"North Korea is believed to be working on the development of a long-range missile capable of reaching the west coast of the US mainland. "

Interesting :CRawr

Holy crap. They put a satellite into space? That's fewer launches than either the U.S., Chinese, or U.S.S.R. to accomplish, fascinating.

Other than that... not real worried.

I find it amusing that people are more concerned about long range missiles which can easily be defeated by the AEGIS cruisers off the coast if we had the desire to, rather than the fact they just put a satellite in space (and the fun they can have with our satellites, like GPS and communications junk)

Frankly, I think they could do more damage to the US military by eliminating the GPS constellation than they could by delivering nukes, and free from certain nuclear retaliation. But hey, let's go for irrational sensationalism concerning M.A.D. reminiscent concepts, and not the real threat.

Do we have AEGIS cruisers here n Oki? Nope. We have some stuff that I, as a civilian, know about but aren't allowed to talk about. Let's just say while they'll probably do the trick, I don't feel any safer

I'm living in China at the moment. High five for crazy neighbors.

Plus all of the stuff manufactured here is low-quality.

AEGIS cruisers are only effective at intercepting missiles in the launch phase. They'd be entirely pointless in the flight or terminal phases. There are other systems designed for that. I'm unsure if we've deployed kickass systems like skyguard yet in Okinawa, and wouldn't ask you to do anything like violate OPSEC or anything, but yeah. While it's obviously not going to make you feel better, N Korea nuking Okinawa is the least of the U.S.'s worries. I'd be much, much more uncomfortable in the N. Koreans start suicide ramming rinky-dink satellites into every communications satellite in the sky, shutting down global communications and turning the global economy upside down for shits and giggles. Firstly, its safer for N Korea to do this, since we won't nuke them for it, and second they get more bang for the buck. Or win for the won, as the N Koreans might say.

I think what the big question here is, what does this satellite do? Does it blink pretty lights?

It's not that it does something cool, it's that it - to me - represents a more significant threat to the planet than some nukes do. The North Koreans understand MAD just as well as we do, they'd need vast resources to be able to dent humanity, much less the U.S., especially taking into consideration the tools the U.S. can use to defeat those missiles. Not to mention that the use of said weapons would result in their own annihilation.

On the other hand, they can use satellites to destroy, damage, etc. U.S. satellites while blaming their own technological inferiority as the reason it happened. "Oh, sorry we destroyed that MILSTAR, it was an accident, we don't have experience with this satellite stuff"

Homefront here we come. :CAbove

Will the following war be as big a waste of time as the game itself was? Or will it flop harder? I don't know if that's possible, unless we're going for a Duke Nukem Forever sort of thing.

What's a Duke Nukem Forever? I've never heard of it.

Anyway, there are already concerns whether or not the satellite is floating in orbit right.

Better watch out, MILSTAR. It's coming for you.
