Weapon Power Redistribution

Affiliation:
Various

Manufacturer:
Various

Type:
Weapon Downgrade
Speed Upgrade
Power Supply:
Power Reactor

Sensors:
N/A

Size:
Varies

Composition:
Replacement Material and Wiring

DESCRIPTION
Some starships, in the eyes of their owners, just don't have enough engine power. While the majority of larger craft are armed with heavy weapons, some owners feel they just need a little extra punch in their sublight engines, and thus will endeavor to install lighter weaponry to their craft. Commonly, this involves going down a category; the owner of heavy cannons will downgrade to medium cannons, and one with mediums will go for lights, and if one has lights they will be entirley removed. Downgrading a ship's laser cannons is, in theory, not difficult for smaller craft, but the larger the ship the more difficulty, if not impossible.

This is done through redirecting the power targeted at the higher power cannon back into the engine. This adds more speed to this engine, as it is effectively overclocking the engine.

Moving at full speed with two of these redistributions (+10) strains the overclocked power system, but is 'safe'. Anything above that is dangerous, further straining ship engines. Continuing to move with added speed for three rounds, or firing weapons and moving with added speed in the same round will overlord the engines, shutting them down. However, moving with 20 or more added speed for any amount of time will make the engines automatically explode. For example, with a ship a base speed of 50 MGTL with 4 of these modifications installed, the ship's engines will automatically explode when they go at 70 MGLT for any amount of time.

Also, these modifications are improvised and don't work well with other speed-granting modifications, attempting to move at modified speed in conjunction with speed granted with other modifications will overlord the ship's engines and connected systems to the modifications.

Lastly, these modifications are not compatible with capital ships or ships of similar size. Also an individual cannon each cannon can only be downgraded once.

LEGALITY
These modifications may be innocuous on paper. However, these modifications are only legal in most jurisdictions within safe limits. Modifications to the point where they are prone to failure or explosions are illegal in most jurisdictions, not to mention it will null any warranty you may have with the ship.

INTENT
To create the inverse of the Laser Cannon Upgrade where, if a pilot requires a larger vessel but wishes for the craft to be faster, the operator may downgrade the craft's weaponry to add more power to the engines.

RESTRICTIONS
Cannot be mounted on capital ships or ships of similar size.

Downgrading a ship's laser cannons is, in theory, not difficult, and unlike upgrading the weaponry is actually very legal.

This is done through redirecting the power targeted at the higher power cannon back into the engine. This adds more speed to this engine, as it is effectively overclocking the engine. This is not major for a small amount of added power, but beyond adding 10 MGLT it is dangerous and beyond adding 20 it is almost always suicide. Each cannon downgrade adds 5 MGLT to the craft's speed, and each cannon can only be downgraded once.

LEGALITY
Legal. Removing weaponry is not illegal, as it is removing offensive power from your vessel. The added power and speed is redistributed from the weapon systems that were removed.

INTENT
To create the inverse of the Laser Cannon Upgrade where, if a pilot requires a larger vessel but wishes for the craft to be faster, the operator may downgrade the craft's weaponry to add more power to the engines.
