The Book of Shadows
DESCRIPTION
The updated and restored version of the Book of Law, came to be known as the Book of Shadows, with some of the tribe's Shamans, believed that the scriptures contained within had been re-written to remove the notions of Good and Evil, on the grounds that such concepts were the folly of the Jedi that was carried into their teachings by their founding Matriarch. The current contents of the Book of Shadows is understood to comprise of the following key chapters:
The History of Dathomir: The Historical history that surrounds the long forgotten ancient Lore of the world, dating back from the Ratakan Empire, through to the establishment of Sith training academies during the rise of the Ancient Sith empire, the Exiling of the founding matriarch Allya, the unification of Nightsister Clans. Some preserved copies that had remained in the hands of the dauthers of Dathomir have been expanded to account for the cleansing that took place during the Clone wars.
The History of The Nightsisters: Covers and describes the arrival of Jedi Exile Allya, her acceptance by the native tribes and the formation of the Nightsisters from those who followed Allya's teachings. As well as covering the extents of the matriarchal society structure of each of the Clans as well as the Zabrack males who are subservient to the various clans.
The Winged Goddess & The Fanged God: Covers the deities that the Nightsister culture reveres, the ancient gods that were symbolic of the Light and Dark side respectively - expanding upon the gifts that each of these deities that may bestow upon a Nightsister as well as the price that each deity would exact for the use of their gifts.
Talismans and Totems: Covers the history and lore that surrounds the physical recetacles that have been embued with the powers of the spiritial realm. Where some totems are noted to be used for blessing and protecting a household, more potent totems allow the barer the ability to either change their physical form, restore their body with the vigours of youth or even in extremely rare cases be able to track down and locate a target. Provided it had been imbued with the targets blood.
Beasts of Dathomir: Covers details and descriptions of each of Dathomir's native fauna, ranging from the Great Rancor, the Drebbin, Ssaurians, Kodashi vipers and how their relationships are intertwined with even the lowly Whuffa worms or Gibbit birds that form a symbiotic relationship within the wilds of Dathomir.
Natures Vigour: Similar to how the beasts of Dathomir covers the plant's native fauna. Nature's vigour expands upon the environment of Dathomir, covering how the spirits reside within the native flora and even the weather, teaching the reader as to how they may be able to reach out and influence the elements of nature through their spirit ichors and magiks.
Training A Warrior: Explains the history that surrounds the trials that Nightsister initiates must endure and pass to become fully fledged clan sisters. Covering the Trials of Fury, Night and Elevation. This chapter also details the types of warriors that clan mothers would see trained and the skills they possess that might be used either for the betterment of the clan or hired out to off worlders, for a price.
Instruction and Transformation: Goes into detail on the various rituals and spells that a Nightsister would learn and sometimes have to use during their life within the physical realm. Whilst many of the spells and powers are covered in how they are to be wielded through either summoning of the spirit ichors or by incantation. Some of the rituals require the use of particular ingredients that can only be obtained on Dathomir and concocted and brewed within a certain order and ratio
Whilst the Book of shadows is not a widely released and is a relatively uncommon tome, they are by no means unique or rare. Many if not all of the Dathomiri Nightsister clans possess their own copies. Some have fallen into the hands of off-worlders, such as Jedi who sealed away their acquired copies deep into the restricted archives - accessible only by Masters or members of the Order's Council, some copies have been taken off world by survivors of the cleansing that took place during the clone wars, as a means to protect the knowledge of their kin.
