DESCRIPTION
The Wayfarer-class was an unusual ship released to the open market shortly after the end of the Clone Wars. It was designed with a detachable portside section originally intended for modular reconfiguration, allowing it to load a passenger section, a hangar bay, or cargo module into an armature extending from the starboard section. Production costs forced Kuat Systems Engineering to scale back their plans and create only the hangar bay module, which served as cargo space for most owners, who generally did not carry or store starfighters. Other custom, modified, or prototype builds to exist, though these are much harder to find.

It featured a surprisingly powerful engine and maneuvering thrusters necessary to push the ship through space, the additional weight and awkwardness of the cargo compartment providing a design challenge. This did mean that should the module be detached in an emergency, these powerful systems would allow a sharp increase in speed and maneuverability at the cost of the vast majority of its cargo capacity.

The ship was decently armed for its size and role, a standard dual laser cannon mounted dorsal while a quad light laser cannon covered the port section with an impressive hail of laser fire. The port gunnery station was attached to the overarching mounting bracket, accessed through the crawl space within. The hangar section sat in the center of the module, allowing the ship to transport two reasonably sized ships such as X-wings, Z-95s, A-wings, or other such ships that were not overly long or tall, fifty tons of cargo capacity taken up each fighter and the equipment required for them.

Despite the flaws that kept the Wayfarer from becoming a huge commercial success, the ship's versatility made it a well-rounded vessel, and it's design was rugged and durable with a noted ease of modification. It was popular with smugglers who could dump the cargo pod if they needed to avoid customs inspectors. It was also used by Rebel forces as an assault shuttle. Even in the modern day it isn't an uncommon to see them flown by long haulers or in pirate fleets modified as well-armed raiding vessels.

Though an older design, it is relatively easy to bring up some of its systems to modern standards and get flying, though examples that haven't been refurbished and updated in some fashion are extremely rare. Some owners replace traditional cargo space with things like medical suites, communications arrays, or even weapons systems. In the modern day, it's unlikely to see two Wayfarers with exactly the same layout. Because of this, while they can be found and purchased, the price may vary considerably.

LEGALITY
Legal. Light freighters such as the Rambler are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To introduce proper Space Bus to the forum, a ship shown both in Canon and Legends and frequently used in the tabletop rpg by FFG. An alternative to other big player-run freighters like the Rambler.

So, by my evaluation, the quad gunner station isn't actually part of the container, it's probably count as part of the ship proper; it looks like it's in the mounting bracket for the container, which would not be jettisoned in the event the container needed to be ditched. Probably doesn't need its own escape pod, either.

Found some art/models from different angles, you're definitely right. Edits complete.
