying down and letting the sun wash over her pale skin. She turned her head lazily toward him to see what he was doing as he looked out over the water.

She laid there for a moment before heading to the small area below deck and grabbing a drink from the minibar below.

Drink? she asked as she emerged above with a bottle and a pair of glasses. She poured herself one and began to sip as she moved over to look out over the water.

Emryc turned to look at her as she spoke, leaning into the wind while he held onto that rope. There was a slight grin on his face, “You haven’t taken your eyes off since you first saw me,” He shot back at her, allowing himself to drink in sight of her own form. The sun accented her tattoos, the markings giving her a sense of beauty that was unique to her. There was always that almost wild look about her that he had grown to favor and the sunlight made her eyes burn with a new fire.

Instead of a glass, he used the Force to float the bottle itself over, taking a swig from where he was. He gazed out into the waters again, the sea stretching out far beyond he could see. It was humbling in a way - he felt small and insignificant very few times in his life, and this was certainly one of them.

“Are you happier among the Sith?” He asked abruptly. It wasn’t the kind of question he normally asked, nor did he usually care. Perhaps he still didn’t care, but it was curious nonetheless. He took another swig of the drink before he tilted his head to look at Renfry. The sunglasses added another layer of barrier between him and his already impassive eyes.
