Name: Áilleacht dubh

Biology: The main components of the plant are coloured in black, purple, and a pink-like hue. It's leaves are pink underneath whilst the top are yellow; which are dotted with black spots and tiny black and white hooked barbs. The plant is extremely poisonous. The leaves are coated with a slick oily substance that are fatal to the touch or ingested. The barbed tiny hairs secrete a liquid containing an enzyme that is created from the glands inside the main body of the plant. This enzyme helps decompose it's prey, allowing the plant to soak up the nutrients. The plant has a maximum height of 0.6 meters and width (including the wingspan of the leaves) of 0.9 meters.

Breeding: The plant reproduces asexually, using the nodes on the stems through the accumulation of hormones and nutrients obtained from their food sources. Seeds are created through breeding, dropping to the ground to begin it's transformation upon rooting itself from the onset into the early stages of budding.

Strengths:

1. Highly Toxic: The leaves of the plant, coated in a slick oil-like substance, contains a neurotoxin called tetrodotoxin; which is a potent toxin that causes extreme paralysis. The black spots on the leaves are patches of a bacteria known as pseudomonas, or gram-negative bacteria, that allow the toxins to grow in potency. Also, the toxins attack the central nervous system of it's prey or victims; leading to accelerated dementia and violent epilepsy. The effects of the toxin begin manifesting themselves within the first five minutes; though the time can be changed depending on the capacity of the entity affected. The small insects, rodents, birds, and lizards from which they feed upon can feel the effects almost immediately; where as the physical make-up of of an adult can take longer, depending on weight and personal health.

2. Highly Aggressive: They are violent species of plant, known to dominate and eradicate other plant species around it; sometimes even wild animals.

3. Accelerated Growth Rate:
They grow and bloom at a high rate.

Weaknesses:

1. Light Exposure: The plants thrive in dark and sometimes moist sections like caves or under rock formations. Because of this, direct exposure to sunlight will kill them outright.

2. Life Span: The plant suffers a short life span, ranging from two months to three months. This can be affected by the amount of food source in the area in which they live.

3. Temperament: They thrive in cold regions. Exposure to high temperatures will kill them or prevent growth.

Diet: Insects, small rodents, small birds, and small lizards.

Behavior/Temperament: N/A.

Communication: N/A.

Culture: N/A.

History:

The plant has always been known to the local tribes and wanders of Jedha for hundreds of years, though they never knew what the plant actually consisted of other than having the uncanny ability to bring misfortune to those that touched or ingested it. It wasn't until a scientific expedition into Jedha's regions that the actual properties of the plant was discovered.

With many samples collected, observation and research of the plant began nearly at once. It was in these labs that botanists understood the nature of the plant. It possessed no positive qualities that could be used for medicinal purposes. Agriculturally, the plant could be used to eradicate weeds and other harmful plants or to protect farming products from rodents and birds that fed off the crops.

Through their collective studies, they found by purifying the oil from the leaves by boiling it at a high temperature ( 500 C) then combining it with kolto, they created an antidote to the plant's toxin. However, the only means to distribute the antidote was by way of intravenously.

Planet: Jedha

Technology: N/A.
Intent:

To create a plant species to add to Jedha's environment. Also, for it to be utilized for future submissions.

A couple things:

1. There needs to be an antidote to the toxin. Please include it.
2. More detail needs to be stated about how quick the toxin takes effect.

I changed bacta to kolto for you. Bacta doesn't exist yet.

Approved.
