Francis Raleigh stood on the bridge of his ship, strolling around the holotank, the three-dimensional projection of the space around them. His command vessel, the heavy cruiser Illumination, sat behind his two corvettes, the destroyer at the front.
Claxons rang as the computers picked up a spike in energy signatures, showing enemy forces translating in system. A small task force of a heavy cruiser, a corvette and a pair of destroyers had moved in system.
Raleigh moved his ships, refusing the rear to the planet, sending the pair of corvettes in front of the heavier ships.
''Increase forward shielding, and open up the guns.'' Raleigh calmly ordered his men, rushing to react to the new threat.
