My name is Cnile Mengele. I was only sixteen when my entire family and I loaded up into the sleeper ship Divination along with thousands of others, bound for some rock on the far side of the galaxy. The Ratakan Empire was in it's waning days, the Jedi a strange cult on Tython, and the Hutts completely unknown to us. That was almost seventeen thousand years ago. Something had gone wrong somewhere along the line, and left the ship adrift just outside the Tapani sector. We had been lucky the that they'd been found at all, adrift in the vast distance between stars.

A Jedi vessel had stumbled across the ship, and had begun rescue operations. They had generously offered to ferry the colonists to nearby unoccupied world, an offer we were in no position to refuse. The world was nice enough, but what really had drew me in was the journey there. Once I had finally shaken off millenia of hibernation sickness, I spent the whole time enraptured by what seemed to be pure magic. Journeys that had once taken centuries, now were a matter of weeks, the laser weaponry, and most impressive of all the signature weapon of the Jedi. When commander of the ship told me that I too shared the gift of the force, I hastily accepted his offer to go train on Ossus. Certainly seemed more interesting than trying to build a colony from the ground up.

The first few weeks on Ossus were disorienting. The worst of which was discovering a massive distaste for the commonplace datapad, I missed the paper and binding books that had been commonplace back on ancient Coruscant. I'd also found most of the droids running about to be unsettling, with the exception of the astromech that trundled around the hangars. And do get me started on cyborgs.

Still, not everything has been completely new. I was quite pleased to finally discover the as part of the academy's combat training, there was a class devoted entirely to martial arts. I excelled there, glad to finally be able to get my body back in shape after milennia of hibernation. Not overly tall, I've always been thin, lithe some would say. But don't let that fool you, I can still pack a hell of a punch.

Anyway, that's me. I understand I'm going to be advanced to padawan soon, and be assigned to a master. I look forward to it, though I've enjoyed my time on Ossus, I look forward to finally getting out and seeing the galaxy at large. Yeah, yeah, I know, “A Jedi does not crave these things.” I've only been at this a few months, can't expect me to be perfect right off the bat can you?

***Four Years Later***

I spent the next year training with my Master, Caed Ultor. He was an... unorthodox man, but he had a air of wisdom none the less. I can't say the training was easy, though I didn't really expect it to be either. He introduced to me to the basic skills of a Jedi in what seemed at the time to be a trial by fire. But that is a story for another time.

Over the years, I was told I matured a bit, not quite as much as one might hope in a Jedi, but some. My skills grew with regular practice, They seemed nothing special for a Padawan, but considering I'd only been using the Force for a handful years, I was proud of my progress. The time of peace for the Republic within the Republic served to help make the rest of my training less drastic than my introduction. Weeks of practice were punctuated by the occasional diplomatic mediation or chasing some criminal. It became a familiar pattern, an almost comfortable one.

After time, the Council came to feel that rely upon me well enough to make me a Knight. I took my trials, and the relief I that washed over me once I was told that I had passed is probably the highest moment in my life to date. It was a slight reprieve from the almost monotonous pattern I'd fallen into, but life went on as normal afterward, though now I find myself being urged to take on student of my own.

Lately I've felt uneasy, like something is about to snap, something big. At my the urging of some of the masters round me, I meditated on it, not that much came of that. Still, I can't help but feel, every time I look out at Bogan or Hutt space, that this familiar routine and fragile peace is about to come to a quick and bloody end.

And I can only hope we have what it takes to to survive it.
