Harath H'Skirr
NAME: Harath H'skirr
ALIAS: Jackal
FACTION: Republic
RANK: Senator - Celanon

SEX: Male
AGE: 39
SPECIES: Nalroni
HOMEPLANET: Celanon
HEIGHT: 1.8 meters
WEIGHT: ~57 kilos
HAIR: Golden (Furred)
EYES: Pale Blue
FORCE SENSITIVE: Yes - Untrained

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”
- Senator H'skirr, addressing the Senate

Personality

A friendly and charming facade is presented to the Galaxy. The jackal faced man has a quick smile, mesmerizing blue eyes, and a quick mind, assets well used when dealing with the oddly divided castes of his species. One must balance the Socialist order of the working class with the Capitalist guilds that make up the ruling Merchant Council. To the former, he was uplifted as a kind and caring champion of the people, one who would ensure that they all lived their comfortable lifestyles, so long as they quietly did their jobs and voiced no complaint. To the latter, he presented himself as humble man, willing to sacrifice his own personal gain to help those in need.

But beneath all of this lies a distant man, driven by the specters of his past. Most see only what they expect of the Celanites: charismatic, eager to please, and obsessed with wealth. However, this couldn't be farther from the truth. Harath is a coldly aggressive militant, his Nalroni mindset twisted by a few close encounters with death, the near collapse of his Guild, and the Senate's previous refusal to gather the military assets that might protect his people.

Skills and Abilities

Harath's lithe body has been honed by decades of sword play and rigorous exercise regimes, and, as such, he's in excellent physical shape, despite his genetic predisposition to poor cardiovascular health.

Though mentally astute and perceptive, he tends to think logically and methodically, a trait that, while beneficial during the planning phase of any endeavor, doesn't serve so well in open debate or during the heat of battle. Nonetheless, he certainly has a better mind for the latter than the majority of his species.

His true strengths lie in his social abilities, where his charismatic nature, combined with a long practice of manipulating the Merchant Guilds of Celanon, have made the sly jackal's words catch more than a few people's fancies. Whether proposing motions to government officials, meeting with the abundant smuggler factions that fester in the underbelly of Celanon, or convincing his children to share their expensive toys, his words are slow to come, but when spoken, leave an imprint upon the minds he influences

Biography

Located on the Crux of the Lydian Way and the Celadon Spur, the single system held by the Nalroni has ever been prosperous ones, its wealth held comparable to the Banking Clans. The Nalroni themselves are a generally amicable species, their once vaunted predatory instincts turned towards more civilized practices such as sniffing out the emotions and motivations of their pr- er, customers. The population is arranged with the vast majority of the Nalroni benefitting from a Socialist establishment, where the Merchant Elites bring unimaginable wealth to their worlds, and distribute it equally among their beneficiaries, keeping the bulk of the goods for themselves.

It was among the those Merchant Elites that Harath was born, first among two boys, destined to be the scion of the Guild-Clan H’skirr, a moderately wealthy faction within Celanon City. From the very beginning he was groomed for leadership of both Guild and Clan, a separate and important distinction among the Nalroni. You see, first comes the Clan, then the Guild, and finally yourself. That lesson was drilled over and over again into the young boy’s mind until it became an essential part of his belief system. Some might have even called it religious in nature. This fervor inspired all of his efforts, noble etiquette, the art of fencing, military tactics, and bartering to name a few, as he bettered himself for the good of his family. He strived to be able to support those hard working members of the lower caste that held the Guild upon their back, but unfortunately his story was doomed to be one of hardships. There was no meteoric climb for this man, no gilded path to power.

Events beyond his control conspired against him. His father took ill and passed away before Harath was old enough to take control of the Guild, and his mother, a kind hearted, albeit distracted woman, fell beneath the influence of her sister, a deeply jealous individual. Under her power, the Guild split into dozens of smaller factions, leaving the prospective Guild Boss with nothing. It was during this time period that Harath’s concept of family was slowly corroded away, leaving the fervor, without the bonds of kin and Guild to balance it. With that energy, slowly kindled into a burning rage, he redoubled his learning efforts, moving into law as well, while his brother left the Guild and Clan altogether. It took him five long years of hard work for him to slowly gather the loyalty of his old retainers, uniting the fractured remnants, and then an additional year to build a legal case against his Aunt, for frittering away wealth that wasn’t hers to spend. The Aunt and her sycophants, her lackeys, were exiled, while his mother was sent to one of the outer estates, to live her life in wealth and peace, away from the system that she was admittedly horrible at playing.

So the Clan stood united once more, and so the Guild found wealth once more, and in this time of economic peace and prosperity, Harath even found love burning in his chest, rekindling the old desire for the closeness of family. Over the next decade he fathered three children with his former fencing instructor, and he truly did have a time of happiness. It wasn’t to last. One bright and delightfully cool night, his brother returned to the family estates begging to be let in, and for Harath to conceal him unspecified enemies. Harath consented, Ra’jhan was family after all. His enemy? The Celanon Organized Protectorate (COP). It turns out that his brother had started his own Guild, of sorts. More precisely, a tight knit group of smugglers, black market dealers, and information brokers based from Feriae Junction. With Harath’s assistance, the smuggling ring was discreetly moved to the underworld of Celanon City, and Ra’jhan’s records expunged from the COP records. In return, Harath minted both sides of his coin. With these new additions, his assets stretched far and wide, and he quickly took advantage of this. The ascendant Guild Leader cleared a seat in the ruling Merchant Council when the current seat’s dirty laundry came to light, (due to Harath’s efforts) and quickly secured the position for himself. Not many could argue with the appointment considering his solid reputation, wealth, and the fact that it was a reward for unveiling corruption in the Council.

With the Sith threat rising, and the subsequent formation of the Border Alliance, the Merchant Council agreed that they needed a representative that would represent the interests of their people. Someone who deviated from the Nalroni norm of pacifistic peace seekers, and who was fully knowledgeable on military tactics. Someone who could talk among the greats of the council about the military situation of their world, situated so dangerously close to the border, and make sure that they wouldn’t be left out to dry. If the Republic would not protect their borders, the Nalroni would at least ensure that no one could blame them when the walls came tumbling down.

Politics

Military

The Nalroni have long been a peaceful race, their predatory instincts turned away from the waging of war and instead honed on the edges of silvered tongues. However, only a fool would not see how precarious Celanon's position, on the outer edge of Republic space, is. As such, Harath strongly supports the formation of a Grand Army, and furthermore, has an absolute belief that each system should be allowed their own standing army, especially since the Republic has shown their reluctance to defend their own people.

Jedi
Witches, and a danger to the stability of the galaxy, the whole lot of them. No one single being should be allowed to hold that much power, and the recent events on Tython have only cemented his views. That said, it's impossible to prevent these beings from coming into existence, but, at the very least, such religious orders should be heavily regulated, to ensure that their power is not misused.

Sith
This particular group of witches highlights every single one of Harath's concerns with the Jedi. They are a force that cannot be controlled, a polarizing engine of devastation willing to destroy what it must to attain its goals. The only difference between them and the Jedi is that the Jedi haven't yet wholly turned on their handlers, but it's already begun.

Other
Harath, born and raised in a Oligarchic Society, and now part of that ruling class himself, firmly believes that it's the responsibility of the ruling class to care for its citizens, free of outside influence. As such, he advocates for looser restrictions on members of the Republic. In addition, considering the Celanon's reliance on trade, he is strongly against any movements that might adversely affect the flow of goods in the galaxy. In his time among the Merchant Council, the majority of his efforts have gone to Social Reform, ensuring that the working class has access to every benefit that they deserve.

IMMA LOOK IF I WANT TO!

Just something quick to mention, WIP profiles usually aren't allowed here. You can copy this into the worshop though, or have @Padmé move it.

Only thing that makes this a WIP is the title. As far as I'm concerned, the profile meets the forum minimum requirements, but moved nonetheless.

I mean, there is no bio. And when I posted the suggestion, there was no personality either.

Yeah, I think someone hadn't quite woken up yet. She might not have noticed the fact that the boxes were just filled with Latin filler. In any case, it's all coming along slowly. Creating characters always takes awhile for me. Can't do anything until it just... feels right. Would you mind critiquing what little is there at the moment?

Latin and Gibberish was my major, don't you know?
Quite clearly Padmé supports my assertion that my Latin Gibberish is both impeccable and breathtaking in scope. Not only is this /the/ best written profile on the forum, but it serves as an ample substitute for tea time. Refreshing, relaxing, and delicious.

On the profile itself, I think it's shaping up quite well! I like the contrast you're adding throughout, and i'm interested to see where you take the Bio.

Thank you for submitting an application to the Galactic Senate!

Overall I think this is a very well done character. You can tell you have spent a lot of time in it's formation, and I am particularly impressed with the incorporation of the events that have developed in this timeline. I would recommend looking over some of the more recent developments within the Republic, as shown in the republic forum detailing the formation of the Grand Army of the Republic, and the bill's that have thus far passed in the senate.

But that is a very minor recommendation. Well done overall! And kudos to responding well to criticism in this thread. @Outlander can be tough sometimes. :P
