Also, who knows the process to be a Senator next timeline. Maybe Senator is an AFL rank while the average person is an aide or diplomat or guard? Doubt it though. Plus who knows if selection will really be based on first come.

@Bauren Senators will be standard members role in the Galactic Republic, as far as the staff has made us aware. If it was a role reserved for an AFL than we would have an extremely large issue with under representation, as there would be only be around 2 worlds represented and only 2 votes for any issue concerning the Republic.

EDIT: I worded that wrong, it has been heavily implied by the staff and think-tank members that first-come-first-serve is the way things will be run.

Some questions or suggestions to throw out there for you guys to discuss.

So, are we going to be asking Senate characters for a writeup on their planets politics? In the real world we have tons of studies to assist people in visualizing who thinks what; Republicans in the rural areas, Democrats in the cities for the US, etc.

What's the policy on existing characters attempting to join the Senate - must characters be made specifically for it, or can certain PC's actually join it itself?

Is there any process by which a Senator can be removed from office?

I believe Senate PC's should have a brief writeup in their CP about either their personal, or their planets, politics. (Just like briefly summarize their stance on a big issue or two, that's it) Aside from that, I hold no opinions on the latter 2 remarks, they're just for discussion.

@Saul I think that would be an interesting concept. I hope that most people with senate characters remember that their own senators are tied to the politics of their own planet as much as they are the Republic itself. I don't know about every character, but mine and a few others have a dedicated section in our senators characters apps surrounding policy positions on broad things such as military, trade, travel, etc. To go further, my own senator is tied intrinsically with the politics of her own planet, and the climate of Zeltros itself mirrors her policy positions. For example, the lack of successful occupation of Zeltros under almost any regime would make my senator far less sympathetic to a war against the sith.

I'd like to have my character represent the planet Dorin as a Senator. The characters name is Lumai-Erzhu, a Kel Dor female.

I still have a lot of work to do on my senator and won't be able to do any more until we know more about the BA but his name will be Horus Tezak.

According to the map Dorin isn't in the Republic.

Added it to my little list up above.

Ok. Well, then I'll will represent Neimoidia and its colonies (Cato Neimoidia, Deko Neimoidia, Koru Neimoidia, etc.). The character's name is Lidd Duchely, a Neimoidian female.

Thanks for the link - added!

@TAC I think you missed this one. I would know, I spent like 30 minutes staring at the map trying to help her pick a world that had a beach and was relevant.

Thank you! I added her. Sorry about missing that.

I'd love to have either a Kel Dor senator for the planet Dorin, or to be the senator for Onderon. Kel Dor are my favorite sentient species, and Onderon is definitely one of my favorite planets. I've played them both before on the Star Wars political RP I used to play.

Looks like our Senate friends helped you out with this. I added you for OnderoN!

If multiple Senator's per planet are allowed, I would wish to have my character eventually become a Corellian Senator to build political influence, then move to a Independent Faction I'm creating.

I don't believe it will be, also I think the planet should go to the person meaning to stick with it. There are a ton of ways to build political influence outside of being a senator.

@Callus Hardy

Alternatively, you can ask the person with a Corellian senator already in the works if your guy could be an aid to him? You really only have a single paragraph of description for an indie faction that wants to force Corellia back into a ruling class system, even though we don't really know what Corellia's government was like 1,000 years before the clone wars. The Republic Senate is going to be a main faction that will hopefully remain active and filled up for a good long while. Since it is a first come first serve basis, the person with the already made Corellian Senator character who plans on being a senator right away is likely to get it, and I doubt a character will be accepted as a senator if they only plan to use it as a sort of backstory/stepping stone to make an independent faction and leave the Republic Senate.

I guess that could work. Thx.

Let me know what you decide! If your guy was an 'aide' for a Senator, you could probably make them as an indie and make the argument that they don't fit into the overall structure of the Republic... that way you can not tie up your main faction with a secondary-ish character.

But the rule as far as I understand it will be one world, one senator, one writer.

Also, who knows the process to be a Senator next timeline. Maybe Senator is an AFL rank while the average person is an aide or diplomat or guard? Doubt it though. Plus who knows if selection will really be based on first come.

Yeah, that won't be a problem, Bauren. From top to bottom, the Galactic Senate will be populated by Senators.

I think that's a good idea, as far as planet/personal politics. But I wouldn't see it as a requirement - merely a suggestion. We don't require Jedi or Sith to write in their profiles their personal beliefs relative to the Jedi code - it might be smart to have something in there, but by no means a requirement.

Potentially, Senators can be removed by the Senate I suppose.... just like any other motion. There doesn't need to be a special process. And if an indie faction was able to exert enough control over a planet, they could potentially try to overthrow someone. That'd be tough, but a great arc.

Also, I think any character would potentially be able to join as a Senator - as long as the story makes sense. It would be more difficult for an existing PC, because they'd probably have to write a lot more about that out, but by no means not allowed!

I added you for Neimoidia. While you can refer to yourself as having their colonies, etc, you represent a single sovereignty - so your power and vote won't hold any more weight because of the number of planets Neimoidia owns from an OOC or official IC perspective. Just wanted to add that disclaimer!

I was already aware of it, I just mentioned about the colonies because there could be other players who think that Neimoidia and Cato Neimoidia or any other planet with "Neimoidia" in the name are not politically linked with each other. But I appreciate your warning ;]

Hey @TAC, I posted the profile of my character, Lidd Duchely. Ah, let me just say that we need more corrupt senators! Where are the greedy politicians? the cold hearted senators? This Senate is too utopian and what we need is something more... dystopian.

@Officiant

This is an assembled roster for the next timeline, which should start sometime this month hopefully. So yes you can.

@Cameron Foster

It will probably depend on how you actually roleplay your character. While an aide won't likely be an official rank as far as I can tell, if you ask someone if you can be an aide for their senator character than it potentially opens you to a lot of roleplay opportunities surrounding that Senator. I'm not sure how they would work if they were directly employed to do work around the senate.

Thank you! Thyferra is in the Republic according to the map but has anyone claimed it since Sunday? If not I have a character idea left over from Legacies.
