Personality
Emerald does not follow the Jedi Order blindly, preferring to act as her conscience and understanding of the Jedi Code sees fit, paired with her inability to properly express her views in galactic basic more often than not causes her to look like a fool when discussing matters of philosophy with her peers. This has caused her to feel alienated from the rest of the Jedi ideologically and socially over the years, and she mirrors this perceived isolation in her day to day habits. Rarely spending any prolonged amount of time in Jedi space, on Jedi worlds, or around other Jedi, at least outside of her son Jalen, who was recently promoted to Jedi Knight.
Her independant and introspective nature might not always be for the benefit of others as she isn't one to care about the opinions of most, often seeing such things as irrelevant when not forced to consider them by circumstance. However, Emerald has grown to understand that her perceived isolation might very well be a delusion, or perhaps a mask for something deeper. Seeking to understand her place in the Jedi, she spends much of her time traveling the outer rim, a physical journey to mirror her introspective one, and ironically, subconsciously allowing herself to grow ever distance from the Jedi just as her thoughts and questions so the same.
Morally, she identifies with everything her fellow Jedi seek to uphold, and Emerald has attempted to aid in this mission herself, doing whatever she can to help not only those she comes across throughout her journey, but also aiding other Jedi when the opportunity arises. These encounters with other Jedi tend to be brief however, as she seeks to impart whatever wisdom she can before taking her leave to continue her on search.
There is a growing fear in her that she simply doesn't belong within the Jedi Order, just as she had no place among the Zeison Sha. Perhaps the answers she seeks in the outer rims might prove useful and offer her guidance, but first she needs to locate the questions in the first place. Confused and self-isolating, Emerald has no choice but to return to her fellow Jedi, and hope there is someone among the ranks of the Order that can aid her.
Biography
Born into slavery on Ryloth, Akasha and her mother were freed by a Twi'lek woman just before Akasha's mother died of complications due to the birth. As a newborn on a foreign world with slavers hunting her down, the Twi'lek woman smuggled her offworld and into Wild Space, to the planet Yanibar. It was here that Akasha was raised, among the Zeison Sha. It didn't take long for her innate Force sensitivity to make itself known, and Akasha quickly took to the initial stages of training within the Zeison Sha.
Growing up on the harsh world of Yanibar, Akasha flourished among her new-found family. The natural strength and bestial nature of her Horansi ancestors was apparent from a young age and her Twi'lek mother, Narisa Sulis, encouraged her to utilize her natural survival instincts. This bestial nature, while strengthened because of her Force sensitivity, also left a door within her, opened to the influence of the Dark Side. Narisa had taught her how to use Jedi mental techniques and meditations to help the Horansi cope with, and suppress, her own dark side nature.
A proud and capable hunter and fighter, it didn't take Akasha long to join the ranks of the Zeison Sha as an initiate. It was here, during her early teenage years that she found her family lacking. While their skills with the Force were prominent, Akasha desired for more than a life of simply surviving.
Her mother, Narisa Sulis, had spoken to her over the years of a legendary Jedi Order, one Narisa herself had once been apart of. Her mother's reasons for leaving the Jedi had never been fully explained to Akasha however, and she knew only that her mother had lost someone close to her and couldn't see herself with the Jedi any longer because of it. Despite this, Akasha had always greatly enjoyed the times her mother would talk of her time with the Jedi, even showing the young Horansi some of the techniques she had learned during her time with the Jedi.
Eventually, Narisa died, as all parents do. She had not been a young woman when she adopted the Horansi cub, and old age was something not even the fabled Jedi could hold off. The lost of the only mother she had ever known had not been unexpected, nevertheless, it still took a toll on the, then, teenage Horasni. Akasha had only ever felt any sort of loyalty to Narisa, and with her death she grew more and more unsatisfied with the Zeison Sha.
Unable to advance in rank due to her mixed loyalties and the swirl of the dark side with her own nature, Akasha decided to leave Yanibar, gaining passage aboard a trading ship as extra security. Armed with only her mother's discblade and her own claws, as well as the robes on her back, Akasha made her entrance into the galaxy, knowing nothing of what she would be getting into.
She made her first stop on Ryloth, where, after keeping up with her deal with the traders that got her there, she attempted to hunt down the slavers who had kidnaped her birth mother, while also seeking some form of information about her mother, or just a name of the woman who had brought her into the galaxy. Narisa hadn't told her much about where on Ryloth she had discovered Akasha and her mother, only that it was a an area controlled by slavers. On Ryloth, it would take decades to find the right slavers, if they were even still on the planet, much less alive.
This attempt proved futile however, and Akasha quickly found herself in far over her head. Trapped in an abandoned building, surrounded by a band of pirates and slavers, she was just about to take her own live rather than become a slave once more, when out of nowhere, a voice spoke to her within her own mind. At first she thought it was the voice of Narisa, or even her birth mother, her to guide her at the end of her short life, but that quickly changed as she realized the voice was male, and coming from someone who was very much alive. The man was dressed as a pirate, but wielded a blade unlike any she had ever seen. Almost by instinct, or perhaps foresight, Akasha spoke a single word in response. Jedi.
The weight of that word hit her like a wave of cold water. She lowered Narisa's discblade from her throat, ashamed that she had even thought to taint the memory of her mother with her own blood. The Jedi stepped forward, offering a hand. Together the two of them fought their way out, their combined efforts pushing the slavers into retreat. Akasha pledged herself to the Jedi who had saved her, but he refused her service, instead healing her wounds as best he could and aiding her to his ship to get off world.
Together, they eventually made their way to the Jedi Stronghold on Dantooine, where they parted ways. It was only at this point Akasha realized she didn't know the Jedi's name. Laughing he pointed to his ship, the Eagle's Nest, and told her to call him Eagle. Despite never seeing this particular Jedi again, Akasha has never been able to shake the feeling of importance around their meeting, but was unable to divine any meaning from this.
As fiercely independent as any Zeison Sha, Akasha prefers to keep her personal details to a minimum when dealing with those she doesn't know well, or those she doesn't trust. To this end, very few know her real name, as she goes by her alias, Emerald, even within the Jedi Knights. This slight paranoia and distrust, even towards her allies, paired with her natural affinity towards the dark side, earns her a wide berth, even among those not outwardly intimidated by her immense stature.
Wielding a bit of a cruel strike, Akasha takes great difficulty when it comes to restraint and mercy towards her would-be enemies, two core aspects of Jedi philosophy. Nonetheless, this has made her both a formidable and efficient fighter, but also isolated from her fellow Jedi.
Her personal mentality quite foreign to most Jedi, she was quickly branded a failure by her teachers due to her initial unwillingness to learn the ways of the lightsaber, preferring to use her mother's discbalde, but quickly gave in to the peer pressure for fear of being expelled from the Order, something she is ashamed of in multiple ways. This confliction between wanting to keep to the ways of her mother, but also wanting to be more like a Jedi has led Akasha on an interesting journey, forcing her to reevaluate everything she knows about herself in the process.
Despite everything she has attempted to grow closure to her Jedi peers, she has remained isolated from her peers, estranged from her masters, and ill regarded by her superiors. Frustrated that the Jedi are just as suspicious of her as the Zeison Sha had, Akasha decided to prove herself and her loyalties on the battlefield. To this end she crafted her own lightsaber, a feat that earned her a margin of respect with the order, as well as earning her the rank of knight.
Years she'd spent fighting in the name of the Jedi, not just against the Sith, but any who would seek to harm the innocents of the galaxy. She railed against the dark side and against cruelty until it left her morally raw. She increasingly felt herself slipping closer and closer to the dark side, it becoming harder and harder to control and subdue her beastial instiscts. She aided and trained many of her fellows, always on the look out for the next initiate she could guide in the right direction. But as her own morals drifted from her, so too did her thoughts of the Jedi. Instead she was left with an ache within her chest, at first she thought it to be caused by the destruction of Tython, but then she realized it had been there long before then.
With every initiate she helped come to terms with their own darkness, she felt a growing need to confront her own. When she met Sigal Adi Chume'da on Tython, forcing the poor girl to break down emotionally so she could overcome her grief, Emerald sensed the girl's sadness echo within her own heart, not simply a Jedi's empathy either, something deeper still. When she took the orphan boy named Jalen Kron under her wing, she felt motherhood call to her in a way she never thought possible. When Emerald took Valerie Black to the icy planet known as Hoth and both nearly died in a blizzard, forced to overcome their dark natures together, Emerald saw in herself a pain she had never wanted to acknowledge.
The core of her darkness was rooted in her inability to forgive her mother of dying. Emerald had never known the warmth of her mother's embrace, never heard the kindness in her voice, or the felt the safety of knowing that her mother would protect her from anything. On some level, Emerald knew she hated her mother for the simple fact that she had grown up alone. No matter how much Narisa had loved her, the elderly Twi'lek had never been enough for her, and it was only now that Emerald realised this. Emerald saw in her mind the pained face of the woman who'd raised her everytime she thought about how much she missed out when her birth mother died, and she hated herself for that. She hated herself for all of it, and it was this hate that drove her away from her fellow Jedi.
It was impossible to just expect her mother's death, to simply expect that she'd never known her mother's love or that Narisa had done everything she could have to raise her in a loving home. It was impossible. But Emerald also knew she needed to overcome it if she was to ever truly have a place within the Jedi. So she did the only things she could do, she pointed that hatred away from herself, acknowledging that allowing it to destroy her wouldn't help anyone. Instead, she fought the slavers that had killed her mother. A lonely task, breaking the chains of Ryloth, but something deep within her whispered that overcoming her hatred would no longer be imposible if she set free every slave on Ryloth.
Her only solace from the hatred, and perhaps the only true escape from it was found in her adoptive son Jalen. Now an adult, the two of them had spent years together, she taught him everything she knew and a little more she learned herself along the way. Just as she fought in the pits and arenas throughout Hutt space, so did Jalen watch and bet on her matches. The two of them earning a small fortune just as she earned a name for herself. Neither ever betrayed their identities as Jedi however, least someone seek to make their own small fortune off their heads.
With her son's skills fast improving and the time of his knighting soon approaching, Emerald feels a sort of sadness everytime she sees him, but it is a pleasant sadness. The filthy and terrified boy she stumbled upon grew up faster than she'd ever expected, and the thought of him one day facing off against sith without her there to stand with him made her heart skip a beat. She refused to consider what would happen if he ever died, no mother should have to bury their own child.
