[ooc: Straight-up survival horror thread. Attempts at derailment and dickishness will be met with zombie swarms. You have been warned, mwuahahaha! >:3

I'll close the thread after 2 or 3 people have joined, to keep things small and fast-paced. I'll also make an ooc thread if requested.]

There's something to be said about mountains. Mighty and majestic snow-capped peaks with jagged rocky outcroppings, mountains are a gorgeous and ever-present facet of the landscape on many a world. They appear idyllic, even peaceful. Between the broad shoulders of mountains lay fertile valleys, as serene and beautiful as the great peaks they are nestled between.

One such valley, covered over with deep layers of dry and fluffy snow, was the home of a Ski Resort. Not just any resort, but the private retreat of Professor Mieru; a 'mad scientist' known for his illegal research into cybernetics. He'd passed away years ago, but people were still digging up the remnants of the madman's half-baked projects... Remnants that, all too often, were as lethal and angry as they'd been while Mieru was still alive.

The Resort was a three-story structure, built of fine wood and sturdy timbers with steel trusses for support and extra strength, was dusted heavily in snow. Its rustic appearance was almost entirely concealed by deep snowdrifts surrounding it from all sides. Clustered around the resort was a host of outbuildings, ranging from a vehicle garage to generator building to a ski-lift. All were buried within the deep snow.

The complex appeared, like the mountains embracing it, peaceful.
But looks can be deceiving.

The sun had sunk past the horizon and the moon had risen, bathing the valley in silvery light that reflected off the crisp white snow. Visibility was, thankfully, excellent. The weather, however, was decidedly bitter. While the wind had died down to a gentle breeze long ago, the air was incredibly frigid. It was an oppressively dry sort of cold, the kind that chilled a man to his very core.

Needless to say, Setsuna and Riku Teruyoshi hated it.

"Setsuna Teruyoshi, I hate your guts right now," Riku growled. The Farghul was shivering as he trudged through the snow, despite being bundled up in a heavy black-and-white camouflage hooded parka and his usual brownish-tan armored vest. Setsuna just laughed. "I told you to wear an insulated body suit. You should've listened," he said cheekily. Riku -for once, not wearing his gas mask- rolled his eyes and cursed his brother under his breath.

The Farghul twins were on Corellia for one purpose, and one alone: A relatively wealthy Corellian native had contacted them and asked them to investigate the ski resort. Over the course of the last few months, a handful of skiers in the area around the resort had disappeared without a trace. Even their distress beacons were never found. Among the disappeared skiers was a newlywed couple, who had gone missing only a day ago.

The pay was very generous. A quarter of a million credits would go to each man who helped bring her back. The man who had hired them was clearly desperate; the sweep conducted of the area by sensor-equipped CorSec vessels had turned up nothing but the power signature of the Resort's fusion generators. He wanted his daughter and son-in-law back safely, that much was clear.

Because of his desperation, there was little doubt in Setsuna and Riku's mind that he had contacted and hired other individuals like themselves. They knew they needed to hurry if they were to stand a solid chance of retrieving the couple before anyone else. They also knew that something wasn't quite right inside the ski resort; that was why they had set their armored speeder down at the entrance to the valley, and proceeded the remaining two miles in on foot.

As they approached the outer limits of the complex, Riku and Setsuna both removed their rifles from their backs and brought them into a ready position. They chambered rounds and set the safeties on, ready to be flicked off at a moment's notice. Riku sniffed at the air, then sneezed as the cold stung at his nose. The feline sniffled and rubbed his nose with his glove. "Got the sniffles, bro?" Setsuna queried.

Riku's response was a single-finger salute. He sniffed the air again -more cautiously this time- a moment later, then wrinkled up his snout. Something didn't sit quite right in the air. He couldn't put his finger on it, but something just felt wrong. "I got a bad feeling about this," he muttered, tail -bundled in a soft, insulating material- swaying awkwardly behind him.

"You've got a bad feeling about everything" Setsuna retorted. "C'mon, we're only fifty yards away. Let's walk up one of the snow drifts and kick our way in through the second or third story."

"No, seriously Setsuna," Riku said, "I've got a kriffing bad feeling about this. Something doesn't sit right. I can feel it."

"Gods, do you want me to hold your hand or something? C'mon, Riku; quarter of a mil credits apiece if we pull this off! Can the 'disturbance-in-the-force' babble and get your butt in gear!" the other Farghul replied sharply.

Riku sighed and grumbled and watched as Setsuna jogged ahead through the snow. He dragged his feet for a couple seconds, then jogged after Setsuna. They closed the scant few remaining yards to the main building in a few seconds. They began ascending a snow drift on the southern face of the U-shaped resort, at the end of one of the building's 'arms'. "Wish it hadn't snowed this morning," Setsuna remarked. "Only tracks that are gonna be around here are our own."

Riku shrugged and finished scampering his way to the top of the drift, which reached the second ledge of the building. "I think the corner of the building has enough handholds for us to climb it. Let's get to the third floor and enter there."

Setsuna nodded in agreement and moved to the corner while placing his rifle back on his back. Luckily he had the snowdrift and the ledge of the building to stand on, so it was an easy move. He hopped up onto the corner of the building, where sturdy wooden boards had been battered loose by a decade of fierce snowstorms and no maintenance. Using the boards and exposed interior support struts as hand and foot holds, the Farghul quickly ascended to the third floor.

He side-stepped along the ledge of the third floor to the nearest window, then produced a combat knife and roughly punched in the window. The noise of glass shattering echoed around the complex and caused Setsnua to wince. "Oops." He shrugged, then kicked in a few shards of glass, then stepped inside. Riku appeared behind him a few seconds later, rifle back in arms.

"You're about as stealthy as a Cathar doused in napalm at a wedding," Riku stated teasingly.

Setsnua gave Riku yet another single-finger salute and took a few steps inside. "Right, we're in. Looks pretty abandoned; lots of dust everywhere and cold as hell. Let's sweep this floor and work our way down to the basement. Maybe we'll find something."

Little did either of them realize that the Resort had plenty of dark secrets hidden away within and below it; secrets that liked to come out and play when intruders were about...

Albedo Apeiron walked through the snow. He hated the snow. At least his coat was keeping him warm.

Albedo had come to the resort for a purpose. There were rumors that the late Professor Mieru had been working on a device that could target Force users, tracking down hostiles. He had thought about bringing his ysalimir along but the cold was not good for the creature's health. Instead, he went in alone.

As Albedo walked, he heard two voices. Albedo crawled up a snow bank to notice two Farghuls.

Security? wondered Albedo.

Krya Strax lowered her sniper rifle. She had been peering through the scope, trying to figure out why there were already three other people here before her. She figured that the wealthy man probably was desperate to get back to skiiing. All she cared about was the cash though. Krya strapped her sniper rifle on to her back and checked her gear. She had the rifle, two pistols, and a vibro blade. Seemed like it would be enough. Krya slid down the hill and began to walk towards the building. She noticed the twins climbing up the building, and perceeding to break in through a window. She followed his league, and climbed up to the third floor. She came through the window and began following the twins, silently, but efficiently.

Crack!

Riku and Setsuna froze in place. They were halfway down the 'arm' of the building now; Riku hurriedly finished buckling down his helmet and face mask, while Setsuna's ears were perked in a desperate attempt to locate the source of the noise. Both thumbed off the safeties on their assault rifles and swept the hall in front of them; it was pitch black, and though their feline night vision helped them to see through the darkness, it would still be all too easy for something to hide in it.

"You see anything?" Setsuna whispered.

"Not a damned thing," Riku replied. "Maybe we're just hearing things?"

"No," his twin stated, "I heard something, I know it. That was a timber breaking. Someone broke something on this floor, I... It's right ****ing there, shoot it!"

Riku strained for a moment to see what his brother had spotted before he located the target. There was a black, amorphous blob, heading straight for them with little leaps and bounds. It shook and shivered, beady red eyes shining in the darkness with deadly intent. His heart lurched into his throat as he lifted his rifle and squeezed the trigger, at the same time as Setsuna.

The staccato chatter of automatic weapons filled the air. The deafening muzzle blast of the rifles and the plumes of smoke and fire spurting out the barrels lit up the darkness of the corridor. Brilliant green tracers streaked through the air, but the determined little blob avoided every round. Even as showers of wood particles and plaster board erupted all around it, it bravely rushed forward, faster and faster, until finally...

...It ran right past the twins. They held their fire, turned, and watched as the little thing went bouncing along fast as it could. As it moved into the light, two big floppy bunny ears and a little knubby tail became visible. The hapless rabbit squeaked in pure terror as it bounded out the broken window. It burrowed into the snow when it hit, then dug its way out. The soot that had marred its mottled gray fur washed out in the snow and the creature went on its merry way, fleeing the crazy kitties as fast as its little bunny legs could carry it.

Dumbfounded by their mistake, Riku just pointed dumbly in the direction the rabbit had gone. "Setsuna, was that... Is that... Did we really just try to shoot a kriffing rabbit!?"

"Not. One. Word," Setsuna growled, shaking his head. Riku sighed, and, after affixing flashlights to the bayonet lugs of their rifles, the two headed deeper into the shadowy structure. While no more killer rabbits awaited them, something far, far worse now lurked deep beneath their feet. And, thanks to the racket they'd just caused, that terror -or, more accurately, horde of terrors- was now wide awake and chomping at the bit to get their taste of blood.

((OOC: Yes, an ooc thread might be a good idea.)

The chance to explore and discover, that was Chido's incentive as he followed the pair of tracks from the armored speeder. 250,000 credits was just a plus to the Rodian, albeit a much needed one. What he really craved was discovery, to find something no one else had seen before. His heart sank when he realized that he had been beaten to the site by others, probably sent here on the same errand he had been tasked. He retrieved his equipment and left his own speeder nearby as he started his hike, following the tracks that seemed to correspond with the route he had chosen.

Chido empathized with his client. The poor man was missing family up here and was needless to say quite worried. The rodian had heard stories about these woods, strange projects of a crazy scientist were nothing to shake a stick at. There had also been several disappearances in this region recently. Chido relished in the danger, for nothing worth discovering came easy. He was hoping to find something left from the scientist's experiments. And if he didn't find anything particularly pleasant, at least it would be something new. Never-the-less, Chido kept his senses sharp.

The Rodian explorer tightened his fur-lined hood as the wind picked up. Only 2 pairs of tracks could be seen in the snow all through the 2 miles of woods from the speeders, but now as he reached the Ski Resort, a third appeared, following the first two up a snow bank to the wall of the building. Looking up, Chido noticed a broken window on the third floor directly above the tracks. This wasn't a competition for money, they all had been promised the same amount as long as you "helped bring her back." The more the merrier.
Chido climbed the wall and followed into the building, following the wet footprints on the floor and making no effort to stay stealthy. No sooner had he taken 4 steps into the building did he hear gunshots ringing through the hallway. A moment later, a small rabbit ran past him, startling him as he drew his own blaster rifle and switching on the attached flashlight. After a moment, he laughed at himself and whoever was before him for their jumpiness. Lowering his hood, Chido set out after them, looking in corners and at the walls for any sign of heat signatures.

"Hullo?" he called into the darkness with a faint Rodian accent, hoping to find potential companions.

Krya hears the rodians voice carry through the hall way. She drew one of her pistols, and began to move away from the jumpy twins and closer to this trusting rodian. Once she turned a corner, she saw him standing there, perfectly open. She thought about her options. She could shoot him down, and loot his corpse. Or she could ensure protection against whatever was kidnapping people, and the pair of felines. She walked out of concealment, and directly in front of the rodian. She reached out a hand.

"Hello there, Krya Strax is the name"

Albedo wondered who was actually there. When one of them introduced themselves, Albedo guessed they weren't security. Security would have just blasted whatever they heard.

Albedo rose from his hiding place. "Nice to meet you, Krya. I'm Albedo."

----------------------------------------------------------------------
In the distance, a ranger named Barrel neared the resort. Word was that there were trespassers. He wasn't going to let that happen. He would arrest anyone he saw.

OOC: Barrel's a Lamia NPC, so he can die anytime. Anyone's free to write his death, but I think it would be best to let one of the 'horrors' do the deed.

Albedo startles Krya, causing her to pull her other blaster on him. The saftey was switched on though, which gave time for Krya to adjust herself. She figures the larger a group, the easier it is to blame others for mistakes.

" Well, nice to meet you. "

Albedo sensed the dark intentions of the Krya. He noted to keep an eye on her. She didn't seem Force sensitive, so she wasn't Bogan, Jedi, or one of the many Force cults. She might be a thief or assassin, he guessed.

"So, what brings you here?" inquired Albedo.

"Boredom," Albedo replied, noting the woman holstering her weapons. "I heard rumors about this place and thought I'd explore the place."

((ooc: OOC Thread))

Chido smiled as two heat signatures rose and introduced themselves. As they entered into the light, he could identify more detail on each. One was a heavily armed Nautolan female with striking features. The other was a ghostly white Human with an almost plastic smile. Chido lowered his hood and the cloth covering his "snout" and took her hand and shook it, then turning to the human and did the same. The action had left a faint pheromone secretion on both of them. The Rodian's personal odor was uncharacteristically faint for his kind and would be undetectable by either of these species. He, however, would be able to smell them for the next little while until the mark wore off. By that time, he would be familiar with each of their own scents. "Chido Roolek's the name," he said cheerfully in his faint accent, "Here for the adventure, though the credits don't hurt."

The rodian took note that this seemed to be the first time that these two had met. These werent the tracks he had followed from the Speeders. Glancing at the pairs feet momentarily, he noted that Krya's boots were freshly wet and were the same size and shape of the tracks that converged on the original sets. Albedo's boots seemed fairly dry and he had seen no other tracks outside to match the human. How long had he been here?
"You two werent shooting at that poor rabbit, were you?" Chido inquired, chuckling a bit. He could just make out 2 more heat signatures deeper in the building.

Setsuna hissed as his ears continued to ring. He barely hear after that barrage! He smacked himself on the side of the head, but it didn't dispel the chime sounding off inside his skull. "Setsuna!" Riku growled, "SETSUNA! I hear something behind us! We gotta move, c'mon!" Unlike Setsuna, Riku always wore special earplugs that automatically dampened any excessively loud noise, while allowing quieter sounds to make it through. As such, his hearing was perfectly intact.

"WAT," Setsuna all but yelled, "I CAN'T HEAR YOU, BRO, I'M KRIFFING DEAF!"

Riku growled. "You are an idiot," he muttered. He reached out and seized his twin by the collar of his plate carrier and dragged him forward. Setsuna yelped and flailed as he was dragged off, and cursed Riku for being the stronger of them. After they'd made it a good distance down the hall, putting some ground between themselves and whoever had been speaking near the building's entrance, Riku turned to Setsuna and produced his spare pair of auto-dampening earplugs. "Put 'em in."

A growl slid past his lips as Setsuna started to protest. "Don't argue, just do it!" Riku snapped.

"Okay, okay! Gods, who put your panties in a knot?" Setsuna fired off as he plopped in the earplugs.

Riku gestured with his thumb back in the direction of the 'entrance'. "I heard someone chattering behind us. We've got company. No idea if they're friendly or not, so let's keep moving, mmkay?"

Behind them, the end of the structure began to creak and groan under the weight of the heavy snowdrifts on the roof. The supports near the motley group's point of entry began to buckle under the stress, then, with a tremendous crash like that of thunder, they gave way. Wood splintered and steel groaned as the roof collapsed in behind them, completely blocking off the group's only easily accessed exit. There was only one way to go now: Forward.

"It wasn't me," answered Albedo. He glanced at Krya to see if she was the culprit. He then mentioned, "I saw two Farghuls earlier."

The weight of the snow caused entrance to cave in with snow. Albedo coughed as snow blew past them from the burst.

"This isn't good," commented Albedo.

" I've got a bad feeling about this, but it seems like we have to move on. Scope out for an exit as we go. "

Krya begins to walk down the hall, looking for any evidence or exits as she goes.

"Two farghuls huh?" Chido managed to say before the roof behind him cracked and collapsed under the weight of the snow. Startled, the rodian jumped forward away from the debris. After regaining his composure, Chido chuckled, "Sorry about that, shouldn't have had those Gammorean beans last night."

The Rodian returned to his previous thought process. Two Farghuls, that fit the tracks he had followed. He glanced at their heat signatures which were slowly growing fainter as the two moved further into the building. "Do either of you have any information about the missing girl?" Chido inquired, also starting to walk further into the building, his rifle held lazily in his hands.

Albedo gave a confused look. A girl? There were rumors that something had happened, but Albedo hadn't heard what it was. He guessed, from the Rodian's remark, that some girl went missing or died.

"Sorry, but I haven't," replied Albedo.

At the rodians remark, Krya got a little nervous. If he came after the case, knowing how dangerous it was before he came, then this man probably was more deadly then he liked to show. Krya turned to him.

" Haven't heard a thing yet, but that's why I've come to check the place out. "

Krya looks back at the debris blocking their way out, and then forwards down the dark hallway.

" it looks like were going to have to continue investigating in the lower stories of the place, let's go. "

Nodding, Chido followed. He could still see the faint heat signatures of the two farghuls up ahead, but they were growing fainter. The rodian walked carelessly down the hallway, every once in a while glancing down at the still wet boot-prints to guide his way. He came to a hall with shot-marks allover the place. This must have been where the pair had been startled by the rabbit. He didn't blame them, this was a creepy place. Chido decided that he might have some fun and get to know more about these new companions as they gained on the Farghuls.

"Well, with all this our freinds up ahead probably scared all the 'monsters' off. I doubt we will encounter anything other than wildlife. The residents most likely just lost power and froze." Chido reasoned nonchalantly. Then added in a slightly more devious tone, "Unless of course, you believe the stories..."
