DESCRIPTION
The VT-49 Decimator is a gunship manufactured by Kuat Drive Yards. Designed for the First Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War, the Decimator was intended to serve as a picket ship for large fleet formations, as well as a light blockade runner, fleet scout, small-unit troop transport, close support attack ship and general hack. More independent and versatile than the small shuttles used by the Empire, the Decimator was a first command for many fledgling Imperial officers, and was seen as a good stepping stone toward command of a proper capital ship.

The VT-49 Decimator is similar to many light freighters in service throughout the Galaxy in capability and layout, although it was designed specifically for military service. The ship is 38 meters in length, and is crewed by 4 personnel, including a pilot, copilot and 2 gunners. 6 passengers can be carried, along with 80 tons of cargo and consumables sufficient for a month in space. The ship has a top speed of 50 MGLT, and boasts a class 1 primary hyperdrive, along with a class 10 backup. Being a military ship, armament of the Decimator is decent; stock, the ship carries 2 quad medium laser turrets, 1 dorsal and 1 ventral, as well as a concussion missile launcher with a magazine of 40 missiles, enough to bombard most ground targets and mid-sized enemy ships into submission.

After the defeat of the Empire, the VT-49 was mostly retained in its original role by the New Republic Navy, however it was eventually declared obsolete and was phased out of service. The type was bought up by independent system and sector governments, as well as by many civilians; the type's sturdy construction and heavy armament have made it especially popular with pilots traveling in dangerous regions of space, as well as with mercenaries, smugglers, bounty hunters and pirates.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Due to their military-grade systems and armament, some extra licensing is generally required for a civilian to fly this ship legally. Such permits are relatively straightforward to get in most systems, however.

INTENT
To bring a vessel from canon into our site's fanon.
