Chiss Ascendancy Colonial Phalanx
Andree_Wallin_08a.jpg

Even though the Chiss Ascendancy relies mostly on the Expansionary Defense Force for its military needs, they also employ the use of Colonial Phalanxes. Colonial Phalanxes are basically the garrison of a planet, under the command of a Syndic, that do patrols around the planet and manage the security of said planet. Thus they are much smaller than other forces within the Chiss, but are still just as armed as any CEDF legion, meaning they can fight both on land and space, and border worlds have bigger Phalanxes. Still since those in the Colonial Phalanxes are volunteers, of any species, and can hold other jobs, they do lack the discipline and training of the actual military, even though that does not mean they are worse fighters. Heck, it can even be said that they are even more effective than the actual CEDF since those in the Colonial Phalanxes are fighting for their home, instead of just fighting to expand.

Because of this, Colonial Phalanxes are meant to act as a distraction for attackers until reinforcements can arrive, or as the last line of defense for a planet. Still those that serve in the Phalanxes are given almost the same amount of respect, if not more since they are defending their homeworld, as the soldiers of the CEDF. In the end, to fight a Colonial Phalanx is to fight a wall of sheer will and determination, supported by beams of military prowess and skill.

Still, as said before being the last line of defense is not the only thing they do. They also handle pirates and criminals in the surrounding area, as well as being the main policing force on a planet. Thus, as a police force, they have multiple other job opportunities, outside of being fighters, such as being a detective, riot police, tactical police, or even anti-terrorist police, but still in time of need they act just like a military force. Those in Colonial Phalanxes can also join the CEDF, adding variability and thus allowing them to serve in a normal military force, still if their homeworld is attacked, their duty to the Phalanx outweighs that of the CEDF and they are required to come back and assist in defending their homeworld.

Colonial Phalanx Ranks

Governor-Generals
In charge of Colonial Phalanxes, Governor-Generals rarely lead on the ground, instead preferring to take comfort in mass tactics and strategies due to them generally working with CAIN in the Diplomatic Bureau. Thus they leave on the ground leadership to Syndics. Their rank is equivalent to the Marshall in the Army, or the Commodore in the Navy, they would also be the Chief of Police on the planet.

Syndics
A rank used in the Chiss Ascendancy for centuries, the Syndic was not given a true bearing until now. Personally chosen by the Governor-Generals, they leads Colonial Phalanxes on the ground, inspiring men and leading them to victory. Those with the rank of Syndic are among the bravest and strongest soldiers in the Ascendancy. Their rank is equivalent to the Centurion Prime in the Army or the Force Commander in the Navy. They would also serve as Deputy Chiefs of Police, in control of planetary districts.

Syndic Assistants
Being a Syndic's personal assistant usually means taking command of smaller units, as well following the Syndic's orders to the letter, without question. They can also be messengers between units, instead of actual commanders, if they prefer a more pacifist role. Their rank is equivalent to the Centurion in the Army or the Lieutenant in the Navy. Syndic Assistants would be considered the inspectors of a planet.

Ordenaris
An Ordenari is you average Chiss, or other species, that has joined the Phalanx and received appropriate training. These are men and women who fight for the homeworld with stern will. They take orders from Syndic Assistants, and usually organize themselves in groups from ten to one hundred. Their rank is equal to that of Legionnaire in the Army or Flight Leader in the Navy. Ordenaris would be the basic police officer on a planet, though they could also fill other roles as assistant inspector or riot police.

Temporarias
A temporaria is not an official member of the Colonial Phalanx, whether it be because he didn't want to fight or because his full-time job did not allow him, who picked up a rifle and decided to fight after all. Due to not being officially part of the Colonial Phalanx, they have sub-par training and weaponry. Still they fight hard, and well. They have no rank equivalent in the Navy or Army.

Minor grammatical issues I would fix if I wasn't burnt out from studying for the ACT. Errr, I do like the writeup you have here, but so far it seems like alot of real ranks for a group that doesn't travel much and is given the 'well, when all else fails, it's your turn to die' position. I can understand that's not what you're going for at all, but it is what I am feeling from this. Either one of these suggestions would fix this-
you remove the ranks and add more general description.
You keep the ranks, add alot more general description, add more functions.

Sorry for not getting around to this earlier mate! Also, thank you reminder VMs.

As a PC division, I still do not see this as useful. However, as an NPC stub for the military to put into the Expiditionary Library, it's fine.
