DESCRIPTION
The H-SL5 Janus is a light, armored landspeeder produced by Halworth Mechanized Concepts, a military vehicle manufacturer specializing in high-mobility weapon systems and reconnaissance platforms. One of its premier offerings, the Janus is fairly novel in concept.

The Janus is primarily designed to act as a lightly armored scout vehicle, meant to drive around until it encounters the enemy, take some quick sensor snapshots and then retreat to safety. What sets the Janus apart from many other vehicles of its type is its twin cockpits, each facing in a different direction, making it difficult to tell one end of the vehicle from the other. The idea behind this is to facilitate speedy withdrawals; the Janus can go just as fast in reverse as it can forward, and being able to be driven from either end means that it takes no extra effort to back out of danger at full speed. This concept has proven handy for a number of the Janus' operators; in addition to reconnaissance, it has proven to be an extremely effective hit-and-run attack craft, and can operate in areas where other vehicles would not easily be able to maneuver.

The Janus is intended to be operated by a crew of 2, with 1 driver piloting the vehicle while the other handles sensors and comms, switching roles as necessary. Each driver has control of a turret-mounted medium blaster cannon on the top of the vehicle, which may be used independently, or both may be slaved to a single set of controls to double the firepower of 1 crewbeing. Sensors, meanwhile, include a radar scanner, dual heat and motion sensors, dual rangefinders and dual holocameras, 1 each pointing in both directions. Each cockpit has its own targeting computer readout. Communication is provided by an encrypted comlink system, which also supports a datalink function for transmitting sensor data back to base.

For battlefield survival, the Janus mainly relies on its high mobility; though its armor can take hits from most hand blasters, it is not meant to repel anything heavier, and its cockpits - though they have armored windscreens - are essentially open. Its guns are also not powerful enough to take down a proper tank or other well armored vehicle, although they are extremely effective against infantry and other soft targets.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Though not large or heavily armored, the H-SL5 Janus is a military vehicle, and it is not considered lawful to own one on most civilized planets.

INTENT
To create a hit-and-run recon and light attack vehicle. This was heavily inspired by British armored scout cars of the WWII era, some of of which actually had a full set of reverse gears and an auxiliary driver's seat facing backwards for quick withdrawals.

ADVANCED TECH
Yes. Being a military attack and reconnaissance vehicle, albeit a small one, the H-SL5 Janus is not trivial to acquire. Doing so would require a plot.
