THE GRAND HUNT
Faction Event
_Summary
Originally, the Great Hunt was a competition held by the Mandalorians primarily for glory to prove which one among them had the most skills. As time went on, it evolved into an open call for all warrior-types, Mandalorian and even non-Mandalorian alike, to prove their worth to see which was best. It's since then became a tradition lost in time, revived only recently by the Hutt Cartel. In this time of great galactic discourse, the Cartel aims to prove that they themselves can amass the greatest warriors around the Galaxy and in hopes to show their influence reaches all across the Universe, even in troubling times.
Ultimately, the Champion of the Hunt, will be offered a seat of importance within the highest Cartel echelon by becoming leader of the Natori Security Company, the Cartel's very own paramilitary organization. Not to mention all the glory that might come with being named the strongest warrior in the Galaxy, and a rather hefty lump sum of money.
Now, I know there's conflicting time zones for many of our members, but we will be using Central US for reference. Now, the sign-up will close on Friday, August 15th night, though if you manage to squeeze in a sign-up before we announce the participants you can still be considered. We'll sent out PMs Saturday, August 16th morning and you're more than welcome to start at any time after you've been notified. By the following Wednesday, August 20 we should begin the Second Round, with the winners being notified the day before, and ending Tuesday, August 26th. The Final Round will begin Friday, August 29th, and isn't timed. We don't expect it to drag on more than two-weeks, so expect a named winner sometime early-mid September.
Now, we're not robots and we also have lives and of course things might come up, so these are just the expected times, and by no means concrete. There will be a grace period before and after each round stages to allow myself and Matt to read and pick the winners, and allow participants to wrap up their threads if possible. As a general rule-of-thumb though: you have 72 hours from your initial post in Round 1, and 168 hours to complete Round 2.
This is not a first come/first serve sign-up either, though if we don't get enough participants it obviously will be! However, if you think your chances are low in being accepted, you're welcome to PM Hutticane Matt or myself with a sample of your best-writing, or try to fight your case! All you have to do to sign up is give us the following:

_Rules
First and foremost, you must be a member of the Cartel.
Well, this is a Cartel event, therefore we'd like all participants to be members of the faction. However, if your non-Cartel character is vouched by a Cartel member, the faction staff will overlook this rule. (This is an IC voucher, meaning your character must actually know and be on friendly terms with the Cartel member that is vouching for you.)
Forewarning: as slimy Hutts, we will give preferential treatment to members of our faction. That's not to say you can't win, we just will grade you a bit harder. Also, we will generally try to pick members of our faction into the event than outsiders. A quick fix is to join the faction! :D
Now, to the nitty-gritty. How this all will work. There will be THREE rounds. The first two rounds will be solo threads in which your character goes after their targets, while the last round will be a mexican standoff between the finalist and the NPC target.
Round One, or the preliminary round, will consist of eight participants, all retrieving deadly beasts from across the Galaxy to add to Borga's personal collection. In the first round, your character will be given one of the following targets: rancor, daoshim, acklay, blood-eater, dragonsnake, Zakkeg, K'lor'slug and nightspider. Death of your target beast results in automatic disqualification. You will have 3 DAYS to complete this round.
Round Two, or semi-finals, will consist of the best four of Round One. This event is purely hunting and killing four of the most wanted and heavily guarded beings in the Galaxy. Though capture is acceptable, we would rather see them killed. [WILL LINK THEIR INFORMATION AT A LATER TIME]. You will have only 7 DAYS to complete this round.
Round Three, the final round, will consist of the top two stand-outs of the Hunt in one single thread. Both finalist will be given the information of their target once the last round begins and will hunt the Galaxy's most wanted Bounty Hunter, to be NPC'd by the Hutt Staff. Know that going into the Final Rounds, you consent to your character being injured/maimed/dismembered and anything just short of death.
Reason being: the two finalist will be pinned against each other to hunt the same target, which just to happens to be hunting the two of you. We, as the NPC, will also be able to injure and harm your character, adding to the severity in the task and thread itself. You're more than welcome to sabotage and harm your opponent, but more conflict between you two will make it easier for the NPC to win. Again, if you feel like your character could handle it, go ahead. No time limit, but should the thread drag out or stall for too long, the Staff reserves the right to name the winner of the thread. Should both participants lose in the Finals, there will be no winner and both of your characters heavily injured and become the laughing stock of the [st]forum[/st] Galaxy.
Lastly, we would prefer if you were active members of the forum. We want this event to boost interest not only in the faction, but the forum as a whole. While technically not a rule, given we are placing time limits on each round, we would like people who will be on enough to actually see it to the end.
"Well, that's not fair, my character is pretty strong but I'm not in the Cartel, how come I can't join?!"

_Grading System
The grading system is relatively simple for the first two rounds. We look mainly for three things: creativity, pace and completion. Now we're sure you have more questions about that, so I'll go ahead and try to explain further.
Creativity: This the most important of the three, the creativity you have as a writer to make things interesting for the readers (most namely the judges). Mainly, how interesting you could make your thread with the information you're given.
Pace: More of a complexity in the grading system. For pace, it's more about how long your post are, and how long they aren't. While we certainly love good creative posts, we don't always like long-dragged out post with no real purpose towards their story (or a single wall-of-post). One should also know not to post a two-line post either. While it slightly ties in partly with creativity, it is more about the writer's timing in their story, or cliffhangers in simple terms. While there's no requirement or limit in post numbers, generally speaking there's three parts to a story: beginning, middle and end; start from there and build up.
Completion: While not as important as the other two, given that it is a timed event, completion would certainly be a grading requisite. At least for the first two rounds. This is the one we'll be more lax on however, as we don't necessarily want to overwhelm the writer (we're more than certain you're doing other things than just this event). Still, completion of your thread would certainly help you if your opponents in the contest didn't complete theirs.
In the Final Round however, it's more about which writer can outsmart the other, and which one captures the target first.
With all that we just want to add: we're looking for the best writer we can find in our faction. This is a chance to flex just how bad ass your character is/can be, while showcasing your own skills as a writer. We aren't simply looking for people that hug a thesaurus or write novel-long posts, but creative and engaging writers that want to show off their unique character and story.

_Prizes
INITIAL ROUND
[50,000 Credits] |
SEMI-FINALS
[100,000 Credits] |
GRAND PRIZE
[200,000 Credits] |
Along with the large credit boost (and yes, you will get all of those prizes if you win), you will also be granted the title of [st]"Biggest Badass Ever"[/st] "Strongest Warrior in the Galaxy", which you can flaunt In Character. Also crowned one of the best writers the forum has to offer, at least in Matt and my own's eyes, which should be a pretty big deal anyway, right? So, bragging rights are a cool prize, I guess.
Should you be a Cartel Member, your character will also receive an automatic promotion to Champios. And finally, like mentioned before, you will be offered a position as leader of the Natori Security Company with control over the company itself, and shoot up to the highest echolon in the Cartel and a sizable mercenary army at your disposal, though you're more than welcome to decline this if you don't see your character doing that sort of thing.
