A mixture of screams and blasterfire echoed across the battlefield, blanketing the normally-serene jungles of Yavin in utter chaos. The attack on the Jedi homeworld had been a carefully planned affair, meant to catch their enemy off guard. There was no question whether Vahliri would participate in the battle, and had volunteered herself to lead an assault on the southern entrance of the temple.

Her objective was to cut off any delayed reinforcements to the main assault, and ideally flank the Jedi deeper in the temple. Marching down the ramp of her shuttle, Vahliri immediately allowed her gaze to sweep the field - cautiously anticipating any defender who stepped forward to meet her.

The half-Annfyn was adorned in her signature red-and-black robes, dark hair pulled back into an elaborate braid that draped down the center of her back. She wore the Crystal vambrace on her left arm, while the hilt of her first saber was grasped in her left. She deliberately went without a hood or helmet, features on full display.

Though the squadron of troopers began to fan out behind her, Vahliri kept in tight formation with her apprentice. The Acolyte had promised herself to the Sith once more, and Vahliri intended to test that loyalty on the battlefield.

Theme
“Show them no mercy,” Vahliri said to Celeste, her voice cold and unfeeling towards the task ahead.

True to her word, the half-Annfyn moved with deft efficiency - her crimson blade moving to cut down the first Resistance soldier that came within her reach. She didn’t slow her march the entire way, moving through the chaos to close in on the Temple.

The day had come when Celeste had to prove her unreserved loyalty in an actual battle...and it was not just any battle. Yavin, an important Jedi base was getting invaded and Altair and Varyn had made it possible. Vahliri was leading an assault at the southern entrance of the temple and Celeste was actually relieved that the Champion had allowed her to come along. This was her time to prove herself again and she was absolutely ready.

She left Vahliri's shuttle right after the Champion, clad in her Imperial armor of black and crimson, her crimson bladed lightsaber's hilt in her right hand and her hair braided so that it wouldn't get in the way. Additionally, she was wearing a mask that covered her full face, so that her identity would stay concealed for now.

"Absolutely not" she curtly replied without hesitation, the duo moving further into the temple while rather effortlessly cutting down the first few who dared to get in her way. There was chaos all around, desperate screams, wild blaster fires and in the distance the sounds of heavier cannons, but Celeste couldn't have been any more focused on what laid ahead.

Tazlen was helping with evacuations when reports came in of more Sith arriving at the flank of the temple. It was him and a padawan here and he looked at her. He wanted to tell her to run, but she was already moving in that direction. In the end, he sighed and nodded to her, “Stay near me the entire time, all right?” Tazlen said, “I may not be able to stop you from fighting, but hopefully I’ll keep you from dying,” He flashed a smile. He wasn’t one to offer comforting words - she knew what she was signing up for.

With that, the Jedi stormed outside, drawing a saber hilt to his right hand while the other remained clipped on his belt out of sight. He wore no armor, but he was adorned in a standard Jedi tunic. Right away, he spotted Sith cutting through soldiers in their path. Tazlen arrived closer and used the Force to send a wave of soldiers flying off to the side to toss them out of harm’s way. This would open up a line from the Sith to Tazlen and the Jedi Padawan.

“Hopefully your fighting skills are better than your diplomacy,” He said as he strode towards Vahliri, making it clear he was not afraid of her. She may have saved his life once, but he wouldn’t hesitate to chop her to bits before she ever got anywhere near the temple. Such was the reality of war. In another time, perhaps they could have even been friends.

Tahiri nodded in response to Tazlen's words. She knew her own abilities, and she knew the sort of responsibility that put on the Knight. So she knew better than to argue or make some cocky comment about being able to hold her own. She knew the risk she was taking, but she was a Jedi, and it was what Jedi did. "Roger that, I'll try not to die, or get you killed." She returned the grin with one of her own, despite the excited tension that she was feeling.

Following Taz out the hangar, pulling a lightsaber into her right hand as well, though leaving it unlit for now, she wasn't as quick to react as Taz, who immediately studied the battlefield and figured out a course of action. But once he did jump into action she was quick to respond and support him. She reached out with the Force as well, and supplemented Taz's move by yanking the lead soldier backwards, so that he and some of the others he was pulled back into moved not just to the side but also backwards and away from the Sith, adding even more distance between them. The move still left an unobstructed path between the Jedi and the Sith, down which she followed Taz towards the two Sith.

Falling in step besides him, keeping about six feet to his right, she said nothing as they moved towards the Sith, her blade finally springing to life in her hand.

Celeste was rather unbothered by the waves of resistance soldiers that dared to step into their way and she kept sweeping them away or struck those down who actually had the courage to engage her. There were blaster bolts that constantly flew their way, but she either dodged or blocked them with her lightsaber, while blaster bolts came shooting back from their side to answer the incoming fire.

Screams of frightened padawan and other Jedi filled the halls, but it seemed like the majority was fleeing, which was good. Still, it didn't take long and there was suddenly a sharp-eared male Jedi and a slightly younger, blonde woman who approached them rather confidently.

Without wasting any time, the man with the silver strands of hair shot a passive aggressive comment Vahliri's way, which only made Celeste scoff. Oh, so those two had already met. How convenient that there paths were crossing again...However the Jedi was obviously right when he mentioned that this here had nothing to do with diplomacy...

The Jedi walked in formation, the woman right across from her and not far off the other Jedi, but Celeste wasn't planning on making any hasty mistakes. She had trained for all of that in the last couple of months and she was ready. Staying right next to Vahl, her gaze was fixed on the blonde woman when she hissed, "Out of our way". Without waiting for a reply, she reached out with her left hand and sent a strong, determined Force push her way that was supposed to knock her off her feet and hurl her backwards. She was aiming right at her chest and was not letting either of them out of sight, while she was attempting to bring some distance between the two Jedi at first anyway.

Vahliri kept her eyes fixated onto the temple ahead - cold indifference settling across her countenance. With her sensitive hearing, she was acutely aware of every scream and cry from both sides, and the half-Annfyn didn’t allow any of it to bother her. Such was the reality of war - the necessary sacrifice and pain, in order to achieve their goals. The fall of Yavin brought them one step closer to ending the war. One step closer to a Galaxy, peaceful and secure without the Jedi.

She didn’t acknowledge when Celeste spoke. Instead, Vahliri watched as the rest of the soldiers were pushed away - revealing Tazlen and the Padawan waiting for them. At once, her expression grew a touch more grim. It a way, it was fitting that Tazlen was the one to stand against her.

The half-Annfyn’s blade tipped towards the ground, carving a molten channel across the tiles as she walked. “I did promise to demonstrate, didn’t I?” She said calmly, making clear reference back to their first meeting at the Festival. Whatever their past interactions, Vahliri knew the duty they both had - and would follow through without hesitation. In another life, perhaps they could have been friends or more. But such was not the reality they lived in.

As Celeste moved to engage the Padawan, Vahliri continued towards Tazlen without fear - her saber tipping up and into a defensive guard in front of her body. She was prepared for any ranged attack that Tazlen might launch towards her, but her intention to close the distance was clear. The moment Tazlen came into her reach, Vahliri shifted into a side-face stance, her right foot stepped forward. Her saber carved in a diagonal slash, attempting to cut through Tazlen from his left hip and belly.

Her left hand lingered close to her side - keeping balance, and prepared for whatever Tazlen did in response.

Tazlen kept the padawan in his peripheral vision, but his primary focus was Vahliri. As she closed the distance, he didn’t stop her approach. Instead, he flashed a fanged grin as she did so, “Looking pretty cute in that fit,” He called out, “And you did your hair just for me?"

As her blade came at him, Tazlen acted accordingly. His saber met hers in a bladelock as he held it at a 45 degree angle, but he didn’t stop there. He slid his blade along the length of hers, swiftly moving into her guard and up real close. His saber targeted her hilt to slam into it and destroy it or the fingers holding it. His left hand was gathering the Force, wary of that shiny gauntlet she wore in her left arm. His goal was to disarm, not kill. Because he was inside her guard, even the dual phase wouldn’t help and he was too close for her to swing her blade effectively without distance.

Tahiri ignored the Sith's comment, but she didn't ignore everything else that went with the comment. Raising her hand to channel the Force through it, pointing it straight at Tahisi, it was a choreographed move that she had seen on many an occasion in the numerous holo-recordings of other fights between Jedi and Sith. She didn't wait for her to finish the move to see what would happen, instead as Celeste's hand was coming up to unleash the attack Tahiri took a leaping step to the right.

Having pulled off the greatest of all Jedi moves, the side-step, to avoid the attack, she wasn't holding back. Even as her foot landed she followed up by rushing forwards, now approaching the sith from a diagonal direction to the Sith's front and left. With the Sith holding her blade in her right hand, now opposite to the direction Tahiri was approaching from, the padawan would swing her blade in a diagonal slash once in range. With Tahiri's blade swinging in an arc from her own left and down, to right and up, The intent was simple, strike at the Sith on her exposed left side where her left hand was raised from her unsuccessful Force attack.

Celeste could already hear how the lightsabers of the other duo collided, while the blonde woman evaded her Force attack with a simple sidestep. A slight smirk crossed her lips as she began to run, as Celeste was more than ready to answer her opponent's counterattack.

Since there was still some distance between them, Celeste had retracted her exposed hand and slightly pivoted her body to her own left, so that she was turned towards the attacking Jedi and directly facing her. As her lightsaber swung in a diagonal arc from the Jedi's down left to up right, Celeste had enough time to dodge the swing by stepping back with her right foot, so that her body simply moved out of the way of the diagonal arc and the blade cut through the air.

She would, however, not wait for her to fully continue the swing, but take advantage of her opponent's movement. As soon as the lightsaber was swung past her, she moved forward with the right leg again, to put more weight behind the stab she was executing directed at her ribs. Due to her swing, her right side was slightly exposed and since her blade was still continuing the diagonal arc upwards from her first strike, Celeste intended to quickly use that against her.

So with fierce determination she stabbed forward in an attempt to stab her opponent right through the chest. It was unlikely that she would be able to block the blade in time, since her lightsaber was still moving up, and with Celeste's eyes attentively watching her opponent, she would see another counterattack coming in time, if she would somehow manage to start one before that.

More importantly, Celeste was pushing the button that would activate the dual phase in a split second, so that the extended lightsaber would make it even harder for the Jedi to get out of this situation unharmed with the additonal one meter added towards the blade's length that would need some adjustment time for the Jedi, while Celeste was additionally ensuring that she stayed out of her reach while having her in range though.

Despite the severity of the setting, Vahliri couldn’t help the smirk that began to tug at the corners of her lips - amber eyes glinting almost playfully beneath the ferocity. “Well of course - only the best.” She quipped right back, head tilting ever-so-slightly in Tazlen’s direction, almost appraising the man before her. “Lookin' pretty good in that tunic yourself. You trying to distract me, Tazlen?” The words rang out - a split moment before they reached each other on the field of battle.

She immediately grit her teeth when Tazlen tilted his saber to block - weight leaned forward as the half-Annfyn pressed against the dueling blades of plasma. Opposing flashes of azure and crimson cast across her dark features, fluted ears flicking back and flattening against the sides of her skull. Whatever their history, Vahliri knew there would be no hesitation from either of them.

As such, the half-Annfyn acted accordingly when Tazlen moved into her guard. With a rotation of her wrist, Vahliri swiftly dipped her saber in a clockwise rotation from right to left. Layered beneath the blue lightsaber, her own blade crossed underneath and ended on the inside of their bladeblock - clashing against the middle of Tazlen’s own as she pressed outward. Her aim was to parry the Jedi’s blade to her own right, crossing guard and preventing the immediate disarmament he attempted.

While her left hand had lingered at her side, only now did Vahliri spring forth. As Tazlen stepped in close, the half-Annfyn whirled her fist into a punch towards the Jedi’s ribcage before snapping back with lightning speed - the Force channeling through her body and into the strike. The blow carried enough power to fracture and crack bone, and likely send the Jedi reeling backwards if it landed.

“Is it working?” Tazlen quipped back as their fight began. She did a roll of her wrist to reposition her blade and push his outwards. The Jedi was more focused on her left fist whirling in. Tazlen quickly switched off his weapon, which would send her right blade swinging outwards slightly from the lack of friction of the saberlock since she had been pushing out against his blade.

While Tazlen could have ignited his saber into her heart, he instead reignited it to swing in a clockwise arc. This meant that her fist collided harshly against ribs, but it would also ensure his saber would cleave right through her upper bicep to take that arm off entirely. As she was no Matukai or hand to hand expert, a punch like the one she was attempting would require her to whirl in full force with her arm. There was no withdrawing that arm in time, just like there was no way for Tazlen to avoid getting punched in order to be close enough to take the arm off that close to the shoulder.

The force of the punch sent him reeling back and skidding across the ground, raspy breaths escaping him. He had several cracked ribs and a massive bruise, his breathing labored. But he made a calculated defense in turn.

As Celeste stepped back to avoid Tahiri's swing, the padawan reacted. The Sith's intended plan to step back and then step forwards against to attack with a stab would not be instantaneous, time enough for Tahiri to react. Planting her right foot, and drawing in the Force to enhance her movements, she pulled her left foot backwards to rotate about the other foot, effectively swinging her body from facing the Sith to be perpendicular to her. But despite her efforts she could not avoid the attack entirely. The stab grazed past her chest, burning pain passing in a hot line across the front of her chest.

But she continued stepping back, and followed the initial pivot with a step back to add distance between herself and the blade. At the same time she summoned her second blade into her left hand and it sprang into life, pointing up and forwards, ready to block the Sith's blade if it came swinging back at her.

For better or worse, Vahliri was fully committed to her attack. While her crimson lightsaber parried outward, her fist whirled in to collide with Tazlen’s ribs - landing exactly where intended. Of course, it meant that the half-Annfyn’s arm was perilously extended, and there was no blocking the lightsaber that swung to cleave through her upper bicep. No attempt was made, and she could only grit her teeth in response.

She instinctively took a step backwards as azure flashed across her field of vision - just as Tazlen was sent skidding. Brief sensations of heat flashed across reconnected nerves, and vanished not even a second later - as the prosthetic arm dropped freely to the temple ground. Roughly the same place that Caelian had removed her arm the first time, the half-Annfyn was left with only an inch-or-so of synth-flesh connecting to the rest of her upper arm, wires and circuitry turned molten by the passing saber.

The half-Annfyn couldn’t help the scowl that graced her features. It was better than losing her remaining organic arm - but it put her at a significant disadvantage all the same. Not to mention, it was beginning to set a trend that she really didn’t like whatsoever.

All the same, she wasn’t out of the fight quite yet. “Not nearly well enough,” Vahliri responded to his early quip, beginning to step towards the Jedi.

As she did so, the Force gathered and flowed through the half-Annfyn’s remaining hand. She briefly lifted two fingers off the hilt of her lightsaber, just long enough to coil her grasp around the severed limb. With a flick of her wrist, Vahliri launched her own arm at Tazlen like a torpedo - aiming to slam it square into his chest. A combination of crystal vambrace and metal, the limb made for a decent projectile.

And Vahliri would sooner die than give Tazlen an opportunity to hit her with her own fucking arm.

So the Jedi backed down? How typical...

The activation of the dual phase and her thrust didn't have the effects she intended, however her opponent's chest was at least grazed, the crimson lightsaber hissing across her chest, so that Celeste was hoping that the Jedi would suffer from the pain and the her focus would definitely be affected by that.

When she stepped back further and drew her second lightsaber, Celeste was not reinforcing the thrust or trying to end it just there, because she was immediately recalling her sparring sessions with Varyn. Despite that inner rage and determination, she couldn't go all in and lose herself in blind aggression, because even if serving the dark side often meant indulgimg in such raw emotions, she had to be clever about this.

The Jedi immediately switched into a defensive position and even if being in the role of the aggressor had been rather unusual for Celeste in the past, she would not just let the woman run away or anything. There was no time to check on Vahliri, as she had to deal with her own problem in form of the blonde woman right now, and so she did, even if she was wondering whether Vahliri had already dealt with the man she apparently knew.

Celeste quickly backstepped right when she noticed the Jedi did that, too, in order to disengage from the close quarter lightsaber combat, especially because the Jedi was now obviously preparing to block any incoming strikes with the two blades. She wouldn't give her any of that satisfaction though, and thus only let out a scoff as she reached out with her left hand from the new position, a few feet of distance between the two while she attempted to inflict force horror upon her adversary.

Celeste had repeatedly used such tricks of mental manipulation before, and she vividly remembered how she had managed to freak out Laeonas with it on Rattatak, or how she had handled the rebellious group she had encountered with Altair back then...It was a cruel move, entirely deriving from the dark side, which was exactly why Celeste was relishing the feeling of utter power it triggered.

Her lightsaber moved into a defensive position right in front of her body in case the Jedi tried something funny, but instead of following up with another attempted blow, she was trying to strongly mess with her mind. She wanted to stir up terror and dread from the midst of her unconscious and the offsprings of that dark aura would possibly affect everyone in her surroundings. If she wouldn't be able to resist, the woman would experience terrible dread while her mind would force her into sheer hopeless, before panic would take over, that would force the woman to crumble.

While Vahliri would be able to deal with that if she was affected, she knew the Jedi wouldn't, but while she focused on the attack she was obviously not letting the blonde woman out of her sight in case she either darted closer, threw one of her sabers or was preparing to pull another move.

Tazlen felt his saber cut through her arm and he expected to hear a dramatic shriek of pain and for her to drop. The arm came off, and he was met with a thoroughly unamused expression instead. The Jedi was standing at a distance from the last attack, still drawing labored breaths. He only had time to knit his eyebrows together and clearly mouth ‘what the fuck’ as the limb was hurled at him. The projectile shot right at him and collided against his chest, the harsh blow softened slightly only because he grabbed it. If he hadn’t been staring directly at Vahliri, perhaps he wouldn’t have managed even that.

At this point, he could sense the Dark Side and knew Vahliri’s friend was doing some spooky bullshit to the padawan. Without hesitating, he hurled the armored cybernetic full force at Celeste’s head, aiming to slam it directly into the back of it. It would be hard enough to unceremoniously knock her out or, at the very least, completely interrupt whatever movie premier she was subjecting Tahiri to.

“You’re a real pain, you know that?” Tazlen growled at Vahliri, his lips almost tugging at a smile. Without waiting, he sprang towards her for a saber attack, swinging from her lower right hip towards her left shoulder to engage her once more. He wasn’t moving as swiftly as before thanks to the cracked ribs, but her balance would also be off with the sudden loss of the cybernetic as well.

As Tahiri saw the Sith respond to her own defensive reaction by herself taking a step back, she responded by bringing her right arm swinging back down. The arm was still in position after her earlier swing and so as Celeste was stepping back all Tahiri had to do was bring her arm back down towards the Sith. But she did not go for a slash, instead she simply released the blade, sending the blade spinning forward and straight for the Sith.

Even as the Sith was thrusting her left arm forward to do whatever she was planning, the Jedi's spinning blade would come straight for her. The Sith would have to chose between trying to attack the padawan with her mental attack, in which case the blade would likely hit her and make her immediately drop the attack, or turn her focus on defending against the attack and not even manage to start the attack.

In either case Tahiri would have to deal with the attack much more briefly, or not at all, than the Sith intended. And all while the Sith herself was dealing with the blade flying towards her and Taz's cybernetic vahley. All the while her second blade was still held before her, perfectly positioned to defend against any secondary attacks the Sith might try.

Celeste was preparing to launch her attack, but before she could fully focus on the horrors she wanted to inflict on her opponent, the Jedi across from her was throwing her second lightsaber right at her and so she knew she had to react.

Her mental attack was immediately interrupted, with her own lightsaber diagonally held it front of her body and her left hand still outstretched. Since the lightsaber arrived first, flying and spinning at chest height, it was just a matter of making sure that the plasma end wasn't the part that could hit her. Pivoting to the left, she barely avoided being sliced, instead watching the spinning blade crash past her left forearm, grazing it.

Having perceived a strong, violent ripple within the Force she couldn't fully grasp, but it felt so though some medium sized projectile was abruptly coming her way. Stepping in place quickly with the force to avoid being knocked over, she braced for impact. Too late to avoid it, Celeste raised her right arm to try cover her head, the metal object crashing into her right vambrace, cracking it and rendering it useless. A jolt of pain shot up her right arm as the metal object slammed into her, if not for the armor she may have had a greater trauma.

The momentum from the object and the movement she had done to fight them, meant that she was not in a position to immediately attack the blonde Jedi. Pained but determined to not give up, Celeste locked eyes with Tahiri in case the Jedi would do anything further as she pulled herself together.

As the cybernetic was thrown, Vahliri couldn’t help but grin at the look of surprise that etched across Tazlen’s face. Was it unorthodox? Yes. Was it ridiculously petty? Absolutely. And those both constituted a large portion of the reasoning for her attack. The half-Annfyn was standing somewhat awkwardly, still adjusting to the sudden loss of balance - one that came with the territory of losing an entire limb in the middle of combat.

The moment Tazlen caught her arm, Vahliri’s advance forward halted in place. Throwing her own arm was one thing, but seeing someone else throw her arm hit different. There was no masking the look of shock that was left on her expression when the Jedi threw the cybernetic at Celeste. While Vahliri, theoretically, could’ve stopped the throw.. She didn’t.

She trusted Celeste was probably capable enough to handle it herself. As a result, Vahliri never took her eyes off of Tazlen - staring straight at the Jedi as he lunged forward. Her lips almost tugged up into the hints of a smirk when he spoke. “I’m a pain? Have you met yourself?” She said with almost a growl.

Just as Tazlen drew in for his swing, the half-Annfyn drew her left foot behind her - pushing off to take a complete step backwards. Her body shifted side face with her right foot forward, lightsaber held in forty-five-degree angle guard. The combination of her own step backwards and shift in posture aimed to put the half-Annfyn towards the very end of Tazlen’s reach, and ensured that his saber wouldn’t make contact with her left hip. The half-Annfyn had little leverage or balance to push her own offense, but knew that Tazlen would conversely be moving slower.

Vahliri flicked her own lightsaber down in response to Tazlen’s swing - catching the tip against his own weapon. Instead of trying to pin the blade completely, Vahliri followed Tazlen’s own upward swing and trajectory - until the moment her saber crossed in front of the Jedi’s abdomen. With a flick of a button, Vahliri activated the dual-phase feature of her lightsaber - extending the crimson blade an additional meter outwards. She aimed to pierce the blade through Tazlen’s own lower abdomen, impaling through armor and deep into his flesh.

Taz scoffed at her words, “Don’t hate me ‘cause I do everything you do but better,” He shot back as he attacked her.

He didn’t miss how she took a step back and positioned her blade to guard. His blade failed to find purchase, colliding against her own saber while it was angled down. Her saber extension banked on him continuing to push up against her guard enough to level her blade against his body. However, he kept his saber down where he met hers, which meant her saber stayed pointed down and angled away from him to prevent the extension attack. Taz abruptly shifted closer to her, knowing that with her saber pointed down and an arm missing, she was just standing there.

Without warning, his left arm came up as he moved closer slightly diagonal to her right while maintaining their blade lock. He could have done any number of fatal blows. Instead, his hand came in as a full on backhand directly towards her face. A solid bitchslap, if you please. The impact would likely result in a cracked nose and possibly a heavily bruised ego. He would be too close to her for her to effectively use her saber on him right then and even trakata would allow his own saber to pass through and slice her if she tried.

The Sith moved to avoid her blade, and finally the two combatants were directly face to face with each other. As the Sith was hit by Tahiri's flying blade and the projectile launched by Tazlen, (was that the other Sith's arm?), Tahiri had a moment to catch her breath, to focus on the Force and push down on the pain from the earlier hit she had taken and re-center herself. That allowed her to retaliate with a Force attack of her own. Her right hand, now free and having swung down to her side after her blade toss, rotated where it was so that the palm pointed towards the Sith. And from that palm Tahiri let out a sudden burst of Force energy, not to attack the Sith in any direct way, but to momentarily blind her. Using the Force to generate a short pulse of blinding light, she hoped to distract the Sith and create an opening using which she could attack.

With Celeste on the defensive, the sudden attack would very likely make her see stars for a few moments, Tahiri would rush in to take advantage of that period of blindness. With Celeste's blade hand raised to defend against Taz's attack, Tahiri would have a open shot at her torso, and would replicate the Sith's own earlier attack to stab at her stomach with her blade. Moving quickly with the stab to step into Celeste's guard, she would be prepared to either step out of the way or raise her right hand to try and grab the Sith's arm if she tried to bring her blade down to attack the padawan.
