DESCRIPTION
A bowcaster was a type of traditional, handcrafted slugthrower weapon created by Wookiees. Bowcasters used specialized conductor orbs to energize solid quarrels as they were propelled between them by the weapons firing mechanism, forming the weapons "slugs". The quarrels were contained within special magazines and were stripped off the magazine by the cocking mechanism, which had to be manually reset between each shot. Each bowcaster is unique- a reflection of the preferences and personality of the Wookie who built it. Some were elegantly wood carved with gold inlays, while others were massive chunks of forged durasteel that doubled as good clubs.

Unlike most slugthrowers, Bowcasters inflict significant damage. Unfortunately, being designed for Wookies, they were notoriously large, heavy and difficult to operate and boasted a powerful recoil. The cocking mechanism, in particular, required a significant effort to manually reset between shots, which gives the weapon a slow rate of fire- many human-sized and smaller beings had difficulty performing the task at all. The slug also had a tendency to "burn out" and disintegrate at quite short ranges.

Using her experience as a weaponsmith, Cressa has modified this slugthrower with a single, thermal scope instead of a double one for more comfortable aim at places with bad visibility, replaced the stock with a stronger version to mitigate the recoil and attached a carrying belt alongside with a laser sight. The frame and chamber were made with stainless steel to survive harsh environments while handle made of duraplast.

LEGALITY
Bowcasters were classed as ceremonial weapons by many governments, and their ownership was often legal- uncommon for slugthrower weapons- although open carry on civilized worlds was often restricted. However, Wookies hold the weapons in almost sacred regard, and non-Wookie owners are likely to be interrogated as to how they acquired the weapon if spotted by a Wookie Warrior- those with unsatisfactory answers are liable to have their arms pulled out of their sockets.

INTENT
This bowcaster is Cressa's reward for assistance to pilgrims on Kashyyk.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Many Wookies nowadays craft themselves custom blaster rifles that resemble true bowcasters in appearance only, and traditional slugthrower Bowcasters like this one are becoming increasingly rare. Crafting one is a rite of passage for dedicated Wookie Warriors that could take 2-3 threads of tech plot, dependent on difficulty. Stealing one from its highly protective Wookie owners would be a similarly difficult feat.

So the only real change is the thermal scope.

Composition does not matter. Yeah I think this is in the right section may even need to do a small plot for the thermal sight.

Actually this makes me think of weapons upgrades

I'd like to note that the Life Day rewards offered a bowcaster, not a tricked out custom bowcaster. If I let you have this as is, it sort of snubs all the other people who just took their prize as-is. Additionally, as we've discussed now on discord, I'd prefer to see tricked out custom versions of weapons upgraded organically the same way ships are. Andrewza has already submitted a thermal scope, for example.

Archived. If you just want the looks, you can resubmit this in generitech without all the bells and whistles.
