Jead was surprised at how easy it had been to arrive at his destination, the Jedi Temple. Of course he was even more surprised at how simply he had decided to come here. Almost immediately after he had walked out of the office, firmly buying his freedom from slavery, he had overheard some slave masters talking. "Those Jedi tried talking to the leader again today. Big mess with the slaves when they somehow heard about that." The first human that talked finished with a scowl. "I see, thats why they had so many bruises when I went to work them. The Jedi think they know everything nowadays." More sadistic than his partner, this human was smiling, almost like he enjoyed the slaves pain.

That conversation planted the idea in Jead's mind to go to the Jedi. They seemed like they thought they had an answer for him, or would at least act like they did. Which is all Jead wanted, a companion or a purpose in his now totally free. Getting there, as he realized, was just as easy as finding out about it. Completely free of the knowledge of how to properly do it, Jead had simply walked up to the first ship-looking thing, and told its pilot to bring him to the place of the Jedi. An unknown amount of credits was all that Jead gave the pilot, and he was ushered into the ship. He hoped the pilot had taken something reasonable but truly didn't care either way. Now being laid down in front of the temple doors, with no idea how exactly to begin to ask the Jedi for help, he began by walking in.

Maotr Krahen saw the young Zabrak walk into the temple's doors. He recognized Jead as his second apprentice to be. Maotr walked up to Jead and said, "Welcome to the Jedi Temple. My name is Maotr Krahen. I am to be your master, and to train you in the ways of the Jedi. Come with me."
Maotr strode ahead, until they reached an empty room. It was circular, with a domed glass ceiling. The floor was rare imported tile. Maotr sat crosslegged on the floor, then asked his apprentice, "Why do you wish to become a Jedi?"

Jead gasped as a Jedi immediately walked up to him and proceeded to lead him to a room. This was probably one of the least expected things he thought was going to happen as soon as he walked into the door. The young Zabrak followed the Jedi, tending to not look down at where he was walking and accidentally kick chairs or things laying on the ground. His eyes watered but he continued to stare at the Jedi, trying to find out the special quality about them.

When they had stopped in the room he was glad to not be moving anymore. Jead gasped again when he saw the room as it was close to the most expensive thing he had seen. He shook his head and sat down across from the Jedi on the tile. "Thats how you become a Jedi? Wow, I didn't know all you had to do was walk through the door." The boy had no idea he was being blunt as everything he said he meant. "Well if I'm going to be a Jedi I guess the reason is because I want something to do in the galaxy. I don't really have anything else to do." Jead smiled at the Jedi, and began to wait for his response.

OOC: sorry for the wait I had to write a paper for my class >.<

((OOC:It's all right, that happens))

Maotr looked thoughtful.
"Hmm. Interesting answer," he said, with a smile at his apprentice's innocence.
"However, before we continue, Jead, I must tell you something. Being a Jedi is not always easy. The fact that you've made it here shows you have potential, but it takes a large amount of dedication to become a full fledged Jedi. It is not worth the effort simply for 'something to do'. Keep this in mind."
Maotr sat silent for a moment, then asked,
"What do you know of the Jedi code?"

Jead momentarily stopped smiling. A confused expression crossed his face before his smile returned. "I have no idea what you are talking about. You guys have a code? Is it like rules?" He knew rules really well. Slowly a thought came to his head and he stopped smiling again. "Oh no! I forgot to tell you guys. I'm a freed slave, I have no knowledge of really anything in the galaxy." Jead smiled again and continued talking. "Are you gonna teach me about this code? Does it have something to do with everyone calling Jedi smart? The slave owners constantly said that you guys were know it alls." Jead leaned forward, listening intently to what would be said next.

Maotr laughed. "The Jedi code is a set of tenets that the Jedi follow. It is our way of life. The code is simple but important. It is as follows: Emotion, yet peace. Ignorance, yet knowledge. Passion, yet serenity. Chaos, yet harmony. Death, yet the Force." He was about to ask his apprentice what those words meant to him, but he realized Jead was perhaps a bit young to give a deep answer. He decided to ask it, but slightly change the question. "What do you think about this code?"

A serious moment drew Jead's smile away again. The Code seemed slightly confusing to Jead. "That.....doesn't seem like rules. It seems like....I don't know. There doesn't to be a noticeable unallowed thing in them." Jead lowered his head as he tried to wrap his mind around these rules. It was hard for him to not think he couldn't do something. "There has to be something for the Jedi, that we absolutely can't do?" The question was a hope for something comfortable to Jead. If there was something, then mabe he could try and relate it to his past life.

Maotr thought for a moment. He had never taught the code this way before. After a few minutes of consideration, he spoke. "Well, think of it this way. There is emotion, yet peace. We control our emotions, and we do not allow them to control us. We search for inner peace and we quest for outer peace. Emotion should not cloud the judgement of a Jedi. There is ignorance, yet knowledge. The Jedi do not know everything, so there are naturally some things we are ignorant of, but we highly value knowledge. There is passion, yet serenity. This one is important. Our control of passion is one of the things that separate us from the Dark Jedi of the Bogan. We seek serenity, to control our passion, so that we may make decisions with our heart, but also our mind. This is the wisest way to resolve a crisis, using both heart and mind. Passion can drive one forward, but never let it overtake you. There is Chaos, yet Harmony. The universe is filled with chaos, but the Jedi seek to be a beacon of Harmony. In order to be in tune with the force, we must be in harmony with it. And finally, the last tenet: There is death, yet the Force. This tenet is harder to understand, and even Jedi Masters cannot comprehend all of its mysteries. Death is a natural part of life, and in dying, we become a part of the Force, being one with its energy." Maotr hoped this explanation would give his apprentice a small idea, but he realized that even to trained Jedi, the code could be interpreted many ways, and it was sometimes difficult to understand. But Jead was young, and all that Maotr hoped to do was to give him a basic understanding of what he would be required to follow throughout his life, before they began training.

((sorry for the long post))
