I drink every weekend (usually), and sometimes during the week, but that doesn't make me an alcoholic.

This. Just cause you like to drink it doesn't automatically make you a "scum of the earth" drunk.

On the other hand..the US is already full of shit with the drinking age where it is, I can't imagine what it would be like if they lowered it. @_@

I think it's fine how it is here in the states. Then again, I never drank before and don't plan on starting anytime soon.

If you're old enough to **** legally you should be old enough to drink legally. Drinkinge age should be 18.

I'd **** you... legally of course :CHappy:

Per Masq. I disagree that there's a drinking age; I only agree with an age of drinking in public, like we have here. People should have a sense of responsibility in their own houses, and if they don't, I'm not the one to suffer. Most people in England don't abuse it. It's just a few.

I'd **** you... legally of course :CHappy:

Made me laugh.

I have no problem with the drinking age in the united states. I actually think its better. For some odd reason I hate drunkards(Scum of the earth). People who drink a lot in my opinion are seriously pathetic and I hate them with a passion that can't really be put into words. Though I don't entirely mind a drink once a while.

The drinking age won't stop most alcoholics, most alcoholics will become so after that age. And to call someone with a serious problem the "scum of the earth" is pretty damn intolerant. I drink quite a lot, I'm not an alcoholic though, I'm not reliant on the stuff, not even close.

So long as you aren't a dipsomaniac or you don't get drunk off your ass every time you touch booze, I don't think you would be considered an alcoholic.

If the drinking age limit here was lowered, we would be having a bunch of stupid kids doing stupid things since they could "legally" drink.

Kids are always going to drink underage, it's part of western culture these days. Lowering the age to 18 won't make it any different, it just mean you have more people drinking in bars than on the street.

Really? Me and several of my cousins and friends never had the desire to drink when we were underage. Some of us still don't.

But yeah it would make a difference. There would be more kids drinking then there would be if it was 21, which would result in more kids doing things intoxicated then there would be now. Besides the age difference, The United Kingdom and United States are not the same when it comes to youths and booze.

Oddly, that doesn't surprise me.

Not everyone's responsible or sensible with drink at a younger age.

Yeah, there's always going to be exceptions when it comes to generalisations. The fact of the matter is most kids do.

No, the UK is known for lout culture and binge drinking, but it's nothing to do with the age, plenty of places have lower drinking ages than us and that isn't part of their culture. The fact of the matter is teenages, 14, 15, 16, 17 will drink and the fact 18, 19 and 20 year olds can't drink in America is something I find ridiculous. If they're legally adults they should have the responsibility for those kinds of things.

It's not just the UK, to be fair.

America's got a lot of problems in some areas too.

Most western countries do.

I've heard Prague, of all places, is experiencing a lot of problems.

I'm not saying other countries don't have the problems, just that we're actually known for lout culture.

I dont know about no lout and no shmout, but the americans have THE culture of binge drinking. In most places in the world, even when drinking with people age 18,19,20, people are able to go, have a beer, maybe two, see what develops, and stop if there's no point to continue. The american mentality, especially among younger crowds, is that if you are drinking, you need to get drunk.

21 drinking age is rediculous and has no logic behind it. It is a product of the dumb american strategy of 'Kind of address the problem, but then look the other way'. They had problems with drunk drivers, so they increased the drinking age. Guess what changed (other than the drinking age): nothing. The drinkign and driving statistics did not change.

Now it would be difficult to just change it to 18. If that was to happen in one step, there would be many hospital visits in the first week or so, because teens will go crazy. After that, you will see drinking culture change....In most countries where the age is 16, or 17, or 18, most people get over the 'hype' of getting drunk constantly by age 21,22, while in the US, it doesn't happen until 24,25.

Also, legalize marijuana, so people do something less dangerous than alcohol.

Per Agri. Honestly, it's safer to have people drinking in bars and establishments, than on the streets or in alleys and shit. Not to mention it won't change anything. The minute someone can do something legally at any time, it loses it's edge. You aren't drinking illegally anymore. You're just drinking, something millions of other people do every day.

Technically, my Dad could buy me a beer at a restaraunt. But I'd rather pass.

I don't mind having like one glass of wine like every once and a while. Though I see a lot of homeless drunk people in the town I live in. So I form my opinions of being drunk because of those homeless drunks. Its not intolerant to hate drunks. I don't really care if they have a problem or not; even if they do have one it is their problem and not mine. Though in my opinion drunkards are seriously a waste of life. Someone who's entire life is focused on being drunk is pathetic and in my opinion which may seem horrible. It would benefit humanity if they no longer were alive.
