Dawn of the Republic - Sacred Band of Ziost

I must say that as a newb, I really like how I'm seeing this little Band shape up so far. I like the ideas of elite subterfuge and most heinous villainy. Still finding my own footing as to the mechanics of rollplay, and have a few concepts for my character, but I'm eagerly seeing how this develops. Perhaps I can get some feedback from the group: Since we are from Ziost, are we presumed to be Human species, or would others be expected as well. I see one sentient droid in the pack already and that's a neat twist. What about communication? If we are spreading discord across the stars, are we in constant contact or acting separately? Where's the start point, are we together on Ziost and fan out from there? So much to learn. So much fun to be had. The Legacies game went for about 4 years I see, I hope DoTR is equally epic, and the SBZ will play a key role in that story.

From what I understand, your character does not have to orginate from Ziost (which is relatively unlikely, given how barren the planet is in the EU, though it ultimately depends on he staff how it appears here). From what I understand, your character joined the Sith at some point (or were built by them) and got so badass that he was sent to Ziost for some kind of test to see, if he is tough enough to be part of their Elite Legion (the SBZ).

Communications is a good point. I guess it depends on the point. If you are doing undercover and subterfuge mission, there won't be much chatting with the others at that time. While on normal duty, I see the Sith Stronghold well connected in terms of communication, if only available to a select few. I guess the starting point will be determined by yourself or whatever the Think Tank comes up with, but there is already an announcement as to the starting territories.

I am just as new, most of the stuff is just guessing.

I haven't read all the posts here yet bit the sbz are starting to look pretty good. I will be rolling with my sith lord and he would be looking to work with and gain the support of the sbz as he would be looking to regain his lost power base.

How do people see this faction, what would it do, what are it's objectives, who makes up it's rank and file?

For me I am torn between a cruel but elite unit of fanatics, with a sort of quasi-religious symbolism to them, and a criminal group, akin to slavers and the Black Sun.

Either way I think SBZ need to be the antithesis of the republic, but also able to stand on their own two feet, and on an equal level with the Sith.

Thoughts?

For me, this faction is akin to all of the above described elements. The SBZ is an elite, shock unit similar in fashion to the Mandalorians - every man is an exceptional warrior in their own right. However, beyond their skills, they can have widely different backgrounds - some may be prestigious Sith Troopers who were selected for service in the SBZ, others might be mercs, some might be cultists; really, the more options that are available, the more popular this will be. The lack of a strict command structure is also beneficial - it will allow people to more easily take initiative and do RP's for themselves rather than being restrained by protocols like prior military factions.

Great game. Why not Wu Ming also? Why not just seem like an infinity army entirely by being drawn from so many background ;)

Yes the Wu Ming would be another great example of what I'm seeing them as I just picked the Durze because they are specialized shock troopers

Force user or no? Both factions can work but Band is more suited to Imperial Agent style characters.

It doesn't really matter to me. I actually have an idea for each. If I make the spymaster a brand member than he'd be an archetypal spy with some alterations. If he's a Sith than he'd be more of a charlatan instead of a strict spy. I think I'll try making him as a brand member because I already have a Sith.

As a Sacred Band member, you can always diversify his skillset beyond just "spy," so he can perform other tasks, missions, etc. If you specialize too much, then you might not have room to do more common things, and might find yourself bored of the character. For example, he's a spy, but he's also decent at being a sniper or scout, or maybe he's a real casanova with the ladies (or men), or maybe he's a sound planner, or some other skillset that might complement spying but can be used in other situations as well.

That's kind of how I was picturing my own character being. The SBZ is supposed to be an elite group right? So I see them as being multitalented boogeyman rather than simple henchmen.

The idea is that she'll basically be a fanatic cultist, complete with sacrifices and offerings to the Sith, as if they were gods. Or the Dark Side. Or both. Or simply to dead Sith, depending on if the SBZ knows about Moraband. I imagine her somewhat like a priestess of the Sith. She doesn't actually possess any of their powers, but she worships them, prays to them and may or may not become an evil "Prophet of the Sith."

I like that character idea. I was thinking my own would have a reverence for the Sith, he wants to be force sensitive but lacks that ability. Otherwise he completely identifies as Sith but is relegated to the Force non-senstive SBZ.

I like to imagine that there are quite a few members of the SBZ that worship Sith or wish they could be Sith. Much like, if you've played SWToR, the cultists in the revolting slaves section of Dromund Kaas.

I am imagining our characters getting along just fine, possible with holding Sith rites and masses specifically for the non-FS of the SBZ in secred cabbalistic meetings.

I actually imagine my character being just as faithful to the cause in his heart (*cought*brainwashing is the way to go *cought*), though not that open about his fanatism most of the time. My character will more revere the creed and ideals of the Sith, without all these Force-sensitivity focus. So it is more about their ideals and the goal of domination through strength and freedom, than the "Dark Side of the Force".

Hello all!

I am in the process of making a Jedi Knight who will be taking on the role of a Jedi Watchman. I will be chasing up leads on sightings as the Sith and the SBZ begin to crop up and trying to keep as close as I can to the front line to pick of stragglers that may have overstayed their welcome in BA, Republic or Jedi territory!
