Peace is a lie. A myth. Something only ever seen in the euphoric dreams of an innie so high that he’s up with Admiral Cole and Gage Yevgenny, God rest their souls. Forgive my skepticism, but peace is nothing I’ve ever seen. Not two years after the War ended, we’re back to infighting again. And our boys are paying for it.

I’ve been in the Corps since the minimum enlistment date, age 16. Right out of secondary school. I was born here, on Earth, I grew up on Earth, and I nearly died there. Defended her to the last man, just about. That was, until the Chief showed up. Now, before I met the Chief, like all ODSTs, I was resentful of the SPARTANs. But the Chief saved our asses on the Tsavo Highway. While, yes, I’m an ODST, I had been caught on the ground and joined up with Commander Keyes’ Militia. Our convoy had been hit, and lo and behold…here comes the chief out of the dust. The second coming of feckin’ Jesus. We just about lost the entire squad, and I was ready to give mine up for the last of the men…and he saved me.

Before that, I’d been with the 7th Shock Troops. Been dropped all over Colonial Space and a few places outside. I…lost my fiancée on a drop. She was part of the Force Recon team that had inserted solo a week before and scouted out the place. We were sent in to pull ‘em out. She didn’t make it…not many did. You might’ve heard of Last Stand at Einstein square? Jake Pierce, the main character? What the bastards don’t tell you is that the real Jake Pierce is James Perez. And Sera Manning is actually Sarah Hawkins.

And life goes on. Since 2546, I’ve moved on…never been with a woman since though. Plenty of promotions on my arm. Just sewed on Master Gunnery Sergeant before I got this assignment. We’re under Lieutenant Davidson, a good CO. Navy, sure. But then again, a lot of us are. Some Army dogs too, and even a few Air Force jerk offs. But now they’re my brothers. And we’re brothers to the end.

In school he received top marks, and was offered a scholarship to an earth based University. He turned this down, and instead joined the Marines to defend Humanity against the Covenant. Once again scoring top marks, James was assigned to the ODSTs and was put through intense training, where he emerged as a team leader. His service record includes the Earth defense campaign, and several classified missions into Covenant space.

But, come on, mate, look at the service record. The words are like stars in it, little pinpricks of light coming out of the blackness that is his black ink."

Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

The cream of the crop. The best the UNSC has to offer. From Army Airborne units to Naval ONI agents, the best of the best are sent to the ODSTs. At least, that's how it used to be. Slowly becoming the soldiers of the last war, ODSTs were slowly becoming phased out for the SPARTAN IVs. Angered that their poster boys were taking a back seat, Naval Special Warfare muscled their way in on the SPARTAN IV lead operations into the galaxy. The result was that ONI allowed the 7th Shock Troop's Able Company to be assigned to the mission, which included the following personnel.​

Personality:
Huck has a sense of intuition that has complicated his career as a SPARTAN-III. Although he is loyal and obedient to orders, he often follows his intuitions and instincts which occasionally cause missions to be delayed or otherwise burdened. Normally such a thing would be considered insubordination, but according to his file, his instincts are solid, and are historically worth following because of his track record of being correct. He is mostly introversive and reclusive, although in a setting with comfortable associates he often displays a sense of humor. He is vividly sharp in wit and possesses remarkably strong observational skills. His tact is also a strong point, as it blends well with his specialty of infiltration; he often knows the most diplomatic and/or efficient way of handling a situation, combat or otherwise. He is intelligent, charismatic, and generally likeable; ONI has stated that he could be a strong leader, were it not for his tendency to follow his instincts over his orders; this caveat is reflected in his rank.

Personality:
Nikolas volunteered himself into the SPARTAN III program after his parents were lost during one of the initial naval battles with Covenant Forces. He is spurned with a deep seat hatred for the Covenant and is more concerned with killing as many as possible with no regards to his own life. With this in mind Nikolas is a SPARTAN and by that definition he is a professional soldier, never disobeying an order, never backing down, and always completing his mission objective. Nikolas also shares a unique bond with the other SPARTANs in Reaper Squad, all were trained together and have fought together, he views them as his family and would choose his own death over one of theirs any day.

A-1684B, that is what my Identification Number is, Nikolas is my name. I was born into the military world my mother and father both being UNSC Marine Grunts, both of them proud to serve their government, I would like to think they would be proud of me as well...

See I was orphaned during the initial skirmishes with the Covenant at age eight, my parents both died on a boarding party attempt lead by a SPARTAN II, she survived, no one else did though. It was in that moment I learned what true hatred was, what true pain was, what the lust for revenge was, I would do anything to kill those bastards.

An opportunity was given to me a year later, the SPARTAN III program was initialized and I volunteered. I was selected to be part of Alpha company because of my high testing scores, my physical fitness, and my burning passion to end Conventant lives.

I spent YEARS training with my squadmates, becoming the best I could be, the best we could ALL be, but training was nothing compared to the augmentations. Nothing in our language or any language can describe the pain those augmentations brought, bones growing rapidly, muscles developing past their normal limits, brain function increasing, all at once, it felt like a fire burning under my skin.

Reaper Squad and I were deployed on several missions, we not only beat the odds that seemed to stack higher and higher against us but we survived too. This made the brass pay closer attention to us and up our squads lethality status to "Highly Lethal", the second highest lethality status a SPARTAN can achieve. But the attention didn't end there, Reaper Squad was outfitted with MJOLNIR mark IV armor, a sign of the brass' faith in our squad, it was an honor.

Biography:

Born in South Detroit, Jim's parents --his mother a schoolteacher and his father a public union sanitation worker-- instilled in him an abiding faith in good deeds and hard work. Tragedy struck at age three when his father died of a heart attack, and his mother was forced to move in with his nana Regina Greene. She had to turn his back sore a few times after catching him tagging with some of the local kids on the wrong side of the tracks, but her fierce discipline as well as the love that she brought to her endeavors --including placing him in the local gospel choir-- helped to keep him on the straight and narrow.

His mother, Anita, in the meantime taught him the value of an education and with a teacher's patience helped him to overcome such obstacles as his dyskalkulia and dyslexia to graduate school on time and in the top percent of his class. Public scholarships took him far away from the cement poverty and workaday soulfulness of Detroit to Kentucky, where he completed, against all odds, a math degree.

It was around this time that the Colonial Rebels were beginning to take militant actions against UNSC installations, including in nearby Alpha Centauri. A patriot and a man who understood what good fortune he'd had in his public scholarships, Jim signed up in the UNSC. He completed a degree in engineering at Harvest College, having already nourished some doubts about fighting the insurrection; a pacifistic man with a strong sense of God's Commandment --"Thou shalt not kill; Lord ain't playing"-- he intended to cut his service short, but the Covenant's invasion of Harvest, the planet on which he had been studying, cut such plans short.

His record became storied and mythical following that strange twist of fate. From participating in black ops against high-value Covenant targets to fighting alongside the SPARTAN IIs, whom he respected but whose powers gave him pause, Jim came across luminaries of the war, including the Doctor Catherine Halsey ("Smart lady, but not all there... there, you dig?") to Lord Terence Hood to even the Master Chief ("The finest soldier I ever met, barring my Nana.")

He returned to military training and graduated with honors from Sniper School, as well as undertaking training in orbital jumps and zero-gravity combat. Further training in Close Quarters Battle, where he particularly excelled took place. His steady temperament, empathy and patience with those he later trained earned him the affectionate nickname of Doc Nice.

In particular, the Doc had a great talent for civilian pacification and rebuilding and was often sent into old Rebel strongholds to clear the way for cooperation with the UNSC. He displayed great tactical acumen and moral leadership in these situations, usually being able to save civilians and bring along the old militants along for the war against the Covenant. What failures he did have haunted him, of course, but for the most part, he took part in the war as an instructor and as a well-respected black ops operative.

His greatest student of all, of course, was Olivia Ellis, whom he eventually recommended (at her request) with no small amount of reservations for the SPARTAN IV program. Jim had always had reservations about the authoritarian aspects of the UNSC, but in particular when it came to the SPARTAN program, where he saw many, including Doctor Halsey, as playing God, the loss of his student hurt him. After years of combat and being stationed in far-flung stations and depots fighting against the Covenant and the Flood too (he was one of the survivors of the Battle of Installation 04), Jim had not grown quite estranged from his children but found that they had little in common with him, and in an irony of fate, more closely identified with his mother.

"Can't blame 'em. You love family. Doesn't always mean you like them. And I was never really there."

To make matters worse, his beloved wife had left him a widow early. And so he had been left a single parent. Which made his relationship with Olivia, or Ollie --as he and only he-- called her so very important. There was a father-daughter dynamic there and Jim was --and is-- fiercely proud of the woman who now towers over him physically and literally outranks him.

Now about to reach the eighth decade of his life, Jim has aged uncannily well, perhaps due to exposure to radiation, perhaps due to his participation in some God-Knows-What program. Jim has refused to discuss that possibility though he is aware he would be a hypocrite for doing so, he recently turned down a promotion and a cachet and has instead been reassigned, due to his decades of experience and well-known effectiveness to the Halo Taskforce, where he will report directly to --and work closely with-- his former protege.

Personality: Confident. Extremely confident. Cool under pressure and a highly relatable officer. Mainly because she never stopped seeing herself as a soldier.

History: Civilian life wasn't spectacular. Grew up on a farm on Earth and to pay her way through college she joined the marines. Immediately fell in love with the lifestyle and made a career out of it. Was pretty young by the time the Covenant war came to Earth. Exemplary combat record, tactical mind and and recommendations from several NCO's and other officers allowed her to be int he first wave of Spartan IV augmentation.

Even quicker was her ascendance to the rank of Commander and after she was given her own team of Spartans records become sparse.

- When he wasn't devoting himself to the Covenant religion he turned his mind to vengeance. When the fight against the Prophets and Brutes no longer yielded any pleasure he sought to try and become more of a liaison between the Covenant and UNSC. Natural choice for this mission.

History: A thorn in our side for much of the war. Numerous engagements where he was in command had soldiers walk away with whispers of his terror. He always made it a point to be in the vanguard of every battle he over saw. When the call came from his superiors to rise up against the Brutes he, with all pleasure, slayed the Brute Commander he was stationed under. He was always willing to volunteer for missions with human contact and fought hellish battles in the Battle for Earth with a unit of Human and Covenant survivors.
