"And coming out of the West Gate is the Mandalorian Lepi Kyp of Clan Vizsla!"

Kyp stood in the sand of the arena as he let the roar of the crowd wash over him. How things had changed. He very distinctly remembered growing up as a street urchin on the mean streets of Coachelle Prime and how people had walked over him like he was trashed. When he'd been taken in as a foundling, the other Mandalorians of Clan Vizsla had mercilessly mocked him for his lanky appearance and foreign status. And now, here he stood in one of the greatest arenas the Sith had surrounded by people chanting his name. This long-eared Mando had certainly come far.

Not that he particularly cared about the Sith, or the Jedi really. He'd worked with both of them before and seen both of them in action and, admittedly, they were impressive but Kyp hadn't come here just to be praised by the Sith. No, he'd come here to spread the prestige of the name Vizsla out there and to further cement his own burgeoning reputation in the mercenary world.

So, here he was against an absolute beast of a human that was about half a foot taller than Kyp and almost twice as heavy. An array of weapons was at this man's side but, from what Kyp's keen eyes could see, none of them were blasters. While it would have been a relatively straightforward matter to just shoot the man, Kyp wanted to give the crowd a bit of a show. After all, they came here for a fight and so did he.

"You know what? Let's make this fair to start!" Kyp shouted to Hrothgar, strapping his rifle across his chest over his shoulder to show that his blaster would not be used this round. Then he put up his fists, his long, lanky arms providing plenty of distance, and started advancing towards Hrothgar's in a boxer's traditional stance. Kyp was a marksman at heart but for one who had grown up Mandalorian and loved street brawls, boxing was something the Lepi was intimately familiar with. No one could say he was a good wrestler but his fists? Speedy, strong and linked to a functioning brain - it was everything a fighter could hope for.

The Arena

Hrothgar had arrived to the tournament, knowing full well he would be outmatched by many of the contestants. The man had been a slave all his life and grew up in the pits. This pit, would be no different. This, was home. As close to any he had ever known. Many names on the list would hide behind the Force, but this match, this one would be fair. The Gods had whispered that to him. Perhaps the arrival would be the truest opponent he had ever faced. Why was he here though? It wasn't for his own glory. It was for Hrist. The Storm Queen. His Storm Queen.

He would stop before the final gate to the arena and kneel, the sounds of cheering well beyond the door. They were for the blood that would be spilled this day. Kneeling in the sand, he would take a handful in his hands and rub his hands together for the grip, sprinkling whatever remained to the floor. The East Gate would open as the drums began to pound loudly.

Hrothgar towered over most. Couple that with his massive size, his scars, tattoos, and war paint, the Gladiator was the visage of death. He had a vast array of weapons on his person, each one carefully chosen over the many years of his life he lived in the pits. Some were trophies, some were gifts. They would determine his success in this tournament.

"FROM THE EAST GATE!!!! THE FREEDOM FIGHTER OF LOOVRIA!! THE DEUCALIANNNN!!!" the announcer would shout, amping up the crowd into cheers. Into a frenzy.

Hrothgar would dig deep as he roared, flexing every muscle possible as he urged the crowd into a full cheer. As his arms lowered to his side, the crowd would quiet for the next introduction. In the pits, Hrothgar had a seen a vast array of species.. But he wasn't surprised for what he saw across the field. The West Gate would open to reveal... a bunny? Not just a bunny. A Mandalorian. More ancient rivalries at play. But this would not be like the slaves he fought, this would be a real Mandalorian. A true warrior.

"And coming out of the West Gate is the Mandalorian Lepi Kyp of Clan Vizsla!"

The bunny had a following, which meant he was skilled. Hrothgar would offer a salute before looking into the stands. "We who are about to die... salute you!" his gaze would then shift back to the bunny, who was discarding his rifle. At that, Hrothgar would undo the buckle of his harness, dropping his weapons to the side.

This one had spirit and the Deucalian could respect that. Size and power meant nothing in a fight, especially against someone with skill. So for this, the gladiator would start slow, see if he could learn anything from the early probe of skill. As the Lepi advanced in a traditional boxing stance, so too would the Deucalian. "You have honor, Vizsla, this will be kept in mind for the end of the fight."

When the two drew near, Hrothgar would be on the defensive. Body shots could hurt, but he was a tank. So softer spots would be guarded. He even crouched a little lower to be more even with Kyp.

Kyp rather liked the cut of this Deucalian's gib. Granted, that didn't much matter too much in a fight; Kyp had killed more than a few people he'd liked in the course of being a mercenary. The man had honor too and looked to be a formidable foe. Size-wise and weight-wise, Kyp was outclassed but his Mandalorian armor would provide more than enough protection in a fist fight to make up for that, as well as making the Lepi's punches hurt a whole lot more.

Activating his shockboxing gloves (the limiters having been installed for less-lethal results today) Kyp would aim a jab with his left at the big man's head, followed by a right hook and then a left hook to the man's body. If the blow impacted with armor, Hrothgar would feel a "bleed through effect" equivalent to an electrical shock that would make focusing a bit more difficult. If the blows landed on exposed flesh, the consequences would be more severe.

"You too, big guy." Kyp said in reply.

Such tech, the Deucalian had never seen. They didn't trust their slaves with such things. Thankfully, Hrothgar was quick enough to pull his head back from the first punch, Kyp's fist just shy of its mark. The armor around his lower torso was enough to pad the first hook, but that bleed through was a shock to the big man. Snarling, his right arm would move to catch the second hook at the elbow before his free hand grabbed ahold of the cuirass and he would twist, launching the Lepi back a few yards behind him.

The heavy armor would make his fists next to worthless in the fight, save for lucky lands on soft spots, which he would have to locate. For now, he would have to use the armor against the Mando. What was protecting him, could be used to hurt him. He just had to get creative.

Kyp grinned underneath his helmet as his fist made impact with them man's lower torso, which was quickly replaced by a surprised expression as he was suddenly launched a few yards behind him. Somersaulting in the air, Kyp was able to come down on his feet but a bit harder than he wanted, to be honest. He shot his grapple line at Hrothgar once he landed, the harpooned end threatening to skewer the Deucalian if he wasn't careful. If Hrothgar managed to dodge the line, Kyp would stop the line from extending any more and, using it as a makeshift whip, lash out at Hrothgra.

So the Mandalorian was agile. He should have expected that based on the speed, though in truth he had never fought a Lepi before. Unfortunately for Hrothgar, he didn't have much time to think, or plan. Just react. His torso twisted as the grapple line skimmed across his chest, the anchor causing a slight cut along his skin.

Fortunately, his opponent had stopped the line, at least long enough for the Deucalian to act. One hand would grab the line and he put all of his force behind a tug, attempting to pull the rabbit to him. If it succeeded, he would aim his massive boot for the chest of the Mandalorian to kick him backwards.

This guy is good

Kyp grunted as his grabbed line was yanked, forcing him to careen towards Hrothgar. Fortunately, Kyp's dexterity and agility kept him upright and he was able to hit the button to manually winch the grapple line back to its launcher. If Hrothgar kept hold of the line, his palms would likely be sliced by the end of the line but if he let the line go, the line being winched back would be strong enough to threaten to unbalance the large Deucalian.

Regardless of what Hrothgar chose to do, the initial yank was forceful enough to send Kyp sailing towards the outstretched foot. Kyp would land on his back. However, he wasn't out of the fight as he'd quickly make his way back on his feet, while grabbing a large clump of sand and hurtling it in Hrothgar's eye.

Hrothgar would hold the line as long as he could until the glint of the anchor caught his eye. Releasing it, would lose a little of his balance after the successful boot. Leaning into the lost balance, Hrothgar would charge, sticking low, and attempt to tackle the Mandalorian as he recovered.

A lifetime of arena battle and the more than occassional sand to the eye had allowed the Deucalian to form some resistance to it. Though of course, it stung like a bitch and temporarily blinded him. That said, he knew his course, so he would stick to it. While his eyes recovered, he could still fight blindly using his ears.

On a successful tackle, he would aim an elbow for the Lepi's throat, trying to listen for any sounds as a hint as to where the target is.

As soon as the Lepi got to his feet, Hrothgar came at him like a two ton sack of bricks. But given the Deucalians recent and temporary imbalance and blinding, Kyp was in a good spot. He was able to squirm and turn with his core strength, aiming to get at least side by side with Hrothgar when they both hit the ground, if not on top of the big man. Regardless of what happened, Kyp would start aiming body and head shots with his gauntlet-powered fists.

Hrothgar could feel the twist of the tackle, which meant the Lepi had enough sense to fight for better positioning. The Deucalian was all but inclined to let him have it. They would hit the sand on their side and continue to roll until the massive gladiator was on his back. He would wait for that first shift in weight to signify the first punch and he would kick one powerful leg up and twist. So that between the knee to the back and the motion of the move he could throw the Lepi from him.

Rising to his feet, he would wipe the sand from his eyes and clear his vision. "Now tell me, Mandalorian.. Do you have skill with a blade?"

"I'll kick your ass with anything you got!" Kyp said as he too got to his feet, gesturing for Hrothgar to throw him a blade if the man felt so inclined to take this fight to the world of steel. Caught up in the cheers of the crowd, the Lepi raised his hands and inspired an even great roar from the people in the stands

Hrothgar would step over to his harness where the weapons lie and unsheathed a rather wicked looking sword and tossed it to the Lepi. "I like your fire. Let us hope the confidence isn't misplaced."

His boot would then slide under the haft of his axe and kick it up to his own hand. Letting out a ferocious bellow, the crowd would cheer ever louder as the fight was heating up. Hrothgar would flourish the weapon a few times before taking a readying stance.

Okay...this might have been a bad idea. Kyp was a Mandalorian and therefore familiar with melee weapons and knew the basics but he was no expert; preferring blasters or fisticuffs. Against a normal person, the Lepi would most probably dominate but against a skilled opponent like this behemoth? Kyp didn't really know how this would fare. Still though, he had to give the crowd a show and he was no coward. A fight was a fight and he'd welcome it no matter what the odds of survival were.

He grabbed the vibrosword from the air and twirled it around a few times for effect and motioned for Hrothgar to make the first move. On the defensive was the way to go; left Hrothgar more open to make a mistake that Kyp could exploit.

Hrothgar would charge the Lepi and though he was on the offensive, his swings were measured, controlled, and never too far from his body in the event of a block. The first several swings were slower to help ease his opponent into the ebb and flow of the fight. After that, the pace would quicken, so too would the technique change.

More power was put behind each swing so in the event of a block from Kyp, he would risk the Deucalians raw strength knocking the weapon free. The combo would then finish with slave rolling past the Lepi with axe used in an attempt to hook Kyps ankle and tug the leg out from under him.

Kyp liked a good fight as much as the next guy. And the Lepi was not without his own personal code of honor; unscrupulous mercenary though he may be. That being said, Kyp felt he had given this behemoth more than a fair fight thus far by electing not to start peppering him with blasterfire. The man was clearly bigger and more skilled at swordplay than Kyp was, which made fair melee combat with him about as fair as a game of chicken between a womp rat and a landspeeder.

That's why Kyp elected to do something a bit unorthodox. As Hrothgar charged, Kyp quickly aimed his wrist rocket at the big man's feet. He didn't want to blow off a leg and cripple so fine an opponent but he did want to burn, daze, and knock over his opponent. As such, it would be extremely difficult for Hrothgar to complete his move without adjustment and after the wrist rocket was fired, Kyp would aim a swing at the man's ankles with the sword.

Tricksy rabbit was tricky. Mid-run, the Mandalorian lifted his arm, never a good sign. Something told him to leap, so he did. A rocket would fire past his legs as he lifted them and somewhere behind him, the blast would propel him forward and slam him into the ground beyond Kyp.

Rolling with the recovery, Hrothgar would pull a dagger and hurl it at the gap of the thigh plate on the Mandalorian before charging. Blood would dot where he had rolled and now he could feel the slickness of the blood beginning to coat his back. This time, he would aim a swing of the axe for the knee, but instead of the blade, it would be the flat side in the attempt to blow it out.

As soon as he saw that Hrothgar went flying with the rocket, Kyp decided to take the kids gloves off and hurl his sword like a discuss at Hrothgar as soon as the man stood up. Either his knife throw would be go forth uninterrupted while the Deucalian was getting impaled or he'd have to dodge or catch the blade. Regardless of what the man did, Kyp would withdraw the rifle from his shoulder and held it like a baseball bat; prepared to whack Hrothgar upside the head with it if the man came near.

As Hrothgar recovered, he could hear the sound of a weapon flying. His axe would move with him, deflecting the launched sword before he hurled his dagger just to the left of the complete for the gap.

Now the charge. A roar would announce it, and as the distance closed, Hrothgar held the axe close to his torso and he would slide at the last second as Kyp went for the swing. Passing by the Lepi, the axe head would be aimed for the ankle, not to cleave it but to hook it.

on a successful hook, Hrothgar would twist the axe to the side to snap the joint.

Kyp fell to the superior fighter. His Mandalorian armor and training was nothing compared to someone that had lived in breathed in the fighting ring. His leg felt very painful and though Kyp managed to bash the man's head with his rifle, he collapsed due to his leg and fell in the pit, leading the crowd to boo and jeer at him and chant loudly the name of the man who had bested him.

"HROTHGAR! HROTHGAR!"
