Earlier tonight, CENCOM, by order of the Supreme Chancellor, deployed an additional fleet and an unspecified number of ground forces to Coruscant in an effort to bolster security. With hundreds of Naval vessels and untold numbers of Republic Troopers keeping a watchful eye on Coruscant's traffic and ports, both in space stations and on the ground, it seems that CENCOM is trying its best to catch any trouble before it can set foot on the Republic's capital.

In addition to the troop deployments, the Chancellor also ordered that security be tightened all across Republic Space. Customs restrictions have grown far heavier, with every shipment being subjected to bomb, chemical, and biological material-sniffing robots and sensors before being allowed out of a starport - this is especially true on Coruscant, where independently owned starports have been placed under constant surveillance by battle droids and their organic commanders. Passports, once frequently forgotten as a passport could easily be found in any one of the Republic's many central databases, are being re-issued as identity cards.

Virtually impossible to replicate and sealed around a substance that will ignite the card and destroy it should any alteration be made that passes through the outer laminated layer, these multi-layered, RFID-embedded photographic and fingerprint ID cards are being issued to all Republic Citizens who expect to travel within a month of receiving the card - five weeks after being issued, the card's RFID tag is magnetized and disabled, rendering the card useless and forcing the holder to file for a new one -provided at no cost- from CENCOM, as the passports are being regulated by Central Command.

Note that former Hutt citizens, Hutts, and anyone hailing from an outer rim world may be considered 'ineligible' to receive a passport from CENCOM, according to an official from within Central Command. Apparently, CENCOM also reserves the right to conduct an in-depth investigation into any applicant's background, and CENCOM reserves the right to refuse a passport/ID card for any reason. Also, being caught with a forged ID card is considered an "act of espionage" and it will be "punished harshly" - meaning that if you're caught traveling without an ID card, you might find yourself facing fines and/or jail time.

So far, many 'frequent fliers' are grumbling about having to carry around their new ID cards, but military analysts and police forces everywhere are breathing easier. As one Coruscanti police officer stated, "The new CENCOM ID cards will make it vastly easier to catch the bad guys before they can do any damage. If they don't have a card and they're from off world, the police or RSF can detain them - it's as simple as that. We don't even need a reason, we just ask to see an off-worlder's ID card. If they don't have it, boom, cuffs on and they're off to the lockup. If they forgot it, it's not a problem - we can contact CENCOM and have a copy of their ID card sent via express to the station, and the person's out inside two hours. Doubt we'll have a problem like that though, as long as everyone keeps their ID cards in their wallets."

CENCOM also hinted at the possibility of randomly stopping freighters and other civilian craft inbound to Coruscant, but would not comment further about the possibility of random searches. tl;dr version:

-Republic bolstering security around their core worlds, especially Coruscant.

-CENCOM issuing ID cards to Republic citizens who expect to travel. These ID cards are next to impossible to replicate without access to CENCOM's card-printing equipment and computers.

Note that this is in [delayed] reaction to the attack on the Senate district.
