Abbey of the Singularity

Episkeptia-Al, an Oracle of the Abbey

The Abbey of the Singularity, also known pejoratively as the Cult of Savath-Ûn, or simply as the Abbey, is a Force-wielding religion based on the moon of Nagi. Although an old order, the Abbey of the Singularity has never attained legitimized status among the Nagai, and thus tended to be reclusive, isolationist and secretive. Borderline-xenophilic toward 'outsider' cultures, the Abbey take an unorthodox perspective of the Force, viewing it as a material power, as opposed to a spiritual one.

Although their highest devotion lays with the Force itself, those within the Abbey take a steadfast approach toward vibrant intellectual enlightenment and ruthless analytical prowess. Natural curiosity is considered to be to the mind what hunger is to the body, and the Abbey embrace their curiosities, not through the Force itself, but through their understanding and affinity with technology. While shunning the practice of worshipping the Force, and frequently looking down on Force orders and organizations that do, the Abbey of the Singularity revere technology, especially immaterial technological creations and innovations, with a spiritual fervor.

The core belief of the Abbey is the prospective achievement of "the Singularity", namely, transcendence of the physical bodies through the collective merging of individual consciousness as one, into the extradimensonal gestalt. The Abbey believe that the ultimate form of existence lies in forsaking corporeal forms and attaining a form of oneness with what they see as the conduit of technologies, the dimension of hyperspace. Considered outlandish at best, insane at worst, and dangerous to many, the Abbey has often been persecuted for their unusual beliefs, and in turn live away from the rest of Nagai society.

The majority of followers within the Abbey of the Singularity are females, making the Abbey female-dominant. Although considered a Force-organization, the Abbey of the Singularity actually possesses more non-Forcefuls than Force-sensitives. Members of the Abbey are referred to as nuns, with males being referred to as monks. Force-sensitives, as expected, hold the highest positions of authority within the Abbey, and are referred to as Oracles. Force-sensitive males, likewise, hold superior authority in their own right, and are referred to as Prophets. The Abbey as a whole is led by the Cabal, a tribune of three Oracles (Prophets very rarely attain the position). Unlike Oracles, Prophets are frequently armed and trained in combative capacities and assigned as bodyguards, sentinels and watchmen.

Intent: Wanted to create this weird and really 'out there' cult-like religion, almost this reclusive society that has a massive technology fetish and basically even wants to live_in the internet. More specifically, a member of this religion will be an NPC that one of my characters will interact with eventually, and wanted to form the basis of their belief down in writing.
