DESCRIPTION
The ZZ-series astrogator droid is an antique model of pilot droid originally produced by the Hi-Mech Corporation, a specialty droid manufacturer based in the Mid Rim. Active some centuries prior to the Clone Wars, Hi-Mech produced a number of ground-breaking designs which would not be replicated by other droid-makers until decades, if not centuries later.

The ZZ series was one of Hi-Mech's premier designs, a meter-tall pilot droid incorporating a sophisticated cognitive suite for performing high-level pilot duties, as well as an integrated astrogation system capable of emulating a dedicated navicomputer. One of the most capable pilot droids on the market at the time, the ZZ was priced accordingly, and so did not achieve the broad market appeal of other, later models, such as the R2 or 4UM series by Industrial Automaton and Duwani Mechanical Products, respectively.

In most situations, ZZs are adequate pilots. They are not strictly intended for combat situations, but can fight if necessary, being able to handle turrets and evasive maneuvers well enough to get by; there have been reports of ZZs flying starfighters. ZZs excel as co-pilots, paired either with an organic pilot or another droid. Despite their boxy shape, ZZs can fit into most standard shipboard droid sockets.

In the present day, ZZ droids are all but extinct, with remaining examples relegated to museums or private collections, or to the scrap heap.

LEGALITY
Legal. Pilot droids such as the ZZ series are permitted in most regions of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To create a pilot droid for my character, Trini Halrixien, to discover during her first adventure. Compare 4UM-series pilot droid.
