I'm currently on chapter five in this book and must say its an enjoyable read so far. I'm taking it kinda slow though because I didn't want to miss anything in it. I've heard this and animal farm are Orwell's best books. Any thoughts?

You can see some interesting parallels. For example, the Ministry of Truth is more like the Ministry of Propaganda in the novel, and in todays world you have the Department of Defense and the Department of State which are more like the Department of Offense and the Department of Foreign Affairs, respectively.

I think it's stupid how our foreign affairs department is called the Department of State. It sounds like it would be for affairs within our nation.

Brave New World was a huge letdown for me.

I quite enjoyed it. Of course I wasn't going into it with any expectations, it was simply a book recommended to me by a teacher as a good read.

The world described by Huxley is perfect IMO.

Even if there's no art or emotions, it doesn't really matter in the end, since they were all happy.

1984 was a brilliant book, Eric Arthur Blair's finest. Though, Animal Farm, I found to be quite dull. The prose was just too boring for me.

I couldn't get past the fact that they were farm animals.

Brave New World was incredible. I haven't read 1984 yet, but last year I read BNW and it instantly became my favorite. And the point of the book wasn't that utopia sucks, it was that if you destroy tradition you eliminate human spirit and emotion.

1984 is a favorite. Although I think he was off by a few years ;) we're getting there though. Eerie isn't it?
