DESCRIPTION​

Beam tube pistols are a relatively common weapon found in many parts of the Stygian Reaches, particularly those settled by the ancient Tionese. An offshoot of beam tube technology, they are essentially a miniaturized version of the larger weapon, with a corresponding drop in range and charge capacity.

Beam tube pistols are simple weapons, if somewhat awkward compared to their more developed blaster and beamer cousins. They consist of a typically stubby handheld trigger and emitter assembly, connected by an extendable cord to a bulky external power supply, typically worn on a belt. Most beam tube pistols have an effective range of about 25 meters, with a capacity of 50 shots from a fully charged power pack. Like full-sized beam tubes, beam tube pistols fire a continuous beam of confined plasma lasting a split second at a time, a dramatic but power-intensive display. They have no capacity for stun or other reduced power modes.

Although they have largely been replaced by more modern weapons in the parts of the Stygian Reaches which can afford such things, beam tube pistols, alongside full-sized 'tubes, are still a relatively common sight on poorer, less developed worlds. Despite their inherently less convenient and capable design, they should not be underestimated in capable hands.

LEGALITY​

Legal. Ownership of beam tube pistols is not restricted in most of the Stygian Reaches, however openly carrying such a weapon in public might be on more "civilized" worlds. On less civilized worlds, it still might draw unwanted scrutiny.
