Strength: 6/10: Not the strongest human to be seen, Gunnar takes pride in knowing he can hold his own in a fight. He is in the prime of his youth and he knows it, keeping himself in this state through daily exercise.

Strengths and weaknesses: Trained to be the best, Gunnar carries himself with a sense of honor for the achievements of the past Imperial Military. This leads him to attempt to excel in every role and assignment given to him regardless of what it may be. This is also a negative trait as he puts his life second. Completely willing and prepared to rush into enemy fire to save a fallen teammate. He's at his strongest when he's setting or disarming an explosive device. What most would consider nerve wracking, Gunnar considers almost therapeutic as he works.

Personality: Dedicated, fearless and professional are just a few words to describe Gunnar Varan. He's idealistic in nature which gave him reason to join the Imperial military in hopes that he can make the galaxy a better place. A firm believer that the enemies of the Imperium are bringing the galaxy down and that it's his job to wipe them out. A friendly individual, he makes it a point to get to know every member of his unit as soon as he arrives, even if they look at his as little more than the FNG. He prefers to speak through his actions instead of through hollow words like others would.

Biography: Born on an Imperial friendly planet, Gunnar grew up being told that the Empire would rise to it's former power again. His father had died three months before he was born while his mother wasn't far behind, dying in childbirth. Gunnar was put into the local orphanage where he was taught essential everyday skills such as reading and writing. The years went by while Gunnar worked around the orphanage, helping however he could whether by helping the younger children with their teachings or out in the courtyard. He knew nothing of his parents as the orphanage knew little themselves other than his mother died while giving birth to him. Just after he turned 8 years old, the words of the planet's residents came true when the New Sith Imperium declared war upon the Galactic Alliance. Being too young to do anything about it, he waited. Finally word came that the war was over. The Sith and Imperial forces victorious.

Gunnar didn't know whether to be ecstatic or upset at such a young age and avoided the subject as much as possible. As he aged, he learned more about the stance of the Imperium and their actions against their slowly emerging enemies. Though he also saw the way the planet he lived on benefited because of the Imperial traffic. Soldiers and Sailors on shore leave spent their money in the markets which helped the business owners which in turned helped the economy of his town. Gunnar made a decision that the Imperium was there to help them and the galaxy as a whole. Meanwhile 14 year old Gunnar had started helping around the orphanage in a more advanced capacity, helping with the electrical wiring of the building and even basic construction when they rebuilt it wing by wing. The one thing he loved most about the reconstruction was the demolition of the old building. The maintenance man, Trask had been a soldier in his youth and was trained to make and set explosives. To avoid extravagant material costs, the oprhanage had Trask make up the explosives for the demolition. Much to Gunnar's delight he was asked to help even going to far as being taught how to set the detonator. Neither Trask or himself could explain it, though Gunnar seemed to be a natural with the explosive compounds. Gunnar begged to be taught more but was turned down because of his age.

Years went by and finally Gunnar was 17 and close enough to the age of enlistment with the Imperial Army. He went straight to the nearest Imperial recruitment center and after lying about his age which was easy thanks to the lack of records on the boy, signed the papers. When questioned about what occupation he wanted, he answered that he wanted to be put into demolitions without a second thought. Signature on the dotted line and Gunnar was whisked away to the nearest training station to begin his basic training. The training was relatively uneventful as he learned the basics behind firing his weapon, field survival and even Mandalorian tactics. Finally his basic training complete, he was sent to the Imperial School for Demolitions, which is where his life would be changed forever. Much like 3 years beforehand when given an explosive training device with a timer, he worked with a methodical calmness that both impressed and confused the instructors. He was put under investigation multiple times on anonymous tips from the other trainees that he had to be using some sort of narcotic to achieve the state he demonstrated when disarming a timed device. Even during the stress tests with blasters, yelled orders, and other explosions going on around them the boy seemed completely calm.

The time finally came for his graduation and he was given orders the following day. The 173rd Ordinance Battalion was the word. Stationed near the borders of Imperium space and ordered to assist Imperial forces on quelling minor uprisings and holdout elements of the discovered Rebel fighters. Being an EOD operator meant the 173rd was only ever in one place together before a deployment and during certain events. Any other time, they were divvied out to whatever Imperial unit needed some EOD techs. Gunnar was assigned to the 435th Light Armored Combat Team to disarm IED's and mines set by enemy fighters. They were told the operation to put down the insurrection would be two weeks at the most. 4 months later the combat was still in full swing. The enemy forces launching guerrilla warfare tactics against the lightly armored vehicles in pursuit. The soldiers in the regiment wonder aloud why the Imperial Command hadn't seen fit to call in the STC to deal with the insurrection. "Already committed to other theaters" was the only reply the regiment commander ever received in regards to requests for STC personnel.

Gunnar's 19th birthday came and went without much fuss other than a hastily prepared cake made from procured ingredients which was split between the crew of the vehicle Gunnar was attached to. The following day they were given orders to take three vehicles and assault an area sure to be harboring insurrection fighters. The transit was proving to be a little too quiet until an IED took out the lead vehicle and the column commander who insisted on riding in the first vehicle. Anti-tank rounds flew past the vehicles as the crew dismounted and began a counterattack under covering fire from the main weapons systems of the Imperial Troop Carriers laser cannon. It was a cluster of houses that the AT rounds had emerged from and so the vehicle crews divided into fireteams and began their assault of the position.

It was all textbook maneuvers and yet the call for a medic still came as Gunnar's friend Rand went down under a hail of repeating blaster fire. Rand's fireteam held position to provide cover while the medic did their job. That left Gunnar and the team he was attached to hanging out in the breeze as they rushed the building, kicking through the door and gunning down anyone on the other side. An unknown voice entered the comm chatter at that point stating they were Stormtroopers attached to the 66th Regiment and they were going to assist. Within minutes, four heavily armored and equipped Assault Troopers rushed through the hail of blasterfire to join the fireteam of the 435th in it's counter attack. Turned out the complex of houses was bigger than they had anticipated as they spent well over an hour and a half clearing the rooms before moving on to another house. They were joined half an hour before by another column of the 435th who were giving a platoon of infantryman from the 759th Infantry a lift back to the FOB. They figured they had enough ammo and hadn't seen enough action on their patrol that they joined the Assault Troopers and Gunnar's team in clearing the area.

Finally after what seemed like days, they hit the last house. Inside were two insurrectionist who proved easily dispatched until Gunnar saw what he knew could only be a large yield explosive device. Given the size and components, Gunnar could only guess that it was a 2 megaton yield which would still destroy 250 Kilometers. There was no way the teams could load up and clear the blast in the 45 seconds they had and so the EOD Tech of the 173rd set to work. The members of the regular army showed panic which was quickly shut down by the Stormtroopers as they cleared the regular troops out of the house and flanked Gunnar in a defensive position and pulled security as he worked. Calmly and methodically, the young man traced wires and connections as he calculated what each and every bit of plastic covered wire connected to. The timer continued it's countdown hitting the 10 second mark. Grabbing the oddly colored beige wire with a gloved hand, he reached in with the wire cutters and snipped the connection. The Stormtroopers gave a sigh of relief long before Gunnar as he snipped a few more wires now that the device was safe and began rewiring them to ensure the device would detonate if the insurrectionists attempted to rearm it.

The situation over and the Imperial forces back on the way to complete their assigned tasks, Gunnar remained on patrol with his armored column for another week disarming IED's and anti-tank devices before returning to the FOB for some hot chow and a shower. Though before he could do anything, he was ordered to report to his CO. Upon arriving at the command center, he was informed that he received a letter of recommendation for admission into the STC. He accepted immediately and was whisked away to the STC training facilities. He began the training as a recruit being given specialized training in demolitions and heavy weapons on the path to becoming a Strike Trooper.
