*For thousands of years, Kal’Shabbol was said to have been the shining star of the Ashlan Expanse. Wild grasslands, vast oceans and enormous mountian ranges were all travelers would be able to see and find if they visited the world. Over ten thousand standard kilometers in diameter, the planet’s large continents, scattered islands and the vast Ashlan Sea provided it with the ideal conditions necessary for a civilization to grow, live and thrive for millenia.
Though most of the planets villages were small, some had evolved into larger cities needed for the economic development of the planet in the eyes of the markets of the Ashlan Expanse. The largest city was the capital, Ashla Prime, and it was the seat of the Bendu Order and the home of the Bendu Temple of Light, which was also the center of government on the planet. Villagers from other areas of the planet flocked to the grasslands on the outskirts of Ashla Prime, the same grasslands where the Temple of Light was located, to watch as the early morning son rose over the mountains and the deep purple haze that the light of the Ashlan Nebula cast over the planet at night. Others simply came to see the temple, to feel the breeze on their faces, to pray within the grass or to admire the beauty of their surroundings.
Josiah observed all of that from the highest chamber of the temple, just as he did every morning. Even so, every time the sun rose above the mountains he felt as if there was something new to admire. He had woken up a few hours earlier, just as he did every morning, leaving his empty bed in his room. Even though he had reached the age of fifty standard years, he had never married and had no children to carry on the Rendar line. Even so, the walls of the temple were filled with the memories of his mother, father and grandmother so he never once felt alone.
Things had changed greatly in the five years since the Shadourian attack and Ussej’s disappearance. The order, as well as the planet, had gone through a great time of awakening, changing their broken ways and many of their older, less-wanted customs. However, even though he did not feel that Ussej was truly dead, he could not keep his mind off of something that Ussej had asked him to tell the Jedi Council: “if I don’t come back, tell the Jedi that I said...thanks.”
In a sense, Josiah not only wanted to find the Jedi to tell them that, but to help them in their war effort as well. He knew full well that the Jedi and the Republic were still locked in their war with the Sith Empire. His intelligence network wouldn’t have been any use if they couldn’t at least figure that out. He did not know how the Jedi Council would react to his proposal for help, but the least he could do was try after the Bendu had put them through so much hardship.
It would obviously be an awkward meeting between him and the Jedi Council, assuming he was even allowed to speak before them. However, if he could convince the Jedi that he had nothing but kindness and righteousness in his heart then perhaps they would both be able to work together to help the Republic rise to power once again. First, however, he would have to consult with the two younger members of the order that he trusted the most, Ussej Padric Bac IV and Lillianne Crasse, so he would be able to know what they thought about leaving Kal’Shabbol once again to help the Republic and the Jedi.
As he placed his robe over his shoulders and walked through the halls to exit into the Grasslands, he could not help but remind himself that the best interests of his people were his first and most important priority, but in the end he still felt that he had an obligation to help the crippled Jedi Order. Hoping to speak with them as soon as possible, Josiah sent a message to Ussej and Lillianne asking them to meet him on the beach of the nearby Ashlan Sea*
