Saryn wandered the corridors of his home away from home, the Sith Academy of Korriban. It had been many months since landing here, and now he was a Sith Warrior. The maze that was the academy had become as familiar as the tattoos that were etched across the back of his hand. He strode through the corridors with confidence, his eyes well used to the dim light the few skylights far overhead provided. He was searching for something, actually more like someone. Now that he had been promoted , Saryn wanted an apprentice to kick around. Someone to mold into a true Sith, to eliminate weakness and leave nothing but strength in its' place.

His Force Sense broke his reverie. He felt someone that had some capacity with the Force, but the detail about this person that intrigued Saryn was that he recognised this person as a native of Iridonia. He smirked and hastened in this new person's direction. Saryn found the Acolyte in a large empty room. He crossed his arms and glared at the Iridonian in the center of the room.

Nher was both excited and scared of his new home. He had heard wondrously frightening things of Korriban. Most of the children he grew up with feared the stories they heard of the elusive Sith and shied away from tales of "evil" deeds on conquest. The same could not be said for Nher, he hungered to hear more stories and more tales of the deeds done by these misunderstood knights of true order. Nher understood that to have true order you needed to do whatever necessary.

But those were thoughts of the past and Nher had to focus on the now to find a master who could teach him properly, and not some fool too wrapped up in his own egocentric fantasies to teach him about the true dark side of the force and how to master ones enemies.

Nher's mastery of the force was still quite rudimentary, but being able to sense a native of his home planet Iridonia was almost too easy to even bother trying. This feeling gave Nher some hope, perhaps he would receive proper training from a proper warrior. As he saw the figure turn the corner he noticed the tattoos, folded arms, and a glare that could peel the paint off of a sandcrawler. Nher paused for a moment to read this new Sith then proceeded to give him a slight bow and waited to hear from his kinsmen.

Saryn's glare softened almost imperceptibly at the Zabrak's bow. At least the Acolyte knew to show some respect. He unfolded his arms and put them behind his back, grasping his hands together and slowly pacing around the Iridonian, sizing him up. After several minutes, Saryn spoke up. "What makes you think that you can that you have what it takes to be a Sith?"

Nher looked at his kinsmen for a moment before responding,
"I am no fool like the Jedi, I am aware of the truths behind the universe. I know that you must never stop to reach your goals, no matter who or what stands in your way. If it be my own weaknesses that are in the way I shall cut them down as fast as my enemies, and most of all what the Jedi don't realize is that manipulation and deception is more powerful than a lightsaber or the force."

Saryn listened to the Iridonian's words, and smiled humorlessly. "You are half right, whelp. Manipulation is important, but it is the manipulation of ourselves, of our own emotions, that makes us superior to the Jedi. They underestimate us as mindless beasts, slaves to our emotions. And, to their credit, some of our number are. But the true Sith, the strong Sith, are the ones that harness their emotions, focus them into a weapon to be used. Anger, hatred, passion; the Jedi teach to ignore these so-called "base" emotions, the Sith teach to embrace them. That is why we Sith are stronger. The Warrior now looked at the Acolyte, he had been pacing during his speech. Do you understand?"

"Yes I understand. It's not random anger and chaos that controls us, its us who control our anger and let itempower us!." With the apprentices final words raises his clenched fist in the air and thinks to himself, "This man is no fool, I am glad I've found someone like minded, I look forward to overtaking him someday and striking him down."

Saryn let out a short bark of laughter. "Well, it is good to see that you are not a complete fool. But do you have the talent with the Force to back those brains up?" Without another word, Saryn turned toward the miscellaneous objects littering a corner of the large room. He pointed an open palm toward a fork laying on a table and pulled it towards him. He turned back towards the Acolyte and threw the utensil at his fellow Iridonian's chest with not inconsiderable force. Were this attack to land, it would hurt like hell, but it would be far from a fatal blow.

Nher was unprepared for untensil combat, as the pronged missile streaked closer and closer he raised both of his hands summoning what little grasp he had of the force, channeling his anger towards his fellow Iridonian. Miraculously the fork stopped about a half of an inch away from his chest. Nher grabbed the fork in his hands, spun it around a few times taking a look at it before dropping it to the ground.

With one eyebrow raised slightly, Saryn looked at the young Acolyte with a somewhat softer version of the glare he had worn when he walked in. The Iridonian was impressed with the whelp's command of the Force, he had to admit. For a child just falling off the transport to the planet, that was. Yes, this one would serve nicely. "I guess you'll do. I'll take you as my apprentice. Do spare me the wasted effort of destroying you, and keep up." Again the Zabrak paced around his newfound apprentice, hands behind his back. "Tell me, whelp, what do you know of the Sith? Do you know our Code?"

"Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me,"
Nher said with confidence not wanting to look weak or nervous in front of the man who would be his master, "Is there anything else?"Nher asked before giving a lower bow than before, "My master."

Saryn nodded. "Correct, but it is not enough to simply memorize the words. The Code summarizes the entire philosophy of the Sith. I need to know that you understand the meaning behind the words. What does the Code mean where it says, 'My chains are broken'?"

"It means that I shrug off things like compassion and mercy, allowing me to attain my true potential through the dark side of the force."

Nher did his best to hide his agitation. How much longer was this man going to prattle on about words said by men long since dead. He wished to continue with his martial and force training. He wanted to experience his chains being broken, not just speak lightly of them as a part of some outdated ritual.

Saryn could sense his Acolyte's impatience. "Am I not moving fast enough for you, whelp? We are Sith. Nothing will be handed to you on a silver platter. However, I think you are ready for a lesson. You wish to learn the use of a lightsaber, do you not?" Without waiting for an answer, the Sith Warrior brandished a lightsaber and threw at the young Zabrak. "You will start with a practice saber. Don't want to cut your arm off the first time you turn it on, do you?" Saryn waited for the Acolyte to activate his saber.

Nher caught the piece of metal and as he become familiar with the object, learned the weight, the bumps, scraps. This must have been a well used practice saber that had many masters before him, for all he knew this had been wielded by many great dark lords such as Darth Animus or Darth Umbra. Nher gripped the training saber with both hands and activated the light sword.

He had no idea what to expect, the blade was unwieldy, with all the weight in the hilt he felt off balance. He began to wave it around slowly attempting to gain some idea of how the blade was meant to be utilized. Eventually he began staring at his master, gave him a slight bow and said,

"By your command, master."

Saryn watched, bemused, as the Acolyte stared at and became used to the beat-up lightsaber. Once Saryn saw he had a basic grasp of the weapon, he telekinetically pulled his own saber from its place on his hip and into hos waiting left hand. The saber ignlted the instant it reached his hand, its deep crimson blade glowly far more brightly than the young Iridonian's training saber. Turning his gaze from his weapon to his apprentice, his voice carried across the room coolly. "Now, Acolyte, attack me. I won't counterattack... yet. But give it everything you've got." Saryn stood, watching the Iridonian expressionlessly, saber down at his left side.

Nher knew this was a test, he knew that the sith master was lying to him. No matter what Nher did Saryn was going to counterattack, so he decided to make his first attack an impressionable one. Nher gripped the lightsaber with both hands, his plan was to feign a high attack and then swing around for a slash at the Iridonian's midriff. Nher exhaled slowly it was now or never. Nher ran at his master and attempted his feigned attack.

As he watched his apprentice charge at him, Saryn stood, unmoving. He had been reading the young Zabrak the whole time, and he knew that the Acolyte was too bright for a direct attack that would get him knocked aside with ease. He waited for his feint and brought up his saber to block the Acolyte's attack, still holding his saber with his left hand. Saryn spoke to his apprentice, their sabers still locked. "Nice try, whelp. You'll have to try harder than that. With his right hand, Saryn pointed his palm at Nher and a blast of Force erupted from it, attempting to send the Acolyte flying.

Nher was sent flying backwards, he felt as though he had flown ten feet. The shock of his new found flight was only interrupted by the hard impact of landing on the stone floor below him. His breath had escaped him, he struggled to regain his balance and stand up. As he got to his feet he had a slight taste of copper in his mouth. The first drop of blood spilt, but definitely will not be the last. Nher spat the red liquid from his mouth and stared his master in the eyes with a look that was one part determination and one part insanity. He raised his lightsaber in front of him and waited for his master to decide what would happen next.

Saryn still stood, unmoved from his original position. His right hand had dropped back to his side. The only difference was that now, a slight smirk was on the Zabrak's face. "Strange," the Warrior called across the room. "I don't remember ordering you to stand there staring. I ordered you to attack. Now, I expect you to do so. You do wish to learn the way of the saber, do you not?"
