For someone his age, Varyn has already been through more trying circumstance in his life than most. Without question some of these hardships were self-inflicted, but they have forced him to grow nonetheless. In his early years, he scraped by in poverty in the underlevels of Coruscant with his parents. When he lost his mother and was taken to the Jedi, he found a place and a purpose. It was only a few years later that he watched his friends and protectors drained of life and slaughtered during the attack on Ajan Kloss where the Grandmaster was killed. Nightmares of the losses still haunt him from time to time, and despite the years that have passed, he has not forgotten.

Even through this, Varyn continued his training. He dreamed of growing up to be a great Jedi warrior or general like the Jedi of old: leading soldiers into battle to uphold peace and justice. He was bent on eliminating the Sith from the galaxy and ensuring no one else ever had to suffer their murders again. He trained and became quite skilled with a lightsaber, but the way in which he found himself using it was not what he ever would have dreamed. Moreover, his certainty in using it has wavered considerably.

After spending two years undercover in the Sith Empire, his views on many things have shifted. He has seen the hatred that pervades the army the Jedi lead and the individuality of the Sith. They are people with hopes, dreams, loves, and aspirations, and perhaps not the caricaturization of evil he expected. He has formed deep bonds with some members of the Empire, which has only caused further conflict within him.

These new views created uncertainty in the young Jedi and he continues to struggle with his commitments, his feelings, and his place in a galaxy that's not as black and white as he was always taught.

Varyn was born into poverty in the underbelly of Coruscant where the sun seldom shines. He grew up surrounded by crime and extortion before he was rescued by a Knight of the Jedi Order the same night his mother was killed by a local gang. Realizing that he was a Force-sensitive, they brought him back to Ajan Kloss to be trained.

His most notable memory from those early years at the temple on Ajan Kloss was the night the Jedi temple was raided and the Grandmaster killed. It is still burned into his mind even all these years later.

As he neared his graduation from Padawan to Knight, he took on missions, faced AMS, competed in trials, went to parties, and got into mischief. He eventually built his first lightsaber and even trained in the wilds of Kashyyyk. He made some friends and followed up on old leads. It was a busy time even as a Padawan.

When he was knighted, he got straight to work. He took it on himself to seek out a new assignment. Heading to war-torn Denon he used the area to procure the items he would need to establish a cover for himself inside the Sith Empire. With the necessary items, he enrolled in a Sith academy and his cover was complete. After reaching out to the Jedi Order to notify them of what he had done, he was officially made a Jedi Shadow.

His first jobs as a Sith Acolyte weren't so different from what he'd have done as a Jedi, but not all were so simple. Returning to Denon he tried to find the balance between survival and fighting those he truly served. He began meeting new people and had some odd experiences before finally catching the attention of some senior Sith.

His actions took him further into the shadows as he worked to reconquer Dantooine and faced difficult and dark moments. His faith in who he fought for was shaken not for the first time, but he refused to embrace the Dark Side.

Still remembering where his cause lay, he worked with the Resistance to assassinate several instructors at the Dromuund Kaas academy. The moment was in stark contrast to the lavish parties he sometimes found himself attending, and like all things, his life became a further split between realities.

Not all was bad, however. He created new relationships, though his pursuit of those feelings was harshly interrupted by the death of his father. The line between revenge and justice, offense and defense became blurred as the murderers were killed.

His actions over those several months and the endorsement of a Champion finally earned Varyn a promotion within the Empire. His mind continued to be troubled by all that had happened, and he lacked clarity in his assignment. He had undeniable feelings for his fellow Champion and this only worsened his conflict over his position in both the Jedi and Sith.

Efforts to continue to undermine the Empire were met with mixed results, but he pressed on nonetheless. He was almost glad for a battle about which he didn't have to have any uncertainty. With growing unease about his role, he began to pursue his own insurance policies and his own answers.

Ultimately, he cast his lot with the Empire... and his friends. Internally, he confirmed his loyalty to the Empire and began searching for new purpose and pursuing goals of his own.

He continued battling Killiks on multiple occasions, conquered planets, and led new exploration.

He began training others in lightsaber combat, though their deaths on Korriban at the hands of Killiks set his career as a blademaster back. He mourned his losses, but with some encouragement, he continued to press on to his goal of blademaster.

His relationships were tumultuous, causing much pain and fear, but he still remained professional through it all, finding time to celebrate friends and steel moments of free time when he could.

He confessed his history to a friend, causing much distrust, but after killing a Jedi Councilor to prove his loyalty, he led an attack against Yavin IV where he was badly wounded, though his physical injuries did much to heal his relationships.

From an early age, Varyn's interest in dueling was pronounced. He has practiced extensively and become quite a competent swordsman. As a Shadow he had to become adept at hiding his true feelings on matters, and though he doesn't do it all the time, he can be quite difficult to read when he chooses to be. He is quite clever and resourceful and has, by necessity, developed quite a skill for getting into places he's not supposed to be. Within the Empire he is currently in training geared toward military operations and command. He is a passable pilot, though Vahliri may think differently.
