BASIC INFORMATION

MODEL NAME:
CCTec PN1: Auditory Frequency Modulator
OWNERSHIP
Whoever Purchases One
AFFILIATION
Typically Mercenaries, Pilots, or Bounty Hunters
DEVICE TYPE:
Modular Chip Board | Ear Insert Bud
INTENT

The intent of this device is to offer a new tool to bounty hunter, mercenary, or other combat characters. This device would prove to likely be a useful tool in the belt of these types of characters in that it comes in different variants, works well with established armor, or with unarmored fighters. It gives players another tool to potentially add to their belt, while working off of pre-existing designs (functionality with established armors) rather than trying to re-invent the wheel. Takes a canon idea (automatic audio dampening in the clone and mando helmets) and gives it an older, more flawed feel ( cannot automatically lower loud tones. If volume is lowered, all volume is at that level. Whispers become regular speech volume, shouts become regular speech volume).

COMPOSITION

Buds: plastoid, circuitry, and silicone comfort gels
Chip: duraplast casing, crystalline circuitry, and interface ports.
POWER SUPPLY

Buds: small rechargeable power cell
Chip: powered by armor
SENSORS

Microphone is the only 'sensor' onboard.
SIZE

Buds: ear canal
Chip: smaller than palm
DESCRIPTION

This device serves as an enhancement for combat, mercenary, or bounty hunting characters. Both variants operate the same way, in that they modulate the audio that is being heard by the wearer, either by controlling the audio imports of a helmet, or by selectively filtering or enhancing directly in the ear as with the buds. This device can be preprogrammed to select certain frequencies and neutralize them. They can also automatically adjust volume, to either enhance it as much as possible, or keep all sounds at a default level. This is helpful when dealing with flashbangs, as the device would essentially come across at the volume of regular speech if programmed appropriately. However, nothing else would carry elevated tones either, and speech would be severely dulled, as with other things that might cause excitement. In the earbud variant it can also connect to a comm device on one's person and relay comm chatter to the buds as not to interfere with communications.

No. It does a lot more than that. It can highlight and enhance certain frequencies, or all together exclude certain frequencies so you don't hear them. It can make all sounds regular. All sound loud. All sounds quiet.

I like it! Would it be okay if I used this when it gets approved?

Anyone who wants one can have one. It makes my heart happy if I made a piece of tech people like.

@Kiro you've been looking at a lot of newer tech than this, would you mind taking a look please?

I'd just appreciate a look. Kinda frustrating that tech that is newer than a week is getting looked at multiple times when this is sitting here for weeks.

I've glanced over it, and I didn't see any immediate glaring errors, Prudii. But as SoB said, the more you post and tag us, the slower we'll be to look at it. I get that it's frustrating, but that's how it works. I'm quicker to respond to stuff that I can see an immediate fault on.

Stuff like this and let's just say... shield gauntlets, requires me and Clayton to think deep, which hurts, so we dun like ta do dat fing. And then we sometimes have to discuss it, with either or both of us playing devil's advocate and trying to come up with how it may be abused, which is the main thing that can slow down a tech approval process.

Even if it's something that looks fine on paper here, Clayton and I need to examine what kind of potential cans of worm may or may not be opened by approving certain things.

Alright. Do you see anything that needs fixing?

Random question. How would this work on species that don't have visible ears? Or would it just not work?

If they can get a helmet on them the chip would work. If they can fit the buds in then they would work.

Doesn't this kind of neutralize a damage type? That's generally something that's avoided in tech, where a piece of equipment can completely neutralize a type of attack, in this case an attack with sound, but the principle is the same.

Technically it would be neutralizing a status effect, not damage. If it neutralized Sonic damage, then it might be a problem.

That's a fair point. I was mostly just using the term to denote something that is meant to harm the target, not necessarily cause physical damage to them. MY concern is, generally, that this, with tinted visors we've seen around here, will make stun grenades and other devices meant to mess with the senses moot.

Okay so our visors don't auto tint, and you would have to specifically equip this and have it set to neutralize or lower the volumes. Each of which has a nerf as I described in the OP
