I very much agree with these new changes to rank structure.

Doesn't make sense to have people start off as a student, especially when not all characters will be the same nor make sense for them to be a student of some sort depending on age and background.

In other words, it was super limiting.

The FL/AFL have PCs. They can be challenged and overthrown.
Would the overthrown FL/AFL keep their position or would the usurper assume those responsibilities as well?

Will you impose a minimum age for Jedi Knight/Sith Whatever? I am kind of scared some people will be tempted to make 10-years-old Human Jedi Knight (exaggerating a bit, but still)...

I am here for this. Honestly, the only thing that kept me from being involved this timeline on my older accounts is my hesitation over having to dump about 3 months of commitment into the site first before I could do anything substantial. I like the idea of training a character from childhood, but I'm still incredibly happy with this.

I've had a lot of burning experiences with PvP and I've heard some bad stories. I'm admittedly a little paranoid; I haven't PvPed here enough to get a full measure of the temperature of the water.
PvP is something that can be enjoyable and annoying, depending on how you approach it and how you respond to it. My first two PvP experiences on the site were the Battle of Noob Hill (aptly named) and Dark Hearts. In both of those threads I managed to lose epicly. However, while I did get some stress while writing them initially, I did enjoy them. I still have fond memories of them, if at least the absurdity of them (I managed to accidentally kill my teammate and then got knocked out by my character's own glass orb).

That last part was strangely amusing enough to get me to chuckle...well done sir.

I find this announcement interesting, and in some ways, amusing.

I certainly won't miss the experience of having to go through as many masters as I have fingers on my hands. A big issue with the training requirements that didn't get mentioned in bac's OP was that oftentimes the masters would be more committed to their own personal RPs and timelines that had been established before the arrival of the newbies to be trained than they were to the training, leaving their padawans to wither on the vine unable to contribute to the faction for far longer than 2-3 months. And the trainees really had no kind of leverage to get posts in their training threads; if they became too annoying/nagging, the masters could just drop 'em as there was no enforceable expectation of responsibility on the trainer at all.

Hell, in my case I think it was at least a year. And the FL ended up granting me an exception to the training requirement because so many masters had become...distracted. I was allowed to be promoted and RP training retroactively, though I ended up leaving for other reasons.

So I'm not sad to see those requirements go. At all. It's apparent I'll have to make a hella lot of edits to my character bio though. There's really no reason for a trained Jedi Knight to have to take fludrocortisone and stimpills, oh my what a combination that would be. XD

But I do have a question. Assuming we did choose to start as a Knight, would we be allowed to do a kind of prequel training thread with others for character development purposes? I'm sure that there are Jedi out there who would find the idea of training a padawan with blood pressure so low he feels dizzy upon standing (what the fludrocortisone is for) entertaining; hell getting the padawan off that medication (which can be some nasty shit) would probably be part of the training. And if a prequel thread set six years before the timeline date stalls, who cares, it's not holding up our character development along whatever the timeline date happens to be.

In fact, if the person who asked me to come back chose to make a Jedi, that kind of RP would be highly amusing.

I've got no issue with anyone doing flashback threads (they're quite common really), so long as they aren't used to retcon established information. I know that should go without saying, but...well, in my experience it needs to be said anyway. >.>

I'm already doing a flashback thread in diverse RP for DotR that I'll hopefully be able to make into solid history background once the timeline officially starts :D

Andreus, it's my opinion in general that is a problem with faction activity in general. I can only assume that the novelty of being the leader of a faction wore off a long time ago on people and the health of the faction went to the wayside in favor of whatever else that player is doing and that just trickles down the ranks.

I don't know why we are not considering the fact both Jedi and Sith can be Knights.... Seeing as its the default starting rank, is it not better that way? Last thing we want is a bunch of people coming to start RPing here and picking the Jedi over the Sith because the Jedi have a sensible name and the Sith have something plucked out of the air due to people trying to make it sound twisted and evil! Not only that Knights are the bulk of the factions force saying "Gather the Knights" sounds equally as cool on both sides.

My proposed ranks would be:

Sith Initiate > Jedi Padawan (If people chose those roles.)
Sith Knight > Jedi Knight
Sith Lord > Jedi Crusader
Darth > Jedi General
Dark Lord or Lady = Both the FL & AFL (Sith)
Grandmaster/Warmaster or Battlemaster = Both FL & AFL (Jedi)

Sith Acolyte <> Jedi Padawan
Sith Crusader <> Jedi Knight
Darth (aka Sith Lord) <> Jedi Master

Other things like General and Inquisitor and whatever have you would be In-Game rewarded titles and what not that players would earn.

@Khivas I was under the impression Jedi General was pretty much going to be a thing. Its been brought up so many times.

@Tsunami Considering the Jedi and the Republic are separate entities, what exactly would the Jedi be generals of? As far as I was aware, I thought the idea of Jedi being generals was something the admins wanted to avoid, in the beginning at least. I could be wrong and mis-remembering things, though.

Yeah guys, the staff pretty much have the ranks already ironed out. The only reason why talk of ranks came about in the first place, as far as I can tell in this thread, is because some people were confused as to what initiate level sith should be called.

Each faction is going to have less ranks, with the exception being the FL-AFL ranks that can only be held by few people. From what @Brandon Rhea has said in previous threads it sounds like each main faction will have around two ranks, especially the Sith and the Jedi. Each character is able to start out as a Jedi Knight or its equivalent, and then the next step up would be more akin to a darth or jedi general.

@Sapphire Storm If I remember correctly Jedi General would be a thing because of the completely crusading and combatant nature of the Jedi this timeline, and their focus on exterminating the sith.

Well I've seen it crop up more than a few times. From my knowledge there was more Jedi in this kind of Era than there would have been in the clone wars etc? So there military force would be comprised of Jedi Knights?

General is a military rank that denotes you are at the top of a military hierarchy (Ground Forces usually), you are the top advisors, have the most military experience and ALOT of respect from those beneath you. Seeing as the Jedi are going to be a lot more "militant" I don't feel it is totally unsuitable.
