As it is of today, the Jedi Temple of Coruscant is a mess of rubble, chaos and destruction. But it was not always like this. Previously to the Bogan attack on the Temple, it was a lively place, full of Jedi, and mainly, Hopefuls. This is the story about a small group of Hopefuls, lived about two years prior to the current state of events.

***

Stretching his short body to what extent he could, Ommar moved slowly as he yawned, feeling his body tensing up just before relaxing totally, making him feel slightly more tired, but more awake at the same time. He was heading towards the cantina with a group of other Hopefuls, and he took a short run to catch up as a Jedi led them like lambs. At this time of the year, Ommar was nervous. He had turned thirteen, and now the chances of becomming a Padawan to a Jedi were getting slimmer. Hopefully it wouldn't take long before he got one.

Looking around on his group, he realized there were a few younger kids, but a few older too. It made him feel nervous again; how much longer would he continue to be a Hopeful? Despite this thought assaulting him, he knew he still had much to learn before being effective as even a Padawan. "By the Force, I am hungry!" Just as that thought hit him, they reached the cantina. Picking up a plate and getting his meal -- a mix meat stew -- he sat alone at a table, watching around to his class mates as they got their plates as well.

Rehni Tak'n was lead individually by a master, she was finishing her extra work for wondering off again. She grabbed her plate and her food and sat down next to Ommar, "Wasing Master of receipt today?" she asked him, knowing he had not been chosen as a padawan like her. She was a year older, yet didn't show it.

Kya hung back away from her fellow padawans, questioning herself for following. She was older than most, if not all, and was not sure how to interact. Her usual bold personality pushed her closer, watching the young ones talking. She would speak if spoken to she decided and began to fiddle absently with her robes.

Ommar was a little startled when Rehni sat down next to him. "Well, you're lively today." He took a few bites out of his meal, looking at Rehni thoughtful, but looking around as well. He wondered how many kids were in his situation; masterless. "Hey, today I got to use a lightsaber! I mean, not a real one, it was a training saber, but it's so awesome!!!" Ommar was excited, at least with that. He was improving, learning the ways of the Jedi, and it was all so new to him, every little thing made his day. "Of course, it's probably nothing compared to whatever you did today..." He spoke in a less audible tone; clearly he felt jealous that Rehni had a Master already.

She smiled at his comment, "Books?" she questioned the word, then thought about it for a moment to make sure it was the right word, "Readings sat me. Thinking Masters tired of me leaving? Thinking finding another for I." she explained in her odd dialect. She looked around the room at the other clans, "Luck in favoring you, quoted, 'danger to self and others', lightsabers cannot play."

Rehni's eyes continued to move around the cantina until she came upon Kya behind her, "Coming, sitting, standing, not walking, relaxing?" she patted a chair next to her as an invite.

"Oh, thank you. I could not help but overhear your discussion. I also trained with a light saber. It was an enlightening experience." She chuckled as she took the seat Rehni had offered. "I think I might have scared anyone watching me with my flailing." She would eat later on, her stomach hadn't settled since that experience.

"Luckieses." mumbled Rehni, she longed to practice with lightsabers. Picking up a spoonful of meat, she tasted it and then spitting it back onto her spoon, she looked at Kya, "Idea of eating not of this good." she told her noticing the girl didn't get any food.

Ommar wasn't phased that Rehni didn't do anything particularly interesting, but she still had a Master while Ommar had a clan. When Kya joined them, he smile at her, then took another bite of his meat. Hearing about her experiences made him chuckle. "Well, I'm not swordsman either. Our exercises were pretty simple. Something wrong with your meal, Rehni?" He observed her spitting the food; odd, his meat was good.

Kya bit back a smile as Rehni spit her food back into her spoon. Maybe she just didn't like meat she thought after Ommar's comment. She decided as her own stomach chose to rumble she would try it herself. She quickly grabbed some food and joined her new companions once more. The food certainly smelled all right.

"Taste not of familiar." she explained then proceeded to push out the meat from her plate. She looked at Ommar, "Master you receiving, not simpling exercies." she told him, "Master you receive, you wills. Masters of many sayes patients" she took a drink to wash out the flavor that sat in her mouth, "Orses you can of Dark Jedi joining," she chuckled, "Whereing alls the impatienting wusses goes." joked Rehni, she knew Ommar was feeling overwhelmed with not having a master, she tried to cheer him up.

Ommar took a break while chewing, looking forth into nothingness. He then turned his head, slowly, to Rehni. "A... a Dark Jedi?" He looked around. "Don't even joke about that..." Ommar was uncomfortable with the idea of becoming a Dark Jedi, though he himself didn't know what a Dark Jedi was; it was merely the term Dark that set him off. "But yeh, I'll get a Master. Eventually." He kept on eating, seeing how Kya got herself something to eat as well.

Kya ate slowly not sure what to say. "If it make you feel any better I don't have a Master either, Ommar."She smiled encouragingly. "It will all work out though. You will be a great Jedi, both of you." She looked down at ther food suddenly bashful. Even after all she had overcame in her life she wasn't sure that she would make it.

Ommar shook his head. "Well, no matter what, I dislike Dark Jedi. It's not by chance that they are Dark; they renounced their ideas and their responsibility towards the Order in exchange for the Force knows what..." Ommar wasn't quite up to date in what were the common goals of a Dark Jedi, but he didn't care much to know either, and that sufficed as an answer to Rehni even if she didn't mean harm. He then faced Kya. "Thanks, Kya. I'm sure you'll be great as well!" He said, lifting his balled fist with his thumb up, his wide smile trying to reasure her; he didn't know her story, howcome was she still a Hopeful? "So, Kya, I believe I never heard about your past... how did you end up here?"

"It's a bit of a long story... but here goes a shortened version." She took a breath in slowly.

"I was stuck in an orphanage on Abregado-rae. Things were not going so well there on the darker parts of the planets. I guess you could say it was a storm that saved me from the orphanage and a generous woman saved me from the storm. She taught me to believe in justice and the Force. I plan on going back there to help one day. But I want to help all the planets and end corruption. So I decided to become a Jedi. As I said, that's a shorter version." She smiled.

Ommar rose an eyebrow. "Wow, that's... quite a goal. I personally don't know why I joined the Order. I just... did. I wanted something better for me than thievery." The words came out of his mouth simple and malice free. For his life experience, resorting to a life of crime in order to survive wasn't that much of a bad thing; it was just something that happened. "I mean, I know why I joined, I just didn't have such a goal as to stop corruption in the galaxy..." He picked up his glass and sipped some fresh water, clearing his throat and easing the warmth and taste of the meat. "What about you, Rehni? Any goals or something?"

Rehni's cheeks blushed, she wasn't one to answer questions like that, it was personal for her. "Willed iting by my brother. Telling me he seeing two paths. He give me one lessing suffer. Honoring it I do. Here I am." she gave the short version also.

"Choosing other life than Jedi would you?" she asked Ommar, "Backing theif raised you return?" she asked him quickly removing attention off of her.

Ommar was almost done with his food when he spoke up. "Well, back home I had to. I didn't see anything else that could help me but to steal. Now I have the Jedi Order, y'know? It beats thievery in everyway..." He meditated on it. To be a thief would mean mostly being free -- no attatchments, no galactic worries... but then again, it'd be selfish and just wrong. "I've made my mind up. I don't think I'll ever leave the Jedi Order." Strong words for someone so young, but nevertheless, words spoken from the heart; Ommar truly enjoyed his stay within the temple.

"Sure-ing you are 'out that is?" she asked playing the rancor's advocate, "Times of some doing not of agrees? Would ofing you leave?" she continued to throw questions in the air. Rehni paused for a moment and gobbled down the rest of her food she did like as she thought about her own questions, "Order doing of what not liking, then of leaving?" she finally concluded to one question of Ommar as she thought about it herself.

Ommar gave it some thought. What if the Order was doing something he did not like? What if the Order actively joined the War, or if it stood by as millions of innocent die? How would Ommar feel about either? But in the end, his answer was simple. "I guess sometimes even Jedi have to get their hands dirty... It is about others, right? We must let go of our emotions and stop thinking about ourselves in order to protect those who look up for us for protection. Ya know?"
