Well. This has been a long time coming, quite honestly. I'm not sure how long, but I've known this was going to happen eventually, and it looks like it has finally come. I'm leaving the site. Maybe temporarily, maybe permanently, depends on where you all, and I, take things.

First off, I'd like to apologize to all the people whose threads I have dropped. I simply have no desire to complete them, no desire to continue telling the stories that I was making with you. For that, I apologize.

Now, for the reasons I'm leaving.

I no longer feel welcome on the site.

It's no secret that I don't agree with the current direction of the site. I'm sure a lot of you have heard me annoyingly rant or complain about how the site doesn't let me do X or Y, no matter how true it may or may not be. Due to my rants, and due to arguments caused by my disagreements, I have been told to "suck it up or leave" in much nicer terms countless times.

Beyond this, everyone I heavily enjoyed RPing with have been banned, or have left the site. Now, you may say "But Jab, buddy old pal old friend, just find new people!" Not that simple for me. I'm an introverted, anxiety ridden piece of shit that doesn't get along with people under normal circumstances. If I'm friends with someone, it's likely because I was introduced by someone who went out of their way to get to know me.

Another thing is that I hate the PvP orientation of the current timeline. I've seen countless instances of people bickering, yelling, and insulting one another because people are so obsessed with winning that they toss aside basic human decency. That's not something I want to be a part of, and has honestly made me not want to interact with certain users after seeing how they act in such situations.

To be quite honest, and I'm going out on a limb here, but a major reason I'm leaving is because of the banning of the user Megilwen.

I'm not going to go into details, and believe me, I know quite a lot, but I personally believe the ban was unfounded, based on personal bias, and shows a childish, unwelcoming side of the Admin team.

I've tried to change things, or at least explain my views. It ended poorly in every attempt, including once where I was called socially inept. I no longer feel welcome, so I won't overstay what little hospitality is left.​

I've never, ever told a Role Player to piss off if they didn't like how things were done. That just smacks of tawdry ego. This is a community, a self-correcting community at that, and nothing else.

If you want change, you have to be that change.

At no point did I claim that I was right and they were wrong. I simply don't like how the site currently functions. Attempting to change it often ended with insults, threats, and warnings from my experience.

I have almost no one I enjoy writing with consistently anymore, very few ideas I can employ, and I seriously don't see much form of community here. What little I see is often torn apart the moment their actions butt heads.

I don't feel welcome, and see no positivity to staying.

As a mod part of my job is to try to increase member retention, and I have to say I'm sad to see you go. I enjoyed our time together here.

On the note of your friends here being banned, I'm sorry that it is driving you away. I certainly don't believe that you should let their rule breaking and subsequent punishment ruin the site for you, but if you feel you can't enjoy the site without them then I can't make you stay. Users who have been banned have been so for a reason, and I would be happy to try to introduce you to some new friends on here!

I can say that there have been a lot of non-pvp stories cooking up lately, and we would love to have you stay.

Hey there. To be honest if I felt the way you seem to feel, I would have left quite a while ago. I understand where you're coming from and I personally never stay on boards which I don't really enjoy or where I don't feel welcome. After all the writing and community is supposed to be fun right? And you should have a place were you do feel comfortable and welcome. :)

With that as your exiting move I can say, at least in my book, you won't be missed.

Don't be naive, if you want to leave because you are unhappy, fine do what you want but attempting to stir the pot just because you are on your way out? That's a new form of low.

With that as your exiting move I can say, at least in my book, you won't be missed.

But you are taking the side of an abuser like Lucy, who harassed multiple members of this community. She is NOT the victim, she is toxic, she is manipulative, and she verbally abuses anyone who does ANYTHING she doesn't like or agree with. If you don't see a pattern in her behaviors then you must be blind but I forgot you like to white knight and take the side of the underdog even if they are wrong. Get over yourself, she deserved it just like all the other cases.

Dragging up that is just another way of being toxic and for someone who doesn't want conflict you like to start it. Again you won't be missed, peace.

First off I'm not gonna try to convince you to stay, or at least not purposefully. It's clear that you've put a lot of thought into the decision to go and I don't feel right about potentially undermining that fact.

What I do wanna say, however, is that I really am sad to see you go. I'm still new and all but from what I saw of your ideas and your writing it all looked seriously appealing. So I wanna say that I hope you do find a forum, be it the next one you go to or one you find in a whiles time or even here potentially if you decide to return, that you enjoy and feel welcome in and where you can find people you enjoy writing with easily. And seriously, I know I sound like an idiot for saying it, but I also hope that you at some point can find a way past the introverted nature that I know I also struggle with. Coming from someone who thinks that he's getting better at it: it's worth it, trust me :)

To Apollyon: As much as you may enjoy Jab's departure, as far as I'm aware it's not good form anywhere to do what you're doing now. I'd expect people that have managed to become staff on any forum to be held to a better standard than that.

Again, I'm sorry you feel your friend's were unjustly banned. As a member of staff, and as a general person, I find discussing the nature of bans in a public setting like this unbecoming, but I can tell you that if a member has been banned, they have v violated site rules. When I was banned I violated site rules. You agree to play by the rules when you sign up for SWRP, and it is really easy not to get banned.

If you have questions about why your friends were banned I'd be happy to discuss what I know concerning it with you if it would ease concerns that the bans were unjust.

Again, I hate to see you go but I can't make you stay.

I don't agree with what is happening here. This isn't right, not in the least. Neither mods in this thread are performing any member rentention actions, and another member is outright attacking. There is no compromise, no attempt at outreach, and I am disappointed. Extremely disappointed.

I've never met you but I can understand your need to move on. All good writers in time need to go on a walk about at some pointe. I spent four years on my previous site, and I disagreed with some of the actions beomg accepted; but unlike you I kept my mouth shut; something I respect you for not doing.

As for pvp, when I first stared writing I was awful....but I met a really good friend who took me under her wing and made me an excellent pvper. But like you mentioned, writers only care about winning and forget to see how such an excellent story can be written. I dealt with whiners, moaners, and complainers during thread events, and because I was good friends with the Admins of the site; the word favouritism was branded to me. They never granted me favours, but treated me respectively; however, I couldn't deal with the fallout from pvping. So I stopped doing it, and probably won't do it here unless spurred into action.

I guess what I'm trying to incorporate to you is this: Follow your heart, listen to your mind, breathe, and when you are ready.....you owe me a thread (LOL).

Seriously, walking away from something you are passionate about is hard. I walked away from my family and friends and the only site I ever loved. Now I'm here to be just me....have fun....and steal @Padmé wine. And remember, forums such as these are meant to relieve you of stress....not add to it. Slan mo chara.
