Andrena Adakarr

- Commenor, 1013 ABY -
The young Arkanian Offshoot woman had been sitting on the uncomfortable metal bench inside the spaceport for what felt like forever. This had been her first time away from her home of Metellos, but one of the tidbits of information she'd received before leaving had been to expect delays of a few hours. There was a war on after all, and it had reached the Core. But six hours? That had to be ridiculous no matter what was going on, hadn't it. Looking around at the other beings waiting for transports, they seemed annoyed at the delay, even the ones that had the air of having done this many times before, which all said that this was probably out of the ordinary to her. She was just glad she'd bought something to eat a few hours ago as the cafe, using what little pocket money she had. Now it was jam packed along with the rest of the place, as result of the delays. As result she was also glad she had a place to sit that was close to one of the arrival/departure display boards, even if she was next to a rather rotund gran. Still none of it was any worse than what she used to, with the public transportation on Metellos, a crowded world if there ever was one. At she'd remembered to pack headphones, the music drowning out the noise of the crowd was the only thing that had kept her sane sitting there for so long.

She took a closer look at the board again. Maybe this was all normal, and she'd just gotten her times backwards. Commenor was rather different than Metellos after all. But no, it still said the same thing. Transport Besh 5 Arrivng from Kuat should have been here six hours ago. Had it even arrived at Kuat? It still said scheduled, having never changed to en route. She squinted at the board to see if there any information she was missing, that was so obvious, she'd feel really stupid that she'd missed it before. But before she could, everything on the board changed. Gone were the expected arrival times, replaced with a flashing red delayed. All of the sudden the clamor of the crowd rose, and Andrena started to feel claustrophobic even sitting on the bench, as it swelled and pressed in. It looked as though there was something on the monitors on either side of the large board. As Andrena pulled the headphones out of her ears to figure out what was going the clamor got quiet. Really quiet, save for a few screaming children, but everyone else was fixated on the monitors which had been set to one news agency or another.

It took Andrena a minute to figure out what it was she was hearing the reporters babble about, and what it was they were showing, but once she did it felt like someone had poured a bucket of ice water over her. At first she thought it was stock footage they had of a space battle somewhere and were talking about one that was taking place, but once the camera panned downward it became obvious this wasn't just taking place anywhere. It was taking place at Coruscant. Andrena was Metellean, and thus didn't think very much of the world that overshadowed the one her great grand parents to the nth power had settled on rather than keep facing the purges and discrimination on Arkania. She'd passed by it on her trip but hadn't had a layover there like she did on Commenor.

But if Coruscant was under attack...

Everyone had known it was coming when the Sith started their drive, but there was a difference between knowing that, and it actually happening. And an even bigger one between knowing it would happen and actually being prepared. Life had to go on after all.

Knots formed in Andrena's stomach. The talking heads would probably go on about what a tragedy it was that was unfolding, and political, and economic ramifications, but her problems were more immediate. Her home was on the other side of war zone, and very likely to end up on the other side of a border from one she was on. She had no money to speak of, it wasn't like she'd moving just yet. For her this was supposed to just be a trip to Condular to visit the prestigious Astrocartographic Institute there. Everyone knew if you wanted to be an amazing pilot you went to Corellia and learned from the best. And if you wanted to be an Astrocartographer, you went to Condular. That's what Andrena wanted. She wanted to be an astrogator for one of the scout services. Maybe get a planet or a hyperspace route named after her, or at the least have good job security. As long as people were traveling via hyperspace there was always going to be a call for people in that line of work.

But she wasn't one, yet. She was just going a trip to see if she liked the place before she packed up everything her life on Metellos and moved to the other side of the Core. With what she had on her, she didn't have the money to get Manaan much less pay for a trip to Condular. Suddenly she deeply regretted wasting money buying that snack earlier, all the more so because the knots in her stomach continued to tighten the more she realized just how screwed she was. Could she get her ticket reimbursed? Or would the Coruscant based company even exist by the time it was all over? Around her the volume of the crowd slowly started to rise again, as what was happening started to sink in for everyone. People started frantically moving about, crying for loved ones on Coruscant, shouting into comlinks, and acting like a colony of ants whose next had just been kicked over. Some where like Andrena though, quietly staring blankly forward as they contemplated their circumstances.

How was she going to eat, much less find a place to sleep? How was she going to get off Commenor? How was she going to simply survive?

The phrase What am I going to do? repeated itself over and over again in her mind as she sat, headphones still in her hand, and staring past the talking heads and views of devastation. Others might be asking how this happened, what would happen next, or where there loved ones were, but for her it was the only question.

What was she going to do now?

Appearance

Andrena is tall, physically fit, with a healthy but slender build that's a result of the best diet there is; budgetary restrictions. Her long dark, reddish blonde hair, and proper number of digits mark her as not being a pure blooded Arkanian. Rather Andrena is one of the many varieties of Arkanian Offshoot, and possesses the typical solid white eyes of an Arkanian, and is somewhat more sensitive to sources of heat and light, although she does not possess the fully capability of seeing into the infrared spectrum that full blooded Arkanians posses. Since joining the Rebellion her style of choice has been a dark red jacket, whatever other clothes she prefers, a black utility belt, and a pair of surgegrip gloves and boots pulled from the standard MCU.

Personality

Andrena might be described as something of a coward. Life as a smuggler has taught her that it's typically better to run away from gunfire than than towards it, and she certainly doesn't go out of her way to pick a fight. Her support for the Rebellion largely stems from the fact that recent events have shown that it's not possible to runaway from the trouble that is the Empire forever. With the recent genocide of the Mandalorians, and the taking of Thyferra it's become clear to her that the status of the independent space she's survived, thrived, and grown to love is threatened. Unlike others she's not fighting for high minded ideals of freedom, or notions of personal vengeance, so much as she is for a continuance of the general state of anarchy that's existed in the Galactic South. She's spent most of her adult life living in, and come to enjoy the freedoms created by the status quo. The reasons for this have their seeds in the tightly packed, restrictive confines of Metellos, her previous dream of being a hyperspace scout, and the cultural memory of the second class status and repression her species enjoyed on Arkania.

She's highly opinionated, holding a strong dislike for just about every major group in the galaxy save the Rebellion, for the most part. To her the Jedi are wimps, the Mandalorians can get bent, and the Hutts are slave holding jerks. Being a member of a species that was essentially created to act as slave labor, and has had to deal with racism and prejudices from so called "pure" Arkanians, Andrena takes a very dim of anyone that would engage in slavery or relegate another group of beings to a lower status. Like a lot of members of the Rebellion to say she doesn't care much for the Sith would be an exercise in understatement. She hates them not the least for the stealing the future she wanted for herself, leaving her in such dire straights after the Battle of Coruscant, and out of general preference for anarchy over life in an autocratic, repressive, soulless bureaucracy where Force Users lord over everyone.

She may not exactly love the old Alliance like a lot of veterans might, but also isn't as bitter and cynical as many of them can be. She holds a great deal of hope for the future, and was never up close and personal with the tragic battles and defeats suffered in the past, and as result can come across as optimistic in an odd sort of way. She's rather opportunistic, holding true to the old saying that opportunities multiply as they are seized, but in reality it's led to her to just as much disaster as it has to fortune. She can come across more than a little arrogant and brash, especially to other pilot types, and life on the edges of what passes for normal society in an age of relative anarchy has given her a sharp wit and a knack for incredibly offensive remarks.

Skills

Andrena is first and foremost an exceptional pilot, but probably not in the same sense as others. Rather than flying with a thrill seeking need for speed, and a natural gut instinct for maneuvering a starship, she instead flies with technical precision utilizing the capabilities of whatever ship she's in to their fullest. While it may longer be her life's goal to pursue a career as a hyperspace scout, it remains at the least a passion for her, and she's a decent if amateur astrogator in her own right. She's a good shot with a blaster and is excellent at navigating the vast criminal underworld of the outer rim, and keeping cool as result of being in numerous tense negotiations between buyer and smuggler. Aside from that her skill set tends to be broad but shallow. She's decent things like first aid but not as good as a real medic, a good engineer but not a great one, and so on.

As far as her other combat capabilities go, Andrena is decent at closer quarters fighting, relying more on good reflexes and being quick rather than brute strength which she does not possess. Swords and swordplay are something she's had zero experience in, and though she's handled a knife on plenty of occasions it represents the largest bladed weapon she's ever really had experience in using. In terms of languages she's fully fluent in basic, conversational in Huttese, can understand most droidspeak, and knows some fragmented bits of Arkanian.

History

- Metellos, 995 ABY-1013 ABY -
Born on the planet Metellos to Arkady and Rangini Adakarr, Andrena had a relatively uneventful childhood. Her family had migrated to the crowded Core World at least centuries prior to escape their second class status, and the racist attitudes on Arkania, and assimilated into the small Offshoot community present. Andrena spent most of her life living in the midlevels of one of the massive stratablocks on the planet, and her mother and father both worked as members of the technical staff that kept the block running. She largely excelled at her education, especially in mathematics, and by the time she was eighteen she was planning to pursue a career as a hyperspace scout.

- Commenor, 1013 ABY -
While on a trip to visit the Grand Astrocartographic Institute on Condular, Andrena was stuck, or rather trapped on Commenor immediately following the Battle of Coruscant. With no money, and fewer prospects she largely stuck to the Spaceport attempting to find either work or passage to another world. Eventually she was able to find work aboard the bulk freighter Islandfire, as a navigator which was the only open slot on the ship. Her inexperience was largely overlooked due to a willingness to work for a greatly reduced level of pay over what the previous navigator was making, and is rather content to simply have shelter and sustenance.

- Druckenwell, 1015 ABY -
Andrena is fired after two years of service on the Islandfire, after it was discovered she had started sneaking small amounts of illicit goods on behalf of a smuggler named Doza Bboc in order to supplement her meager income for a number of months. The goods being smuggled tend to be plant seeds, and other organic material that most worlds like to screen to avoid the introduction of an invasive species. After Andrena is unceremoniously dumped on Druckenwell, the Iridonian Smuggler offers her a new job working for him as his copilot after his previous partner was arrested for public drunkenness one too many times for his liking. Working with the Iridonian aboard his freighter, the Centennial Nexu, would serve as Andrena's introduction to the galaxy's underworld, and the two spent most of their time smuggling goods along the Corellian Run.

- Atzerri, 1020 ABY -
As one might imagine smuggling isn't exactly the safest occupation, and aside from law enforcement, other criminals pose a serious threat to life expectancy of those in the black market trafficking business. On Atzerri, Andrena learned this first hand when a deal went bad between the smuggling duo and a crime lord they had been working for. During the ensuing firefight and chase to the spaceport, Bboc was and Andrena herself barely escaped alive. Rather than keep his ship, Andrena chose to sell it in order to avoid any associations with Bboc the ship had that might lead her into more danger. Using the money gained she purchases her own VX-700 Light Freighter, dubbing it the Commenor Luck, and begins her career in smuggling on her own.

- Naboo, 1022 ABY -
When the Siege of Manaan broke, Andrena opportunistically moved into the region to begin attempting to smuggle the valuable commodity Kolto to worlds in the Outer Rim that would pay out the nose for the stuff. Met with moderate success, her fortunes were ruined later in the year when she was caught red handed on Naboo. As result she not only lost the cargo, but her ship was impounded, and she had spend what money she had to hire a lawyer good enough to get off without any jail time. In the latter case she certainly had an easier time than someone smuggling spice would have, and she was able to walk away free thanks to an argument that she was in fact a humanitarian seeking to relieve the suffering of the ill for a modest fee. Her ship however had already been auctioned off to cover her remaining expenses, leaving her with little way to make up her losses quickly.

- Terminus, 1023 ABY -
In the aftermath of Thyferra's seizure by the Empire, Andrena begins the seek out the group of Rebels opposed tot he Empire, and once led by Terrsyn Pearot who'd made a broadcast proclaiming such some months ago. Her reasons for doing so were largely based on a desire to not see the Empire move any further south, and a good old fashioned hatred of it that she'd never had the excuse to act on before. Also a lack of a ship, and by extension work may have been a contributing factor. After a bit of searching, subtle questions, and quiet conversation she was finally brought into the Rebellion, as a member of the Civilian Resistance.
